Defend Earth: Xenos Survivors

There is an extreme lack of variety in weapons/abilities compared to most games of this genre which makes the gameplay too repetitive. Combined with how lackluster the upgrades are, it makes the progression system too tedious and boring. At least it's really cheap.

Pretty barebones Vampire Survivors clone. What Easy Target said in another review here is pretty obvious even early on: you either go for Vitality + Armor + Ion Shield or you won't make it. After some 8-10 minutes in (or every set number of levels), you'll get a warning for an event. Complete it and you'll get a crate - sometimes you also get all the experience scattered around, but I have no idea how/when that triggers - which is very underwhelming in how it opens. It shakes violently and then just *click* open. I'd rather it just immediately opened and gave the rewards, I always got annoyed by VamSur's very long casino-like animation whenever you opened a chest. There are no combos or synergies, which makes the already paltry number of upgrades even more boring. Seriously, there's: extra speed, extra armor, extra health, extra loot distance, extra damage, extra bullet speed, extra reload speed, extra permanent credit bonus, extra experience, extra critical chance, extra dodge chance - that's 10. There's probably like 2 or 3 more that I didn't unlock/forgot to mention, but it's not worth it. Weapons are very meh. Razor Blade is utter trash, Satellite Bomb is barely worth it, Gatling Gun is only useful after you open the upgrade for constant fire, Photon Gun is another worthless trash, while Laser Orb (which isn't an orb) is a must have for every run. Another annoyance is how terrain gets in the way of your movement, even in some places where it doesn't make sense, like the crashed helicopter near the beginning of the first stage. Got this on a Fanatical bundle, so I paid something like 2 USD for this. I also got Athenian Rhapsody, Lonesome Village and Troublemaker, so all in all it was a good deal. Too bad this game underlivers.

Solid VS style game. Interesting different way to upgrade/unlock things for your runs. It would be cool to see manual aim on controller with certain weapons like the photo blaster,

Plenty of grinding, nicely presented. Top tip - read all the research options (there are 4 or 5 tabs) - some are easy to achieve early on and help speed your progression significantly.

Basic survivors game, but pretty good for what it is - especially for the price.

For a vampire survivors in a sci fi setting, its actually a good game, wished it at hand lightsaber tho for a more melee style of combat

April 4th 2023 patch 0.7.2 game has become unplayable for to long with dev/s not posting a hotfix for the infinite loading bug that prevents game play. will be requesting refund as I can not play this game due to design. (was turned down by Valve asked to play next patch and ask for refund if product still wasn't working) May 23 update 0.7.4 This did in fact fix the recent game-play breaking bug that was effecting me.
