Deeproot Manor, while not the deepest or the most clear in its story (to me), has a lovely unique artstyle and head-scratching puzzles. Although it's not the scariest, it's a fun experience with your typical multiple endings and plot twists you'd expect from an RPG Maker horror game. Would recommend it!
This game is just okay. I'm giving it a thumbs up because I had a pretty good time playing it for a while. Once I reached the first ending and learned about the other ones I honestly didn't feel like bothering anymore and I stopped. There is definitely much more content and puzzles than I was expecting for the price. The horror aspect is well designed. The game feels creepy and I jumped a few times when scary stuff happened. The biggest negative for me is that the puzzles individually (mostly) make sense, but as a progression they don't. You know how in old school games it's obvious what you have to do, but you're just not sure how? Here you're kind of wandering around, and opportunistically changing some stuff about the environment. It's not clear why the house is rigged all over with trick mechanisms. The locations of useful items, by and large, make little sense. Some of the more logic based puzzles honestly feel kind of obnoxious. No ending is happy. After I reached the first one I went to learn from a character in the game about the other ones, and honestly I'm not up for solving lots of puzzles for hours just so I can fail in one way or another in every ending. The English text did not feel very idiomatic. That was mostly not too big of a deal, but it was a bit distracting in some of the longer dialogue scenes. So overall I'm very ambivalent about this game. I definitely don't regret getting it on sale for under $2, but I would not have loved paying full price for it.
Fun little game! I enjoyed it.
It's a glitchy mess, Shame really, as I was looking forward to playing it. Glad I only paid around 2 bucks for it.
Great game! got this thinking it would be a 2 hour playthrough and done, but theres more than i expected! just finished my first playthrough and i cant wait to get the other endings :)
Игра напомнила такие проекты, как The Witch's House, Viviette и Ib.
Easily one of the best RPG maker games I've ever played. Great characters and great writing, with lots of clever puzzles. Huge kudos to everyone who worked on this.
