About
"Welcome commander to your first non simulated mission. You are in control of our mining startup station, which has just reached our licensed territory in this sector. Mission begins now."
Deep Space Outpost is a sci-fi base builder with resource gathering and base management. Create your space station, mine asteroids for resources and make your mission a success.
Begin with a small startup station and a handful of worker droids. Build your own space station tile by tile to achieve your mission. Play an open sandbox mode, or choose one of eight different scenarios and try for a high score. A station builder mode allows you to create blueprints to use in game and share via Steam workshop
Build and expand a space station using your starting worker droids, add new rooms, facilities and production modules.
Mine and collect asteroids for raw ore and refine it into metal, fuel, oxygen and water. Gather drifting scrap and salvage derelict ships to reclaim metal.
Build a production chain, transforming raw resources into refined goods and items to sell or use to support your station.
Manage station power, balance generation, batteries and consumption while surviving solar storms and electrical failures.
Hire human workers from passing traders and keep them alive with life support, crew quarters, food, and entertainment.
Assign and prioritise jobs so workers build, repair, transport goods, or respond to critical threats.
Trade with visiting ships - buy and sell resources, repair and refuel vessels, and charge visitors for access to your facilities.
Construct defence turrets to protect your station from asteroids, scrap impacts, and pirate attacks. Brace for boarding raids from pirate crews.
Repair damage and respond to emergencies including hull breaches, fires and item breakdowns.
Research new schematics to unlock advanced buildings, upgrades and production technologies.
A new procedurally generated space sector each time you play. Replay or share map seeds.
You begin with a handful of worker droids and a small outpost in deep space. As your station develops, you’ll assemble a complete production chain that transforms raw resources into refined goods and advanced items to sell, trade, or use to support your expanding infrastructure. Your workforce grows from simple droids to hired human crews brought in by passing traders. Humans require life support, breathable air, co2 capture, food and comfortable quarters.
Entertainment, tourism, and station amenities - Life support will mean travellers will arrive, and you can open your airlocks and offer them access to entertainment facilities, bars, canteens, casino and other amenities. Visitors will explore your station, spend money on food, drink, and leisure and reward you with steady revenue if you keep them happy.
Research and unlock new technologies - Purchase new schematics to expand your station with advanced modules, improved production methods, and stronger defensive systems. Enhance station security with upgraded hull plating, access controls, shields, and more powerful turrets. Improve your droids with better armament, increased battery capacity, and higher carry limits. Unlock new processing and infrastructure systems, such as the distillery, the laboratory and sewage treatment plant to further develop your station’s capabilities.

I don't normally write reviews and I don't normally buy fresh Early Access products anymore due to the endless, unfinished heap of examples that stand as testament to being a poor practice. Perhaps it's my recent binge of FTL or idle curiosity but I decided to roll the dice on Deep Space Outpost. It is very, very barebones right now and probably the earliest EA I've rolled the dice on, but I do see the potential for "stationary FTL-like" gameplay so I will hold on to this one and add it to favorites to further track development. If you're patient and curious to see where this leads, then I'd recommend it. The ***potential*** is there and for that, I chose to lend my support.
I say yes, but wait and see what they add. Needs some form of research/progression, and more stuff to do or work towards. Has the building blocks to a great game, but it currently just the foundation, which is what i expect of an early access.
Dont like it as it is now... if you by mistake set half of your base to delete. there is no way you can stop it so you have to wait for it to be disasebled to rebuild it... so anoying
Irrespective of the fact that I know the developer - I am not going blow smoke. Deep Space Outpost has been released into Early Access (a good while ago now) and is 100% still a GAME IN DEVELOPMENT. Niris is a one-man-band developer and he is thoroughly enjoying learning and adding and tinkering and watching his creation grow and I know for a fact that he has so much planned for the game, but it is slowly, slowly catchy monkey. It has to be - he is on his own! I get vibes of what Rimworld or Dungeon Keeper or similar must have been like when the developers were just starting out. But don't get me wrong - at time of review, despite only showing 2.5 hrs of game play at time of review, I have played the game much more than that. If you like builders / management / strategy games - it's well worth it and the other great thing, is that Niris is absolutely open to *all* suggestions for future content - nothing is ignored and everything is accepted as ideas, or criticism, or praise, or whatever. Pop a message on the Itch.io page, or here and he'll surely see it - you might even get on the credits page, if your suggestion is used! The last time I played, I dropped a few hours and didn't even notice the time go by and that was a few builds back and a few iterations behind what is in the game now. Some parts are a bit clunky, some things could be nicer, but it'll all come good. It's a lovely little space strategy builder sim.
If you're into space, and if you're into management, this game is good for you.
the early access is, as the description says, the basic mechanics. and despite some performance issues (which is to be expected) i have enjoyed my time with it so far! looking forward to whatever is coming down the pike! edit: a year-ish later and 25+ more hours in the game, i am still having fun with it and the dev has consistently been updating the game. still recommend! fun to play while listening to podcasts or music or whatever
Very nice & relaxed RTS game, there is some bugs & a lot of potential for added content, currently it is fun & playable if you don't mind a few bugs.
Deep Space Outpost: A Stellar Adventure Rating: ★★★★★ In the vast expanse of the steam, Deep Space Outpost shines as a beacon of ingenuity and resourcefulness. This gripping game is a strategic resource management with the charm of droids, and survival. Pros: Resource Management Excellence: Deep Space Outpost excels in resource allocation. Players must carefully balance energy, Metal, and building to survive in the harsh interstellar environment. The scarcity of resources adds tension, making every decision matter. Droids: Our Loyal Companions: Droids play a pivotal role in the game. These AI companions assist with mining, repairs, and exploration. The procedural generation ensures that no two playthroughs are alike. Replayability is high. Strategic Base Building: Constructing and expanding your outpost is both satisfying and strategic. Choose where to place solar modules to optimize power distribution, and turrets defend against cosmic threats. Cons: Learning Curve: Deep Space Outpost doesn’t hold your hand. New players might feel overwhelmed initially. A more gradual introduction to mechanics would benefit beginners. In Conclusion: Deep Space Outpost invites you to embark on an captivating blend of resource management, droids, pirates and exploration, this game is a stellar addition to any space enthusiast’s library. Prepare for launch, commander! 🚀✨ Note: This review is based on the Beta version 0.5 Developers may address the learning curve in future updates.
Not very good. Need alot of work and after two years , it doesnt feel like it will finish ever!
Brick by brick, we'll work this one through, as Irreverend Opinions takes a look at Deep Space Outpost! (Early Access 0.7.0.6 edition) [strike]---[/strike]
The Blurb
Deep Space Outpost is a space station building & survival game offering a lightweight hard sci-fi colony manager.
The Summary
Beyond the promise it definitely holds, Deep Space Outpost is a simple, but involved, colony management sim in it's own right. Still very much an Early Access title, however.
The Good
It is pretty simple and easy to get started with either sandbox or missions, avoiding resource clutter and keeping systems flowing well. The graphics are lightweight and retro, with distinct sprites and some small details that help to draw the eye or add just a small touch of extra immersion. Gameplay is simple, but looks relatively balanced at each stage. Survival is as much about forward planning as it is about plugging in new systems. The tutorial is straightforward and helps new players well. Beyond basic survival, there's also station visits by various factions in game, who will give you mission contracts from time to time. Sounds and music in the game match the beat of the game. The roadmap looks inviting, and the developer is involved with their community. That said, the developer is extremely easy to talk to, and has a good eye on their project. Some elements do not mesh with one another, such as the defenses shooting down meteors that are being targeted for mining.
The Ugly
Several bugs will CTD, but that's what you expect in early access.
Suggestions
Early Access title, so go in expecting it to be polished later. Their Steam discussion page: http://steamcommunity.com/app/1712110/discussions is a good port for talking about the game, reporting bugs, etc. [strike]---[/strike] If you liked this review or want to see more recommended games, be sure to follow our curator group: Follow Original Curator Group
