Prologue
In the remote mountains of Thailand, a top-secret government laboratory becomes ground zero for a deadly virus that spreads with the ferocity of a wildfire. As the virus ravages the surrounding villages, the government imposes martial law, but it's too late. The virus claims thousands of lives in just one week, leaving no hope for a cure or vaccine.
As the infected slowly die and rise again as mutations, the government keeps their disappearance under wraps, and the project is abandoned, forgotten, and left to the virus's mercy.
However, 20 years later, the virus has spread beyond the isolated mountains, and the world is gripped in a pandemic that leaves no hope. The government, desperate for a cure, seeks foreign aid and dispatches a first expedition team to contain the outbreak, but they disappear without a trace. The second expedition team is sent in to find the source of the virus. However, as the team ventures back into the mountains, they realize that the virus has evolved, adapted, and become far more terrifying than anyone ever imagined. What they find there will test their will to survive and may mean the end of humanity as we know it.

Reviews
Pros: - Puzzles strike a nice balance not too hard, not too easy. - Combat is fun. I enjoy the gunplay, and the sound design is well done. - There’s a boss fight. - You can loot and craft (mainly ammo). - Weapons can be upgraded. - Gameplay feels similar to Resident Evil 1 — classic survival horror. - The environment is beautiful and atmospheric. Cons: - No melee combat (though it’s a shooter game, so that’s understandable). - Healing items are a bit too limited. - Map loading takes around 1.5 minutes but since it's seamless, it’s not a big issue. - Occasionally, the camera gets blocked by foliage. Overall: - I didn’t encounter any critical bugs during my playthrough. - I love this game. it has a cat!
I'm a fan, 10 of 10 in my book. - Update: Finished, wow, the amount of content in this game is amazing. - Excellent game, the more I play the more I'm impressed. Starts deceptively simple but layers and layers get added. Great action, but intelligent design makes observation paramount. As is the use of resources at the upgrade workbench. Would add more plants, most valuable of all in my view. Could see this level of creativity done by famed Blobber Team, and it's here for full enjoyment. Highly recommend you don't miss this. At a certain point my rather old graphic card stopped working well: not drawing certain walls and foes, leaving them invisible. Just opened C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\DecayZ_Origin\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor GameUserSettings.ini [ScalabilityGroups] sg.ResolutionQuality=60.000000 ( instead of 100.0000 causing the bork ) Fixed all, zero problems to the end of the game. --- Disclosure: 70 y.o. gamer, I make C.E. tables for all the games I play. For other slower mature gamers or the interested, some hints to enjoy this gem fully : Stamina current and max addresses, Float, 100.0000. Health, same. Corrupted Blood (red line) is another address, Float, 0.0000 = full health, more is unhealthy -up to 100- Ammo all weapons, Chamber, current and max, Float. Gold is Float. Ammo magazines, etc, 4 Bytes. Enjoy !
Its a fun little "On the rail" $10 Indie zombie shooter. Shoot, Reload, Craft. Rinse Lather Repeat. The Meley needs some work imho. https://www.youtube.com/live/zQjJBUq4sBs?si=33UMLBfDnW4DWqEN
Although I have only just started playing, I'm putting a review up now (and will update once I have completed the game) since this game seems to be going way under the radar which is a real shame because this is a genuinely well crafted experience, and a clear passion project with a lot more to offer than you might think. As it stands, there is no controller support which is not a deal breaker for me, but I really am looking forward to trying it with a controller (developer is working on adding this in the future) as it is my preferred way to play. That said, it controls really nicely with keyboard and mouse, very responsive and the combat is fun and engaging. It can be a little rough when zombies run at you though, I've had a couple of them more or less get stuck to me until I kicked them off, so I am looking forward to the next update which sounds like it will add a melee combat system. Level design so far seems quite solid too. And of course, the cat is cute and charming. Who doesn't want to go blazing through zombies with a cat on their shoulder? If you are on the fence, consider giving it a chance. If you like the style of recent resident evil remakes, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised by this one. At the beginning of the game you can save a kitten from the attack of a zombie. The little fella then will join you for the rest of the game, sitting on your shoulder and warning you of some valuable loot in your proximity. Sadly that's pretty much the only positive aspect of this game. DecayZ Origin took me roughly 10 hours to complete (it can probably be completed faster than this) and they were the longest 10 hours of my life. The fundamental flaw of this game, in my opinion, is that it completely misinterprets what makes a good survival horror/horror shooter game. What this game thinks is fun and engaging is shooting zombies with a firearm and that's it. Because it's pretty much all you do in this game. Excluding the very first sections, which are decently designed and connected through shortcuts, for the vast majority of the game you just run through different sections, which are basically long corridors with different themes, shooting groups and groups of undead. No resource management: the games throws at you more bullets than you can ever shoot. No strategy in dealing with enemies: like I said, you have plenty of ammo and, once triggered, the enemies will stay aggroed for a long time so there's no reason to not kill each and every one of them. No interconnected map means you don't have to memorize its layout or the different routes and shortcuts to reach your destination. Every section requires some key item to progress, so you take a detour to grab a key or a fuse that opens a door containing the aforementioned item, so you can go back to use it, opening the path to the next map section. Repeat the process for every section in the game. All of that while you mow down herds of zombies and your running speed is equal to a casual jog. I have to give a special mention to a specific zone called Death Swamp. Here you are obviously moving through a swamp and the waist-high water forces you to walk throughout the section. Its name must come from the fact that everyone who went trhough it ki**ed themselves before reaching the end of it. The story is pretty much non-existent: during the game you find some scattered notes, which consist of either the combination for a "hidden" safe with a bunch of loot or the ramblings of some random survivor that adds nothing to the plot. Once you reach and complete the last section of the game, after a horrible final boss fight, you are met with a 10 seconds cutscene where you conveniently find a fully functioning and replenished helicpoter and escape with a sample of the virus. No insight on what happens after your successful mission, not even through text. I really hate ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on what clearly is a solo dev project which is still in Early Access, but I genuinely can't see any good reason to play this in its current state, especially for the base price, and I really think everyone who left a positive review didn't actually finish it.
