There's a ton of retro rally games and while this one looks really cool in the video's game play way it is way down there. Cars have no weight, flow breaking prop placements. graphical glitches. Some people here say it plays like Sega Rally, it absolutely does not, not even close. It's in early access but there hasn't been an update in over a year so i wouldn't hold my breath If you want a fun retro Rally game go for Rush Rally 3 https://store.steampowered.com/app/2020860/Rush_Rally_3/
The idea of this game seemed great - I loved the Sega rally games back in the day on the Sega Saturn and it seemed like a homage to them and some QoL features, sadly it didn't turn out to be this way. The game is in early access, so I expected it to not be perfect and some things to iron out over time but it's a bit early for Early Access really, which is a shame. I found that the FPS can tank and that the controls are delayed, which became frustrating - after 30 minutes, I wanted to exit the game and not play further. The FPS/graphics side would be acceptable in Early Access, but the controls is not sorted yet which needs to be top priority. Hopefully in a years time the issues will be ironed out and this will be a good game to play, fingers crossed! EDIT for the Dev: Thanks for getting back to me, when running the game, I was running it on a 4070ti Super with a Ryzen 5 7600 CPU (APU disabled) and 32GB ram, it's not going to be a resource issue for sure. I do have a laptop with a 4060 aswell, but it was not tested on there. The bigger factor really was the controls, using an Xbox controller (with the 2.4gz receiver, not bluetooth) it had delays for controlling the car which made it not fun to play - the controller works in other games all okay.
As an autistic Gen Z-er fan of Sega Rally Championship 1995 who was born in 1997, who loved the game ever since he was 4 years old and has spoken to Kenneth Ibrahim the original announcer and Kenji Sasaki the director. This game is a solid foundation for a good game. Some constructive criticism, the game is optimised well, but as it's incomplete there are some graphical glitches here and there, I know the game is a "Work in Progress" so the final product will be slightly to very different from the Early Access version. Also, the game is very fast paced, more faster paced than the original Sega Rally 1995 and slightly faster than Sega Rally 2, it is also more challenging than both versions as there are obstacles on the course and physics compared to the original Sega Rally, I'd say it's very Wipeout like in Pace. Overall though, it is a good game. The Co-Driver is good, voiced by the wonderful Emma Topping, she adds some energy to the game. And her voice reminds me of Katherine Moran who voiced Kayleigh in Cassette Beasts. The game is very faithful, however I do take into account that it is quite different from the original version of Sega Rally, it has some artistic license compared to the original such as courses being in a different order than the original game. The Courses are of course not the original versions of Sega Rally Courses but are aesthetically based on them. Which is a brilliant concept in itself, also neat is the idea of Fictional Car Companies and Sponsors to avoid Licensing Issues. Overall, probably the best replication of an arcade game ever, all done by one person(Excluding all the special thanks), from a long-time fan of Sega Rally.
Super steve.weiter so.
I love the game and I recommend it. But why put trees and stones on the edge of the track when Sega Rally doesn't have them? They could be put in the hardest mode.
As someone who's been playing the old SEGA Rally games, mainly 1 and 2 arcade versions, this is the closest we will get to either of them on Steam. In its current state, I'd suggest buying this game on sale. This game is pretty great, as an arcade rally racer it stands up solidly. The handling on off-terrain surfaces like dirt, snow, sand etc have gotten better since release. Same with the brakes and handling, it's gotten much better. The playground mode has gotten much better now that the grip has improved. Music is alright, gets the job done. Bless the developer for including a custom music feature, one of the best inclusions imo. Graphics have gotten better. The screenshots are severely outdated, and the game has gotten a serious glow-up since first release, and I'm loving how it looks and feels now. The other amazing thing about this game is that the main developer is genuinely open to feedback. I've been in contact with the developer for a little while, with various things like bug finding, handling modules and course feedback. Ever since then, he has made great improvements to this game. This game has come a long way since it first began. From the great graphics to its faithful and thrilling arcade racing gameplay, THIS is the closest we will get to a good SEGA Rally feeling game on Steam in ANY capacity.
solid base in place here. nostalgia
Phenomenal love letter to SEGA Rally, with some Daytona mixed in! Great physics, awesome sound design, nice car models (fun alternate liveries too!), great music, and just... it's DAMN fun to play. The sense of speed is fantastic, the UI is absolutely spot on, and the overall vibe is captured really well. You've knocked this out of the park! I do have a bit of a feature wish list, if I may: 1) Some of the tracks feel kind of flat - not much elevation change, especially on Forest, Desert and Mountain. Alpine feels amazing, though! Some more natural-feeling terrain would go a long way to making the courses more technical and memorable. (Plus, some crests on the Lakeside straightaways sure wouldn't be missed - high speed jumps are fun!) 2) For the speeds you can reach in this game, the simple co-driver is a bit lacking - more descriptive pace notes, like in SEGA Rally 2 with distance calls and more detailed turn descriptions, would help a LOT. The stages in DDI are way more technical, and there are some blind corners that are absolute run killers; especially that sharp left-hander on Desert on the other side of the crest. That should be a "caution, heavy left over crest!" rather than just a "medium left" imo! 3) I also kind of wish the music was selectable per stage, rather than it being randomized on every playthrough. Part of the classic arcade racer charm is that every stage has its own vibe, and the music plays a huge role in that. Purple Dream would be a great fit to have on Forest, it's a damn good song to get you pumped for a Championship run! (Would also avoid the issue I had on stream where my first run randomized the same song for the first three stages. XD) My opinions aside, I'm super excited to see where this game goes!!! I can't wait for the next update :D
