About

There’s been a backlog of unsolved cases piling up in the Minor Crimes Division of the Los Zorangeles Police Department and we’ll need a Database Detective to help solve them.
We’ll need you to analyze clues and manipulate data using SQL, a database querying language, to figure out who perpetrated crimes from as minor as littering to as serious as not checking out of a hotel after the check-out time.

Don’t worry! This role is intended to be accessible for those without any SQL experience, so each Database Detective is given an introductory textbook when they start! This short textbook is less than 20 pages and explains everything that’s needed to solve each case.
If you still have trouble writing queries, our comprehensive error messaging system will tell you exactly where your query went wrong, making it easy to correct your mistakes.
Still not enough? Each Database Detective is assigned an assistant who’s ready to answer any questions you might have, whether they be about the case itself or the SQL queries you’ll need to write!

Understanding how to manipulate data using SQL is not the only part of being a Database Detective! Your job will also require you to piece together evidence and clues, just like a real detective! Further on in your Database Detective career, you’ll have to sleuth through the internet and piece cases together yourself.
Fully voice acted mission briefings at the beginning of each case!
Fully hand drawn art for you to enjoy!
More than 40 websites to explore!
10 cases for you to solve, each case getting longer and more complex!
A total of around 8-10 hours of valuable work experience to add to your resume!

Deductive reasoning and databases are a natural fit; loved it.
Always wanted more of that web version of SQL Murder Mystery. This is great!
Did I see a game about SQL and squeal, “OH MY GOD, IT’S A GAME ABOUT SQL”? Yes. Yes, I did. This game is far more entertaining than interrogating a database has any right to be. Zoran has never caused harm. Zoran has never been wrong. Zoran wants you to play this game. I agree with Zoran completely, voluntarily, and without coercion.
Outstanding!
So I just got done 100%-ing this game. What a genuinely fantastic game. I know nothing about SQL or coding in general for that matter, but aside from being annoyed at math, there genuinely was not a moment while playing this that I felt like I couldn't do it or figure it out. Finding solutions to the puzzles felt difficult, yet satisfying. I love how there are multiple ways to get to the solution as far as how you're typing the code/functions. If you're into this kind of "retro desktop" style game, I can't recommend this enough. Don't let the idea of coding or math deter you, it's worth it. 5/5 Zoran is great leader!
Tremendo juego, super gracioso y encima aprendes 10/10. En ningun momento me imagine que mirar tablas, hacer peticiones y JOINS sea tan divertido!
This game is fantastic!! Would highly recommend if you liked HypnoSpace Outlaw and enjoy programming games. The mysteries pull no punches and doesn't hold your hand! I was very happy with the level of difficulty and logic. There were definitely some head scratchers in here and the solves were incredibly satisfying.
amazing game
good ol sql
The boss asked me what I like about this game (he was genuinely shocked I liked it) + Very fun game + You can see a lot of time and effort was put into the game + Lots of satire and jokes + Puzzles are tricky and make you think hard + At times you don't even know that what you see is the key to figuring out the case, clues hide in plain sight + Had some keybindings already built in (like Ctrl + Left for movement) + The animation when you arrest someone + Asking for help (had to in the Hampshire level at the end) does not give away the final answer, you still need to implement the solution + The PonziScam family and the All In Donations + You don't have a predetermined set of rules (like in minesweeper where the number in the cell says how many bombs are around) and it feels like you have to think the rules yourself at times (it feels that way, it gives you the illusion of control) - I think a couple extra levels could really go a long way, but I think that this can be made possible using the Steam Workshop and some level editor or something (if this exists already, sorry, I did not check before writing). I know that this is a lot of work to ask but it would make the game even cooler. - I am too used to Alt + Tab-ing to other applications and it was annoying but bearable (I checked the settings too late and did not know there is a hotkey for that...) - (small inconvenience) You cannot resize windows - I played on the day of the release, SQLite broke a couple of times but I think it's fixed now?? I don't know what I did to break it. 0 I cannot comment on the manual (I knew MySQL and SQLite is very similar, although a couple features are missing they are not that important) or music (I don't listen to music)
