About
Dark Hollow is a grim text-driven RPG about surviving in a world already halfway buried.
Hunt monsters for coin, take contracts from desperate townsfolk, descend into forgotten catacombs, rob the dead, and wander through cursed forests where every step further from town feels like a mistake.
Your words shape how you survive.
Choose where to travel, who to trust, what to carry, and whether risking another journey into the dark is worth what waits at the end of it. Time passes with every action. Weather shifts without warning. Madness follows you home from places better left untouched.
The farther you travel from town, the stranger the world becomes. Bells echo through empty chapels long after midnight. Shapes move through the fog where nothing should be standing. Travelers vanish along the roads and sometimes return days later — silent, shaking, wrong.
There are no grand kingdoms left to save. No glory waiting at the end of the road. Most people in Dark Hollow are only trying to make it through another night without losing themselves completely.
You are no different.
Not chosen.
Not destined.
Not important.
Just another desperate soul carrying a weapon through the dark because dying frightened is worse than dying tired.
Some people pray.
Some people drink.
Some people bury what they’ve done and keep walking.
Death is permanent.
The Hollow remembers.

So I wanted to start this off with some Steam Deck tech advice for those that may try it on their Deck. This does work well docked in desktop and portable mode. Do this first though. Dark hollow>settings>compatibility mode>force to Proton version (For me it was Proton Experimental) For portable mode a tip I have is to use Steam button + left on depad and that will act as the escape key. Virtual keyboard worked well otherwise. Ok onto the gameplay. I genuinely see potential here, if you are an old head that likes or remembers the days of text adventures this definitely has that feeling. Even if you are younger, but you enjoy the nerdy aspects of dnd that has you paint a picture in your mind about where you are in the world, I feel this does that very well. Let's you just use some imagination. Now tbh, I only played an hour as of my review, so I don't really know if there is any bugs or not on my end, I kinda just typed and went in a few different directions to explore. I feel like that could possibly be this games strongest suit as well. It's ability to HAVE you the player discover the world and its secrets. In my opinion, I think the game is worth a try.
you cant sell item to collector when there is more than one item, dont know to sell multiple item, when using x[count] in invetory collector not interested. can you make walk to town executed again until there is event then looping until player arrived at the town? can you save a command so i don't type same command multiple times(or there is a mechanic i don't notice?) can we use item? there is no clear instruction if you can use item just inspect eat [foodname] and drink water is one of the hidden instruction. i can't recommend, but i can't not recommend too there is no neutral button but for i will give recommend
Cool game. Has a few bugs. Cant sell items to Collector if there are more than 1 in my inventory. Gives a message saying "not enough gold" when I buy bandages. Buying the bandages works, but it gives the error message anyway. The mining mechanic needs some work too. I just typed "mine" as fast as I could and made a lot of money very quickly with seemingly no downside. Not bad for less than $2.
