Follow our curator page, Alexander's Club Curations if you like and want to see more reviews like this one.
---
PROS
--- +Good progress system +Peaceful ambiance +Beautiful scenery ---
CONS
--- +Buggy +Unpolished +Bad tutorial ---
OVERVIEW
--- Dark forester brings you into your own peaceful forest to build and defend against waves of baddies in a sort of tower defense/rogue-like/rpg mix of engaging gameplay, leaving the player to build, protect and farm their way to greatness. ---
GAMEPLAY: 3/5
--- Controls: Simple, most comparable to ARPG's. Right click to move, 1-5 to use magic, tab to attack. You can edit the inputs if needed. Very basic. Gameplay Mechanics: The mechanics are the most interesting part of this game. There is an open forest and the player can build wherever they would like, except on the very border of the map. While progressing, more buildings unlock and there are more units to place but it's limited by your level as well. In between waves of the PvE element of the game the player can choose to attack other players for resources which is almost a must because the waves of PvE monsters become increasingly difficult. That's basically it. Build, then defend or attack and keep building. Difficulty: The game makes itself seem much more difficult than it is by including an overly lengthy tutorial in one huge mouthful rather than splitting it into spots when necessary. After you get a hang of what's going on, the game is very simple to the point of boring before increasing in difficulty again as waves increase. Progression: Progression is just like your basic RPG game. You gain xp and resources, level up with xp and build with resources. It seems fairly balanced as long as you're attacking other players as well as defending your base. However, if the character dies or the main house is destroyed, progression is brought back a few levels or in some cases all the way back to the level 1, giving the game a very tense, rogue-like feel to it. ---
GRAPHICS: 3/5
--- Environment: The environment is nice and is set in an autumn forest leaving the player in a lush world of orange and brown that really feels quite peaceful. Models: The player and monster models feel quite aged and plain, nothing to really talk about here and about what one expects from an indie game like this, if not just a tiny bit better than one would expect. Animations: There's not much for animations while fighting but I found that the death animation was pretty cool, although they felt out of place, with explosions and lightning effects. User interface: The user interface is pretty bad. Filled with unnecessary clutter. When you click on your monster it brings up a huge window that's mostly empty, the building ui doesn't disappear during the combat phase leaving a large black bar down the side of the screen. ---
PERFORMANCE/TECHNICAL: 2/5
--- Bugs: Bugs are abundant in this game everywhere. From buildings randomly disappearing, to poor save states leading to game restarts, game crashes, hefty and unstable loading times and many more. The game is barely playable in its current state and only so if you're willing to run the risk of a complete restart on your progress. Performance: The game runs well on max graphics for me, I don't experience any lag or stutter and it runs smooth. As mentioned under bugs however, the loading times can be long and even a couple of times the game just refused to load for me and resulted in a corrupt save state. ---
VALUE: 1/5
--- Replay-ability: If the bugs were taken care of and the was less of a risk of a corrupt save, this game would have a great amount of replay value. It seems to stretch on quite far, but starts to feel like a grind fairly quickly, having to keep your resources up from attacking other players, many of whom are at base level with no defense. Money value: I, personally, would not be happy with purchasing this game for 15$ in its current state. I see many people get it on sale or from when it was on early access for less than a dollar and I feel that's a fantastic value for what you're getting. However, even if the game was in a pristine state, polished and bug free, I don't feel like 15$ is a good value without the addition of much more content. I'd value the game in it's current state at under 5$. ---
OVERALL: 2/5
--- Overall, the game seems to be very interesting with loads of replay value and is a great concept, however all of that is overlooked by the bugs, horrible tutorial, and a poorly designed user UI. I understand the dev is still hard at work making improvements so definitely keep an eye out for improvements to the game in the future, if nothing else, I can surely say that this game is worth following and keeping on your indie radar. ---
MY PC SPECS
--- CPU Intel Core i5 @ 3.60GHz Coffee Lake 14nm Technology RAM 16.0GB Dual-Channel Unknown @ 1066MHz (15-15-15-36) Motherboard Micro-Star International Co. Задумка очень хорошая. Игра очень интересная, чувствуется начинка :). Есть парочка недоработок (в режиме от первого лица очень часто лагает) есть интересные вещи типа можно строить свой лес. Удачи и всего наилучшего.
First time in hundreds of Steam purchases that I've requested a refund... and it really is that bad. The UI is terrible, there's no tutorial, just a 9-step panel of quick tips on the UI which were clearly built with the help of Google Translate from Russian, making it very difficult to understand, character controls are terrible -- requiring you to click and drag defensive units during live combat, which also simultaneously forces your main unit to move (and get stuck moving), and a load of other technical issues that were already touched on by other reviewers. If there's anything fun about this game, it's lost in frustration long before I could get to it. Stay clear of this one.
Будем смотреть релиз, пока игра стоит 1-го доллара.
It's basicly base building plus an MMO plus an RPG except the base is a forest. Devoted developer which is more than can be said about most stuff these days. slow but steady progress. Have had a lot of fun with it. Game has finally been over-hauled and brought to full released. Amazingly immersive world and quite a unique little game. Have yet to get tired or bored with it and the game has gotten better and better over time with the Developer's hard work and dedication to seeing it reach it's full potential. Can't go wrong with this little gem if you are into it's genre elements.
Worth the .89 for sure.
Удачи с игой! когда вы вернетесь к туториалам по Unity3d? Вы не думали показать с самого начала, хотя бы основные моменты для построения собственной игры?
