Reviews
I expected much more from this game because I watched the anime a few years ago, but it was disappointing. The story is interesting in some parts, like how the school turned into a shelter, and they lost their memories, and how all of this was orchestrated by twins of despair, but there were also so many bad parts that I was so surprised this game got an Overwhelmingly Positive review. 1- The characters are extremely stereotypical, and a lot of them have no depth, even the main character. 2- The class trials have some of the most frustrating mechanics, not hard but annoying 3- It's so long and slow, the pacing is just not good, I skipped so many parts 4- The world just "fell into despair"? No other explanation? 5- The mysteries or cases are not even that hard 6- I think the "alternate ending" is a reason alone why I don't like this game Overall, was it horrible? No, but I think it's extremely overhyped and not worth the hours I wasted.
The native linux version did not work without tinkering on Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS. Even with tinkering, the launcher crashes trying to change graphics settings. The game otherwise seems to work fine. It did not support my Apple Silicon MacBook or Intel MacBook without Bootcamp, which was unfortunate. Notably, not the anniversary edition of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, which is unfortunately only available on the Xbox store. This makes the Steam version the worse version of the two PC releases. With the last announcement on this game page being made on November 25, 2024, and the most recent patch to the game being made on September 2, 2016, I would consider this Steam release abandoned.
THH leaves a feeling of nostalgia. The off-putting atmosphere is amazing, cases and minigames are a little easier to crack than SDR2 and V3's. Shoutout to Makoto Naegi. His speeches are so hopeful that it inspired me to have hope as well.
