Deceptively whimsical, Dandy is a perma-death side-scrolling shoot 'em up with stacking power-ups. Different on every playthrough, with reactive enemies that force you to use strategy.

Dandy looks crisp and all, but It has problems with the pacing. The game begins with some sweet, not really bombastic, but decent action. You get your power-ups, you kill some candy. But then, as the levels get increasingly longer, It starts to DRAG. You float and float slowly for what seems like eternity, things stop changing. Under such circumstances the action gets tedious and then you die - not because of the challenge, but because It takes too much patience to live.
Side-scrolling shoot 'em up with procedurally generated levels... except what's really generated is the number and type of enemies you face, not the environments as there are no obstacles. Good electro soundtrack. You can only go up or down, which I found quite limiting. I got hit sometimes because of that. It's subjective but I didn't like the look of the enemies that only had dots for eyes and/or lines for mouths. I liked the choice of three upgrades after every level but was often forced to take heart for health. It's not obvious what upgrade does what from the icon. No scores so no leaderboards. No way to track progress and how far you went. There was little incentive for me to keep trying.
Half the time I was shooting, it seemed like my bullets were the same color as the background, so it was hard to see if I was hitting or missing the targets. There were a large number of power ups, but not very much information on what they did and how they would combine. It seemed like a very well made game, and everything was crisp and clear, it just wasn't the game for me.
Do not judge this game from its cute style, it will tear into your heart with fear and frustration as the globs of sweets swarm into your defenceless body, which shall never be ready. Even when you think you have the upper hand, you will find the torment to be far from finished. The end seems so close but in truth it is so very far. Do not attempt should you suffer from mental instability or high stress levels for if it can break you, it will break you.
Pretty bad shoot'em up. Hit detection is bad, some bullets miss enemies going through them. Movement is restricted to vertical only. After finishing first stage game froze leaving not much choice but to terminate it. Don't trust Dandy! Seriously.
bad game
Looks ok, but 90% of all enemies are just annoying little sh|ts and since you can only go up or down - it's really hard to avoid their projectiles or to finish them all off before they come at you like magnets. It would have been a decent game if not for the hardcore mentality in every single way.
An "ok" indie side scrolling shooter, plays reasonably well, but its quite repetitive and wasn't endearing enough to warrant anything more than a few hours play.
