Love this game T_T It's literally the last day of 2024, and I'm still hoping for a sequel lol
maybe mystic messenger was the outlier
dandelion was the first otome game i ever watched a playthrough of in like 2014, so some of my thoughts might be colored by nostalgia. but even with its flaws, i really love this game. some of the translation can get wonky every once in a while, nd some routes are a bit meh (looking at YOU jisoo) but over all this is a good intro to otomes!! jieun is my personal favorite, but i really love jiwoo nd heejung's dynamic. plus yet i can't stay is SUCH a banger!!!! i wish cheritz still gave attention to this game... i'd kill for some new merch
My beloved cheritz team. I discovered this game only after i played their mobile otome game MysticMessenger (I recommend it 100%). For Dandelion, considering its release date, it is a solid visual novel with unique mechanics. The story is amazing and very touching. Also the opening song 10/10 straight up banger.
Originally 6,614 characters over, bastardized to fit. The person who rec'd this to me BETTER appreciate this. :P Writing style: A bit juvenile. Had a lack of focus on the world/cast dynamic. Did not appreciate the implication of pre-transformation romantic feelings toward animals. Soundtrack: Enjoyable, Fit very well. Mechanics: Nothing difficult. Very easy to balance. I did get the bungled stats bad ending straight away because I wanted to know but who cares about that ♥♥♥♥ when we all know you just care about le boyz. :P Jiyeon: Bad boy type *rolls eyes* MC somehow falls for this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amidst her concern and worry. At some point he sees himself in her sketchbook, taunts her into a confession only to pin her down, scaring her ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ while aggressively kissing her pretty much against her will. The ♥♥♥♥ right? Then backstory vomit. He apologizes, admits his insecurities. You're supposed to warm up to it all because his gang killed the woman who took him in off the streets. Like yeah, he's just lying and scamming people on the off chance he has to survive because of the stupid Wizard game but ♥♥♥♥ him because his route features an ultimatum where he causes MC to scrounge up 20k to some loser, which she gets from her ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mom miraculously who she's trying to keep her distance from but has to go back home and give up EVERYTHING. ♥♥♥♥ that noise. His bad ending features her college bestie professing love and determination to support her with his chicken restaurant. Jiyeon clearly is the chicken being served because he's no where to be found. Obviously he has a good ending and it's lukewarm sweet at best but again, not my jam. Sorry. Jisoo: Mild ♥♥♥♥ stirrer and a sort of insightful advisor acting like he's watching out for her (when you're not pursuing him) and you think, ok. He's gonna be this sweetheart when you go down his route and... Gah! Possessive jealous man. He has his moments of sweetness to be sure (like when he's reminiscing about his sick sister or noticing when MC is having a nightmare and comes in to comfort) and helps MC come into her own but oh my god, if she says you're hurting her with your manhandling let her go. Then take a step back or 20 to figure out whatever the hell that insecurity is. Hot damn. His bad ending? Abusive possessive monster. Keeps her drugged and cuts her off from the rest of the world. HELL NO! His good ending however is self sacrificing, giving up his memories of MC to stay in her world and he gets to with his sister who is sick free and tugs him into an art exhibit where a piece of art captivates him into vaguely remembering MC, how she took his words to heart by pursuing her dreams of happiness. Bittersweet. I liked it. Jihae: Blandest of them all. He's supposedly this crazy beautiful ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (A plot hook lost on me) with trauma of his lover committing suicide because in his world he's a looked down upon ugly bastard so she offs herself when her father she can't marry him. This initially creates distance because, how can it be?! I love you but I can never love again! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate that trope. Kill it. And if it MUST exist, I would have preferred to read a much longer tale that explores how they navigate love and healing but instead it keeps it disgustingly fluffy showcasing a gentle responsible considerate man who addresses the protagonist as "My Lady" who is deathly afraid of being an inconvenience. Not my preference but fine. Both good and bad endings really showcase this neurosis. Let's gloss over bad ending to point to good ending where he tries to get the Wizard to change his wish and gets denied because it's boring to do that. So he breaks it off with her to try and spare her but of course that's fun for the Wizard. So she meets him, wishes for Jihae, loses a piece of her memory and there he is, by her side. Woo or something. Jieun: This little weirdo gets drunk off of eating apples and can see the future. No bad ending for him because he's too badass for that. One minute he's having a heartfelt moment. The next? Under the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ table tweaking out about apples. He's deeply self aware and can see through MC, the catalyst where they go off and grow as two different people becoming closer as they do it. We LOVE a love story that's about being equal by coming into your own as you fall in love! So he's over here learning independence by letting go of Jihae (his knight) so he can figure out his own happiness while Jieun also reconciles with his guilt for taking it away in the first place. (He saw the future where Jihae's love kills herself but said nothing as his jealousy put him in a chokehold.) MC calls mom up and says that she's committing to making her own decisions now and understands her mom will never accept her for them. Then Jieun and the Wizard interact and he outplays the Wizard flawlessly. He's seen the future and says I'm bringing her to my kingdom because ♥♥♥♥ you, ♥♥♥♥ this game, Heejung will not seek you out. 3 years later he does an isekai on her and off to his kingdom she goes. It was a delicious ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ noodle to slurp! Jiwoo: Fun as ♥♥♥♥ Tsundere. Very into trashy romance ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. There's a moment he's acting out a scenario and MC is not having it. You want to be all intellectual and be extra about this ♥♥♥♥? Here's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Gregory Mankiw's Principles of Economics. Whacks ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ into next Tuesday. This quiets him for a bit until he's leaking out of his demeanor when MC corners him to talk. OF COURSE he knows what economics is! He even MEMORIZED THE PERIODIC TABLE! He thinks she hates him and just wants her to spit it out already! Mind you, this whole time he's been calling her various synonyms of stupid. MC is like he doesn't hate ME? What? Later her ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mother shows up to be a douche so he out douches her to which MC is like, how did you turn this into one of your novels? That's when they realize they're similar in their pain, being vulnerable together and ugh! My heart! His bad ending is unimportant but good ending? He's like listen, Wizard. ♥♥♥♥ my petty ass wish to have my family bankrupt into a billion pieces. Let me stay with her! Big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ no. ♥♥♥♥, right? He's got a month left. He's writing furiously. No one is allowed to see. Alexander Hamilton is jealous. His last night arrives. MC falls asleep on his shoulder, still scribbling. She wakes up eventually to meet the Wizard and she's like bro. Who the hell, what the ♥♥♥♥, doesn't matter, bring that dork back. Boom. Amnesia. Going through her stuff, finds what he was writing. Wrote their entire story down ending it with a note telling her everything he loved that he had previously called stupid because he knew she'd pay the price and wanted her to have his love anyway. ♥♥♥♥ you for writing something that made me cry sticking ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tears of sugar, you stupid, idiotic game developers! :P (I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ loved it, thank you.) The Wizard: Piece of work! He gets bored living between the human world and the Grim Continent, doing the wish for memory exchange so he can stay alive. He finds Heejung and immediately becomes obsessed. Can't tell if he loves her or wants to destroy her. Doesn't matter. Her life sucks, he believes she'll get desperate soon and meet him. But she doesn't. He's pissed she's stuck in her routine. So he crafts this game where all that has to happen is one of them has to make her fall in love with them naturally and he'll grant their wish because he's convinced what he wants most is just to see her run a gamut of emotions. So he gets into his own self destructive cycle where he's rewinding time so she can play out this weird love game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and he's getting weaker and bored til he's like... really I just want to be with her. I need someone to grant my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ desperate wish! Tada! He does it. Somehow. I was both sad and thankful we didn't get to see how that relationship develops but it's after story content so like... FINE.
