Great game, a few jump scares which got me. A few glitches but the game is in Beta. Can't wait for Episode 3.

Damned Hand is a small-scale first-person horror experience that leans heavily on atmosphere, confinement, and a sense of constant vulnerability. Developed and published by Applykat, the game places players inside a disturbing domestic space owned by a deranged art collector, turning what should be a familiar setting into a hostile maze of dark rooms, locked doors, and lurking danger. Rather than delivering a cinematic or narrative-heavy horror story, the game opts for a stripped-down approach that focuses on unease, exploration, and the fear of being hunted in a place where you never truly feel safe. From the moment the experience begins, Damned Hand establishes a claustrophobic tone. The house itself is the central character, filled with dim lighting, narrow corridors, and unsettling details that suggest violence and obsession without spelling everything out explicitly. The environment is designed to keep players tense, encouraging slow movement and cautious exploration as they search for keys and items needed to progress. The lack of clear guidance heightens the anxiety, as players are often unsure whether the next door will lead to safety, a dead end, or sudden danger. This reliance on environmental storytelling allows the game to create discomfort through suggestion rather than overt exposition. Gameplay revolves around exploration and survival rather than combat. Players are not empowered to fight back in meaningful ways, reinforcing a sense of helplessness that is common in psychological horror. Progress is achieved by learning the layout of the house, memorizing routes, and understanding how to avoid threats while gathering necessary items. This loop can be tense and engaging, particularly during early encounters when the threat feels unpredictable. However, because the game’s mechanics are fairly limited, repetition can begin to set in once players understand the core systems and map structure, reducing the long-term intensity. The horror itself is primarily atmospheric. Instead of elaborate scripted sequences or frequent jump scares, Damned Hand relies on lighting, sound cues, and sudden visual disturbances to unsettle the player. Ambient noises echo through the house, silence is used effectively to build anticipation, and brief moments of surprise are sprinkled throughout exploration. This restrained approach works well for players who appreciate slow-burn tension, though others may find it lacking in variety or impact compared to more polished horror titles that combine narrative, pacing, and enemy design more dynamically. Visually, the game reflects its indie and early access roots. Graphics are functional rather than detailed, with a focus on mood instead of realism. Textures, models, and animations are serviceable, but rarely impressive, and the overall presentation feels more like a prototype than a finished product. That said, the simplicity of the visuals does help maintain clarity during navigation and reinforces the bleak, oppressive tone of the setting. Sound design plays a crucial role in compensating for visual limitations, contributing significantly to the feeling of isolation and danger. One of the most notable aspects of Damned Hand is its early access status and the expectations that come with it. Content is limited, featuring a single primary environment and a relatively short experience overall. While this makes the game approachable as a brief horror encounter, it also highlights its unfinished nature. Players expecting additional scenarios, deeper mechanics, or narrative expansion may feel disappointed, especially given the slow pace of visible development updates. This incomplete feeling is reflected in its mixed community reception, where appreciation for atmosphere is often tempered by frustration over scope and depth. Taken as a whole, Damned Hand is best viewed as a small, experimental horror project rather than a fully realized genre entry. It offers moments of genuine tension and discomfort, particularly for players who enjoy minimalist horror and confined settings, but it struggles to sustain that intensity over time due to limited content and mechanical depth. For fans of indie horror curiosities or those interested in early access projects focused on mood and exploration, it can provide a short but eerie experience. However, it is a title that demands measured expectations, delivering atmosphere and tension in brief bursts rather than a polished or expansive horror journey. Rating: 5/10
It's been over +6 months since my last review, and back then... The menu would never load, no matter how many times I tried and I could never get into the game. I tried giving it another chance today but the problem has gotten worse since now the game won't even open, it crashes on the slightest touch and it won't even load!
