About
Damn Ropes is this one hard game nobody wants to play because it's too difficult a challenge but you play it anyway (just don't tell anyone you play on the 'Not So Hard' mode).
Enjoy this short but challenging game, made by one single person in his first semester (to be specific, most levels where built later but the core mechanics where made in the first semester. Why am I even telling you this? I don't know. Might be a nice fun fact). Will there be a second game? Who knows? Maybe?
There's no running and jumping in this platformer game. Use your rope to swing from platform to platform. Perform impressive maneuvers, beat diverse challenges and speedrun your way through each level. Oh, did I mention you can fall all the way down to the beginning of each level?
So you're a fan of torturing yourself so you speedrun every single game you can find? Good thing we prepared the game for you! There's a timer for every level as well as a global timer to track your records. The obvious route to the goal is not always the fastest one (spoiler: It never is).
So the game isn't difficult enough for you? Then try activating a challenge. Or two. Or all of them. There are challenges like the 'The Floor Is Not Lava But Very Dangerous' challenge where you've to reach the goal without touching the ground. Or the 'Your Rope Isn't As Good As It Should Be' challenge where you can't expand or decrease it. If you can beat the whole game with every single challenge activated at once you gained my deepest respect. Wanna know how to activate them? Finish every level and I'll let you in on the secret.
I wanted to create a challenging game, but I also want everyone to enjoy it. So I implemented the 'Not So Hard' mode. This mode helps a lot when you've trouble beating the game. It's easier to hit the environment with your rope and you can expand and decrease it further.
As you might've suspected, there's a second Damn Ropes title in the works. This one won't be a solo project anymore. Instead it's being developed by FULL STEAM STUDIOS. And you guessed it, I'm a part of FSS. So look forward to upcoming announcements on our social media! (However this'll still take a while. Please be patient)

Mega Spiel!
If you like raging like Jump King or Getting over it, this game has it, but it is very simplistic and lovable as wellThe character design is adorable, and the level/game design does challenge youI hope they get lots of success with this
Really tough game, but, once you get the hang of it, it aint so bad. Until you miss a rope, then you fall all the way back to the beginning. The particles in the background are a subtle hint to the recommended path, The graphics are simple, yet elegant. The controls can't be customized [yet] but they are pretty intuitive. 3 parts good game to 12 parts rage machine over all 15/10
Damn Ropes is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. The "developer" describes this shovelware this way: "Damn Ropes is this one hard game nobody wants to play because it's too difficult a challenge but you play it anyway." They were right and wrong; Yes, nobody wants to play this. No, nobody played it anyway. It was a complete disaster, one of the biggest flops to hit Steam. It's just a minimalist platformer with a swing mechanism... extremely poor quality even compared to the other 17,000+ platformers nobody wants on Steam. Platforming is an old, mostly dead genre, and this lacklustre experience, while it doesn't have an upfront cost, isn't saving the genre... it's no surprise this failed to capture any attention from gamers in the era of immersive 3D gaming. The graphics aren't great... that will understandably be a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
