Absolutely crazed, Unbelievably goated, incredibly soulful game here. Starts as a very janky Banjo Kazooie but then it escalates, and then it escalates, and then it escalates, and then it escalates. By the end you are playing a game completely unrecognisable to the early hours which I want to avoid spoiling so I will leave it like that. I promise the trailer does not indicate at all where the game is going, at least to the untrained eye. The jank never goes away though, if anything it only gets worse from the game's escalating ambitions. While I love this game I would only recommend to people who have a high tolerance for janky buggy gameplay. If that's you hop in because this is one of the wildest games I've ever played.
TL;DR review - I would say that this game is Banjo Kazooie meets Touhou. If you like collectathons then you'll enjoy this game. Long version of review Dai-Chan's Great Adventure has you playing as a Kappa named Nitori, exploring a world to uncover lost memories and discover what is going on in Gensokyo. At the start you're partnered with a Wolf Tengu named Momiji, who acts as your tutorial provider, and you'll meet other characters along the way. Controls - Nitori moves around how you would expect in a 3D platformer, along with some added moves that make traversal around the map a lot faster. But the first thing I would recommend you do is go into Config in the pause menu and reverse the camera controls, otherwise the camera will look right when you move your mouse left. What I do appreciate is that the game has a dynamic list of all available moves in the top right of the screen that isn't obtrusive. Game runs well on both Keyboard and Controller, but I found myself preferring Controller during play... Just don't bring the camera too close to a surface or it will freak out. Visuals - Dai-chan's Great Adventure is very colorful and blocky, making it look like Banjo Kazooie as much as it plays. What does stand out is the other characters in the game along with certain objects in the world: They will be 2D cutouts in the world until you walk up to them and interact with the cutout, at which point you'll be greeted with a highly stylized anime portrait of the character in question. You'll be interacting with these characters a lot as they will be in multiple areas. Gameplay - The goal of the game is to collect Memories (shaped like Floppy Disks) and to progress to the next map with the ultimate goal of figuring out what happened to Nitori's friends. In each map there is a set amount of Memories to grab along with 2 abilities and, Nitori's favorite snack, Cucumbers. Progression through the map flows well. You collect cucumbers, find a character that will give you 1 of the 2 new abilities, then use that new ability to traverse the map. There is also shortcuts to unlock and a boss somewhere in each map. Overall I enjoyed my time with Dai-chan's Great Adventure. I have excluded a story segment to the review because I am not very far into the game. I will update this review to include a story segment once I have completed the game. But would I recommend the game? Yes, I find it enjoyable, and I would have bought the game had I not been given a key.
English: Pretty fun game. It is a collectathon, with decent movement and interesting upgrades. It takes a while to get used to the camera, but nothing that can actually disrupt the game's flow. And I always wanted a game that allows you to play as Nitori ^^ Português: Joguinho divertido.
A cute collectathon-style game with a surprising amount of movement and combat options. Would highly recommend tweaking camera controls and maybe some buttons for controller play. Has some interesting twists and turns (and some actually challenging endgame content) if you stick with it!
A fun 3D collectathon with more to it than meets the eye. Is it very janky at times? Yes, admittedly. It's also extremely charming and clearly a work of passion. Also the developer gave out free keys to people who supported the translation of the game, which was an incredibly nice gesture.
Game is jank but it owns. It truly was a Dai-chan's Great Adventure: World's End
very janky but is full of heart. games truly can be made of anything
I would consider this game a sort of 3D metroidvania. You get an open world, in the sense you can travel to many places at any moment, and you get powers for easing the traversal, extending to further places. So is this an exploration game? Well, you could say that for half of the game. There's also combat and platforming, which it's a hit or miss depending how well you do. Is it a bit janky? Yes. But the game makes a play about it, so it in the end it feels somewhat natural. That also gives multiple ways to achieve a goal, so it feels dynamic. It's by no means a perfect game, the collectathon/questing are a bit conversome, but it feels very rewarding. It's also very fun to revise previous stages when the environment and enemies change, so you get challenged in places you are already familiar with.
This is a cute little janky Touhou collectathon. The sorts of movement you can do really make it a lot of fun when you figure out how to string them together. If you're a Touhou fan, a collectathon fan, or just looking to kill a little time on a silly little game, it's definitely a good choice.
