I played this game "A Lot" when it first came out, so it can't be that bad ... however it does have it's faults the largest being that it can't be completed without some hex editing to get past a door very near the end of the game, the door is impossible to get through without editing your way past it. The next drawback is there is no ingame map, and seeing as everywhere looks pretty much the same you can be wandering around for many real life hours trying to find a particular place ... Next, camping in the outside game map is particulary hard as you are constantly woken up to fight yet another horde of bad guys, fatigue quickly sets in so you have to keep reloading a save in the hope that the game gives you a break and lets you sleep so that you can move on. The above is the worst parts of the game, in general it is fun earning money "Through Fighting Mainly" to get better armour and equipment, and the inventory management is endless though satisfying. Botton line is you need to fight "A Lot" to make money to buy things like armour weapons and food ... Check your "Charactor Screen" after EVERY fight and save after every fight and even every action like before fights in Cities ... It is very randon and it's easy to get wiped out in a fight! Daemongate is old school, the fights are brutal ... Main thing to remember is check your fatigue after every fight and if it's a couple of points down eat some food and save, fatigue is your enemy if an an enemy flees on the battlefield, it will drain you very quickly ... You can control how many bad guys you want to fight if you are aware of exactly when a fight is going to happen by saving just before the battle and loading again if you are not happy with the number of enemys, it's pointless fighting one enemy as there is no profit in it, keep loading until you get a larger number. Always keep your armour to "Good" condition as just one piece that is in "Bad" or "Terrible" condition will get that party member killed! The way to win is throught rigid and O.C.D inventory management. Still playing it now, though i can't remember how to do the hex editing, though i.m sure i will work it out There is a walkthrough on the net, you can't miss it, it's the only one ... Follow it to the letter, as the game is event driven, as in B won't happen before you do A.
If you buy this game on Steam, make sure to download the original user manual from a trustworthy source. Because this still has the classic copy protection: typing something from the manual. Steam does not include it with the game. I'm sorry, but this is lame. Yeah, I can Google it, but I shouldn't. That's why GOG is still the best place for this kind of games.
No. Nope. No thank you. Hard pass. I mean just look at the video on the steam store page for this one and you can see the player fighting the controls just to exit the first building. Also, the game wasn't optimized for new computers at all. The speed of everything is way off. Most unforgivable is the lack of the original manual. What am I supposed to do with if I don't have a manual? Forget the mechanics and game play, the stupid thing still has old school manual based copy protection that asks for something from the manual. I don't remember how I came to own this, but the thought that I might have paid more than nothing for it now angers me.
So old of a game. I personally didn't enjoy it.
I can see why someone could enjoy it a bit back in the day, but nowadays it is a very dated game and the gameplay doesn't seem interesting enough to balance it out. Not only it lacks a lot of quality of life features, but also has uninteresting gameplay mechanics, including combat, simple dialogues and areas are large and confusing (unnecessarily as they are mostly without content) while there is no map so you have to map everything yourself. Quests are generic and have little dialogues as well. Perhaps if you have played it in 90s and are nostalgic I can see why you would want to replay it, but otherwise I can't really recommend it.
Tags: 1PD - First Person Dungeon Crawl Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Mistake purchase. Offbrand lower quality ultima game with paper manual DRM, obscure keybinds and primitive everything. The cost of entry to get into this game is fairly high, and the only other review on Store at time of writing is from a positive review that says you have to edit game files to even beat the game. I should have been more careful about my purchases. I would play Dark Scavenger, the Remake of Bard's Tale or any of the Avernum/Geneforge games before ever touching this again. https://store.steampowered.com/app/691830/Avernum_3_Ruined_World/
game text was bigger than UI box for some reason meaning it would cut off.
Good RPG game. Nice sounds. You can fight a lot.
年代久远,内容说实话都不如当今RPG maker 做的
