Glory Hunters

This is one of those perfect indie games that make a lot of sense to play in portable devices. I'm amazed by the amount of content this game has considering that it was created with "old school" technology based on the classic GameBoy games. You get way more than expected for the price paid and if you are a solid collector you can spend dozens of hours getting as many achievements as possible. Exploring and grinding achievemnts is a novelty for games during the time of the GameBoy and Glory Hunters achieves both solid gameplay and novelty with grace and without sacrificing fun or story. The fantasy of seeking glory is very well developed as a fantasy tale within this game and despite the obvious inspiration most of the game feels fresh, original and fun. Graphics are very cute, fantasy based and a solid 10 out of 10 for the time and limitations the GameBoy era had. Surprisinglye the game also excells with its music which I was not expecting. I honestly believe this game left no stone unturned. Its an experience you must play in order to fully appreciate the work. Finally, try to get a 90s kid mindset while playing this.. you won't stop being amazed if you do that. As a fellow glory hunter, I wish you all find the strenght to achieve honor, justice, respect and perseverance in your quest to find glory, specially if you play in hardcore mode. Glory Hunters really surprised me with how creative it feels. The whole idea of progressing through achievements instead of the usual quests or grinding makes the game stand out. It pushes you to explore and try different things, and that keeps the experience fresh every time you play. Visually, the game has a lot of charm. The pixel art is simple but full of personality, characters look expressive, and the environments feel alive with little details that make you want to keep moving forward. I especially liked how each area has its own vibe, from forests to towns, and how the retro style still manages to feel modern and stylish. The soundtrack adds to that atmosphere, with catchy tunes that stick in your head and make the adventure more immersive. Overall, Glory Hunters is a fun mix of nostalgia and new ideas. It looks great, plays well, and has a unique progression system. If you enjoy retro style games with a twist, this one is definitely worth checking out.

Glory Hunters is exactly what you want a GB zelda-like to be: - awesome 8 bit art and music - accessible PC features - epic map with lots of secrets to find and things to do - funny dialogue and charming NPC's and most of all, lots of heart!

Do not be baited by the nostalgic look, this plays like NONE of the jank-ass games of yesteryear. I appreciate the concept but the onboarding is terrible - if you're going to play this play it on the easy mode as the normal mode appears to have even less respect for your time as a player. The controls are incredibly clunky and stodgy, you can only move orthogonally. Your attacks are airy and the game cannot decide if they have hitstun or not. You get three hits, but on normal mode you can only heal in towns, and that's only if you spend currency to heal that you have to grind for, and the drop rate is slow low enough that you're going to walk into a screen, slash, then walk off again. Even worse, this game doesn't obey using the gb rules because you're pushing multiple buttons to pull up additional menus. Why does right shift pull up my health bar? Why can't I pull that menu up when I hit start or select? Baffling choices that don't match the era and don't match the tough as nails attitude either. -Usually- grinding occurs because the next task is not clear, so one performs a task inefficiently to get something done. Maybe the game respects your time later on but I'm not going to stick around and find out. Another good early game sign is the game has you perform a minigame that you can neither practice, nor does it indicate what button you are supposed to be pushing. I have patience for jank, I don't have patience for this. The writing seems promising, the setting has something going for it, but the lede is buried under very underwhelming gameplay. You get your first glory point slashing bushes, and then the game cuts you loose and you realize you can only gain another when you've ground out killing 5 of an enemy, but this requires just going in and out of a room over and over rather than organically exploring anything. Perhaps I got another point by repeatedly killing bushes, but the message did not state if you got another, and for the life of me none of the menus showed how many glory points I even had. I don't like being a hater for no reason just something about touching this game made me angry because it was clearly chosen to work with real limitations and then the devs just chose to overbloat the game and UI while making the moment to moment gameplay unsatisfying.

Glory Hunters is the perfect fit for anyone looking for their fix of retro gaming. Inspired on classic GB games, Glory hunters feels like a trip to the past in a good way. A mix of old and new that keeps you looking for more ways to get glory points to progress the story, explore new areas and meet charming characters along the way. If you are a fan of classic games and looking for something new to play dont hesitate to give Glory hunters a shot.

Tasks can be pretty repetitive but if you're a sicko who finds grinding achievements fun like me you'll probably enjoy this game. Some are kinda absurd though. Good luck to anybody going for 100%. I'm satisfied with just getting the good ending. Also don't call the maze's bluff. They aren't kiddin.

I fell in love with the whole concept ever since I started folllwing this game's discord channel. If you grew up loving the classic handheld consoles of the late '80s and especially the '90s, get ready to feel that familiar magic again. This game perfectly captures that glorious retro aesthetic—the graphics, the sounds, the vibes—but it adds a level of emotional depth and creative innovation that feels completely modern. This game is pure creativity shining brightly within its limits (classic handheld console gameplay and graphics), and that's glory in itself! Glory Hunters has a genius core mechanic, it turns the concept of achievements into the main currency of progression (called "Glory Points"). This is absolute genius. Want to open a new path? You have to earn it. If you are a completionist, hunt down every secret and puzzle. If you are hardcore, choose that difficulty and prove your might against each unique boss. If you are the explorer kind, focus on gathering and quests! Literally, almost every action grants you glory, making the game feel constantly rewarding and giving you total freedom to build your own unique adventure. You get to choose your challenge and your path forward! Also, the dev has expanded the world and the conversation in its Discord channel and Social Media accounts with seasonal events happening without the need of updating the game. There's easter eggs, secrets and hints spread all over the world without you knowing it and you can discover them and know how to find them on 2think design studio's Instagram account. This is a very clever and unique way of expanding the limits of a retro-style game and its replay value. Also, the world is filled with amazing sound and beautiful music. The audio design and music are a key ingredient in this masterpiece. The soundtrack, by Rodrigo Núñez Cuétara and Nordés, is a genius composition that features 8-bit tracks within the game (tunes that just get you going and makes you want to earn those glory points even more badly), and you can also enjoy listening to these same tracks in stunning instrumental versions featuring acoustic and real medieval instruments (and orchestral arrangements) on streaming platforms. Seriously, look it up—it’s incredibly good. It’s an innovative, sonic journey that perfectly matches the game’s heart. When I first started playing it, the world of Glorianta made me discover a breathtaking collision of innovative lore, unforgettable characters, creative bosses, and a cozy sense of nostalgia that reminds you of those epic, limitless worlds you explored as a kid. The more you play, the bigger the world seems to get! This game is unique, polished, and an absolute must-have for any action-adventure/retro fan. It's something you truly haven't seen before. Don't just chase glory; become a Glory Hunter! I absolutely recommend this game! You won't regret it.

Glory Hunters is a great example of what can be achieved when there’s real passion for classic video games. From the very first minute, you can feel the love for the Game Boy era: retro-style visuals, chiptune music, and immediate, responsive gameplay that takes you straight back to the 90s, but with a modern design touch. The game manages to do something quite difficult: it stays true to the limitations of the original hardware without ever feeling limited. The controls are precise, the pacing is dynamic, and the progression feels natural, always making you want to play just a bit more. On top of that, the visual style has a lot of personality and never feels like a simple imitation, but a title with its own identity within the retro scene. You can clearly tell how much work and dedication went into this project. Glory Hunters is a little gem for fans of classic games and also a great entry point for anyone who wants to experience what games felt like back in the day, but with a modern twist. Highly recommended for Game Boy fans and indie game lovers.

This game is a lot of fun, I've played the demos and the GB Rom to some length, if your a fan of Zelda like games this one is for you, if your a fan of older adventure games this is for you, if you like sprites and old style visuals this is for you, if you like or hunt achievements this game is for you. Something to note is that the developer is heavily involved in this and has invested a lot of time into it, they are active within the Glory Hunters Discord and you can feel the passion from them. I am very much looking forward to diving deep into Glory Hunters and perhaps even going for 100% For the Glory!
