Cyberpunk Girls is a small, experimental indie game from Romantic Room that combines top-down shooting with visual novel storytelling and a heavy dose of neon-drenched style. Set in the futuristic city of Oplot in the year 2169, the game positions itself as both an action shooter and a character-driven story, with romance elements layered in to give the chaos some emotional texture. It is not a conventional cyberpunk experience in the vein of sprawling RPGs; instead, it focuses on bite-sized combat encounters punctuated by dialogue and narrative interludes that highlight the lives of the women at the center of the story. This unusual structure sets it apart, though it also creates an experience that feels fragmented, with sudden shifts in tone between the violent firefights and the softer personal moments. The combat side of Cyberpunk Girls is simple, fast, and intentionally exaggerated. It plays out like a stripped-down arcade shooter: you face waves of enemies, pick up futuristic weapons, and blast through encounters that rely more on reflexes and persistence than on elaborate strategies. Battles are quick bursts of action, filled with bright effects and plenty of blood, giving the game a deliberately “brutal” edge. While the shooting is serviceable and has enough flash to be satisfying in short sessions, it lacks the mechanical depth of more refined twin-stick or roguelite shooters. The thrill comes more from the sheer chaos and flashy presentation than from discovering complex systems or tactics. Outside of combat, the game leans into its narrative ambitions. Short story segments play out in a visual novel format, with character portraits, dialogue choices, and occasional moments of intimacy or melodrama. The most prominent arc revolves around Elsa, a central figure whose story tries to anchor the larger action. These sequences add personality and attempt to humanize the otherwise faceless violence, but they can also feel disconnected from the gameplay. The jump from heavy gunfire to tender exchanges is abrupt, and whether that tonal clash is amusing or jarring depends on the player. For those who appreciate campy storytelling, the combination of earnest romance and pulp-style action may be endearing; for others, it might come across as uneven. The presentation reflects the same blend of influences. In combat, the top-down arenas are clear and colorful, with enough neon detail to sell the cyberpunk setting without overwhelming visibility. The character artwork in the narrative segments is anime-tinged and designed to catch the eye, especially given the game’s emphasis on adult themes. Sound design is energetic, with pounding music and loud weapon effects during firefights contrasted by quieter, more atmospheric tracks in story sections. The result is a game that prioritizes mood over polish—there are moments of style and flair, but also transitions and UI elements that feel rough around the edges. Content warnings are worth noting, as the game leans heavily into mature territory. Expect explicit violence, blood, and sexual themes woven into both the action and the narrative. This focus narrows the game’s audience, but for players who are comfortable with such content, it adds to the pulpy, grindhouse-style personality. Community reception on Steam has been mixed, with some players praising the novelty of its concept and others criticizing the repetitive combat, abrupt storytelling shifts, and limited replay value. It is very much a niche title, appealing more to those who enjoy quirky, experimental indies than to players looking for a polished mainstream experience. As a complete package, Cyberpunk Girls is best understood as a curiosity rather than a centerpiece of anyone’s library. Its short runtime and modest scope make it something you dip into rather than sink dozens of hours into. The value comes from its oddball mixture of genres, its unapologetically mature tone, and its willingness to throw arcade shooting and romance together without worrying too much about coherence. For players who like discovering strange, low-budget projects that try unconventional blends, there is entertainment to be found here. For those looking for depth, balance, or polish, it will likely feel shallow and inconsistent. Ultimately, Cyberpunk Girls succeeds as a bold experiment in style and genre mixing, even if its execution is uneven and its appeal limited to a very specific crowd. Rating: 6/10
Let's goo00. Another good 18+ game in my collection
What can I say about this game? $2 for it is cheap. Of course there are some small nuances, but overall it's excellent)
