About

Starts as Boggle, ends as Schrödinger - Cursed Words is a roguelike adventure about writing words... for a while…until words become NUM83R5, or ♔♘♙, or the infinite void.
Each run is shaped by four pillars: your Character, your Sticker upgrades, your Stamp loadout and the consumable Tiles you bring into each fight. Every attempt becomes its own cursed experiment.
In Cursed Words you build powerful synergies using Stamps and Stickers, face tricky boss encounters and push your score higher with every stage. A base level run features five stages, each one with two encounters and a boss. Beat Stage 5 to win the run, then take on special Challenges and Crown difficulty tiers that redefine the rules and push your creativity.

Blaze a path through cursed bosses and uncover secret items and challenges that completely change the way the game is played. How about all consonants? Maybe all vowels? How about no letters at all?
A whopping 300 stickers and stamps to boost your scores and break the game
11 characters with dramatically different playstyles
20 bosses that’ll try to sabotage your runs, or can be manipulated into multiplying your score even higher
26 unique challenges that completely change the rules of the game

And if all that wasn't enough, mastering each Character's Pin and playstyle is only the beginning. You can prove it wasn't just a fluke by taking on the Challenge Crowns, where Score Targets are bigger, Shops are more expensive, and you'll have to really break the rules if you want to succeed; or you can take on Quests, specific modifiers to the game's rules that will really put your skills to the test...

I thought I disliked the roguelike genre, apparently I just hadn't found the right one. Sorry, I meant I t?o⅘g7t I d♞s⅗i♟e⅞ t♜e r?g⅘e♞i♕e g?n⅘e, a?p⅘r♞n7l? I ju2♟ h?⅘n'7 f?u♘d t♜e r♞⅘h7 o♔e.
This game is super well made and cute, but it quickly becomes a game of "how many wilds can i string together in a row?" and then the game tells you the word you made. It makes it a lot less interesting gameplay wise and I got bored. I bought it after trying the first character in the demo but all of the different wild types made me like it less. I kind of wish you had to say what letter the wild is, like the blank tiles in scrabble.
Actually a very solid and original roguelike crossword/word search puzzle in the spirit of Balatro. Significantly underrated, a bit on the easy side outside of challenges, but very fun nonetheless. The game does requires English fluency at minimum to be played properly, which is probably part of its lower player/review count. There is also Spanish, German and French languages, but they are not the intended experience and will likely have balance and functionality issues. By design the game does not punish you for not having an extensive vocabulary as you can just try combinations until you have a valid word, although linguistic skills ARE rewarded. The way the game evolves as you unlock more content is really cool and interesting, it adds a lot to the gameplay and quickly becomes amusing chaos where it's less about words or letters, and more about a monstrous amalgation of several table games, while never fully losing the word game aspect. Just don't expect it to remain some kind of tame scrabble. Some people will complain about diluted pools, but that is a rather asinine criticism as the game feels way more balanced when it has more content, and games are meant to get harder the futher you progress through them, aren't they? The game feels how it should feel when the pool is bigger. The early game state is the game with the training wheels on, not understanding that is having it backward. Otherwise there are already some very abusable strategies that become way too consistent compared to others. Some people expect that out of a roguelike, that's missing the entire point of the genre. And even then there are a few items that help with the economy/rerolls, very generous shop refreshes on top of the shop having a bias for items that fit your build, which at that point if you still have an issue with the item pool... it's either a skill issue or the RNG gods having it out for you, sorry.
Characters are cute, but quickly become annoying, though you can mute them in the options, I think. Bought this because I love playing Boggle and I saw them playing it on Game Grumps. Way more complicated than I wanted. Don't miss any explanations about the rules; you can't look them up in-game if you do, I was scratching my head about the numbers showing up after I either went to fast or didn't parse the explanation. You'll either have to turn to a guide or replay everything up till that point. Once the numbers got involved, this game lost me. They're not lying; "the words don't matter." So if they matter to you, don't bother. Too late to refund, but I won't play this again.
The best Balatro-like I've seen. It's an endless font of fun and surprising interactions that still maintains a certain Boggle-like character while not requiring too much word knowledge. Just don't spend too long searching each grid for the perfect word.
As I'm sure many other reviews have stated, this game is very much like Balatro, but Boggle/Scrabble instead of Poker. I am so happy I decided to grab it because it has been such a fun game. I like how you progress through unlocking different curses rather than just having everything thrown at you all at once. I've had several runs where my words were almost the entire grid, and I was just waiting to see what the game decided to tell me I'd actually said. It's a great game to just play a run or two to give your brain a break between other things!
Now you too can learn how to spell Q??4?♜S? E: There is, unfortunately, a light hissing / breathing noise that you have totally mute the otherwise good sound effects to get rid of, it's not great on headphones
