About

Starts as Boggle, ends as Schrödinger - Cursed Words is a roguelike adventure about writing words... for a while…until words become NUM83R5, or ♔♘♙, or the infinite void.
Each run is shaped by four pillars: your Character, your Sticker upgrades, your Stamp loadout and the consumable Tiles you bring into each fight. Every attempt becomes its own cursed experiment.
In Cursed Words you build powerful synergies using Stamps and Stickers, face tricky boss encounters and push your score higher with every stage. A base level run features five stages, each one with two encounters and a boss. Beat Stage 5 to win the run, then take on special Challenges and Crown difficulty tiers that redefine the rules and push your creativity.

Blaze a path through cursed bosses and uncover secret items and challenges that completely change the way the game is played. How about all consonants? Maybe all vowels? How about no letters at all?
A whopping 300 stickers and stamps to boost your scores and break the game
11 characters with dramatically different playstyles
20 bosses that’ll try to sabotage your runs, or can be manipulated into multiplying your score even higher
26 unique challenges that completely change the rules of the game

And if all that wasn't enough, mastering each Character's Pin and playstyle is only the beginning. You can prove it wasn't just a fluke by taking on the Challenge Crowns, where Score Targets are bigger, Shops are more expensive, and you'll have to really break the rules if you want to succeed; or you can take on Quests, specific modifiers to the game's rules that will really put your skills to the test...

You can generally tell how good a Roguelite is by how psychotic you sound while describing it. This is a wordsearch style game where you can use a knight to take a queen to take the number 3 to get a three of a kind to spell the word Duck. It is extremely good and relentlessly addictive, a masterwork of taking rules and then breaking them into little pieces so you can rearrange them into something glorious.
160 hours to 100% it, felt like 30. I want more. The absurdity of end game build felt like the score counter would blind me, I loved it.

Maybe i'm too dumb or haven't had enough experience with whatever the tiles are referencing, but I can't play this without guessing with any non letter tile. The first two characters were fun, but after that I've just kind of lost interest out of frustration. Can't recommend for fellow country bumpkins.
A very fun take on a Balatro-style roguelite. Some very creative ways of playing with a regular word search game. The art is really cute (and I'm personally glad it doesn't seem to lean into the CRT aesthetic so many other games in this genre seem to have done), My biggest critique is it's shockingly big in terms of file size for what it is (5.8 GB), and is rather slow to load, both on my pretty top-notch gaming PC and my steam deck.
just got to the credits!!! wonderful game!! very silly vibes and characters and really interesting and fun gameplay!! all the different mechanics slowly shaping up and making me view the board less as words but like.
number sequences
. or as a series of
chess moves
. it's so cool!!
The year is not over yet, but I already know my 2026 GOTY: a roguelike word game that uses a very loose definition of "word". This game is simply full of joy and was clearly made with lots of care. The cartoony character design is delightful and there's just so much content - I feel like the devs could have released this game with half as much of everything and it would still be great - but they still gave us multiple characters to unlock (each one of them with their own, often pretty crazy, gimmick), plenty of challenges, a ton of stickers and stamps that let you create endless fun builds and synergies, and also some secrets to discover. And there's no unnecessary handholding - you just organically discover how things work. This is the first time since my childhood that I've experienced so much sense of wonder while playing a video game. This review is kinda sappy (sorry!) but I assure you that the game isn't - it's creative and hilarious. Go and create some cursed words, you won't regret it. At the time of me writing this review Cursed Words has a free demo available - I really recommend checking it out. It's quite long... but it still ends before things get really crazy :)
I thought I disliked the roguelike genre, apparently I just hadn't found the right one. Sorry, I meant I t?o⅘g7t I d♞s⅗i♟e⅞ t♜e r?g⅘e♞i♕e g?n⅘e, a?p⅘r♞n7l? I ju2♟ h?⅘n'7 f?u♘d t♜e r♞⅘h7 o♔e.
This game is super well made and cute, but it quickly becomes a game of "how many wilds can i string together in a row?" and then the game tells you the word you made. It makes it a lot less interesting gameplay wise and I got bored. I bought it after trying the first character in the demo but all of the different wild types made me like it less. I kind of wish you had to say what letter the wild is, like the blank tiles in scrabble.
Great stuff. Bogglatro.
