About

Build your cult. Spread the mold. Watch the sky bloom with yellow eyes, click to decay beautifully.

Reality is a thin scab over the void.
It festers.
A yellow stain blooms at the edge of your vision.
Alive. Hungry.
It whispers your name in the language of rot.
You obey.

Cult of the Yellow King is a cosmic horror idle game where you command a cult to summon the Yellow King.
With every click, you surrender another fragment of yourself: memory, tongue, flesh. Each prayer gnaws at your humanity.
Each sacrifice bleeds you hollow.
This is not a path to power, it is a descent into beautiful oblivion.

Generators whisper secrets that scar.
Upgrades demand teeth, skin, sanity.
Unlock fragmented tales of dread as you progress.
Each milestone a fresh horror.
Your skin crawls. Walls grow eyes.
The sky bleeds yellow.
Ascend by shattering your progress.
Choose an elder curse. Begin again, deeper in devotion.

Black metal dirges by Merhum.
Hymns for the end of reason.
The mold has rooted in your throat.
The stars blink shut.
He approaches…
Click, and let the beautiful decay consume you.

I must caution you, DO NOT GET THIS GAME! It is the most EVIL implementation of idle/clicker theory and strategy. The people who came before, know nothing of what they speak. Particularly the negative reviewers. The game was beyond their puny mortal minds. They had not the VISION to understand the subtleties of play, nor the imagination to tear away the veil of sanity that protected their infantile intellects! Children require 'tutorials'. TRUE BELIEVERS, grasp the mechanics quickly - and enjoy the narrative, atmosphere and cosmic horrors that spill forth from their shiny reality windows! TIME IS INDEED A FLAT CIRCLE! And the experience illustrates it to you as you 'grind'- but, you're only 'grinding' if you haven't truly grasped the cosmic knowledge that is constantly fed into your brain tubes and eye holes! Feast upon the SPORES, revel in the maddening COSMIC KNOWLEDGE, and sip the wine of INSIGHTs that constantly flow over and through you as you play this! BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY- PRAY! Learn how to pray, prostrated before the mighty King! More fervently than any Onanistic ritual you may have self-performed ever in your life. SERIOUSLY & FEVERISHLY PRAY - and You Shall Be Rewarded! This is truly a masterpiece in dopamine addiction, 'just one more' mechanics- and tasty fungoid bounties! Would pay double the price I got it for ($2.99)! I look forward to many more journeys amongst the stars, and be made whole and worthy of- THE CULT OF THE YELLOW KING!
I think it's a missed opportunity to not have the final prestige track turn the game from cosmic horror into a dating sim set during the siege of the paris commune
Art and music are great, no complaints. The writing has a huge number of ChatGPT-isms, but not all of it - my guess is it's at least co-authored. The writing isn't bad but once I started keying into the AI verbosity and empty rhetorical flourishes my eyes kinda glazed over. The actual idler/clicker game design is not good. Since I was primed by the writing, I started to think it might have also been largely designed by AI. Even if not, it suffers from similar problems - there's no interplay between different systems, and most of the upgrades "play it safe" as though they were designed without a cohesive vision for the game's progression. There are numerous upgrades that increase one producer's output by 5-10% or give you a flat amount of a resource like 1 or 2 per second - as if to ensure no one thing tips the scales too much in your favor, despite that being the fun part of incremental games. Like, it takes ~90mins of pure idling to get to second prestige with all the available upgrades (not including a very expensive stackable +2 per second, which barely changes the math) and you can obtain those upgrades in like 15 minutes. It's an idle game, sure, but this is a saturated market and there are many other games with more to do or more fun rewards for idling. I appreciate the art and music but the rest just isn't there - it's not fun.
Someone wrote "Came for the Lovecraftian themed clicker. Stayed for the Black Metal." I came because of Black Metal, stayed for Lovecraftian themed clicker. Not a huge idle games fan but definitely both BM and HPL enjoyer. I found the game by accident, played demo, bought full version and I don't regret it. Nothing to fancy when it comes to gameplay but it's dressed very nicely in cosmic horror them which is more than enough for me. Very short, with some bugs but it IS an Early Acccess made by few people for super low price point so everything I would expect at this stage.
// DATA_LOG: Cult of the Yellow King

We follow the Story and their Acts, with an expectation that answers to our riddles, or at the very least, the instructions we are to follow will be revealed with time. We therefore go forward willingly, not marching towards a payoff or our inevitable endings, but one that will see us consumed in the name of something so grand, so final as the end and beginning entwined. The Mold beckons our every thought. Our every desire and moment. And in this, we exist for him.

What we have within Cult of the Yellow King will confuse many. It'll have them leave reviews revealing that they perhaps didn't know what they were in for. I, too, did not know what I was in for, but that slowly gave way as the story unfolded before me. If you're creative, have an active imagination and enjoy storytelling, you should remove your notion of what a game is in the context of this one while exercising the prior. I've thoroughly enjoyed Cult of the Yellow King as a delightful journey into the macabre and I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.

I love anything related to Lovecraftian origins. What could be better than a series of short stories that inspired Lovecraft? The book titled "The King in Yellow" by Robert W. Chambers. I love clicker games and have loved them since well, they say Cookie Clicker was the original, but I played others before that. The music in this game could bother you if you're not into heavy metal. I love all sorts of music, so it did not bother me. I would suggest some thematic royalty-free ambient horror music for this from "Dark Fantasy Studio." They have quite a lot of looping music that would fit the game beautifully. I turned the music off and threw on some tracks from various bundles of royalty-free music I got from Humble Bundle for game development. Some fit very well. The game itself has lots of potential and I adore that it has no instructions. While I want to game to sell well cause I adore it, the fact you don't know what to do at the very beginning is fundamental to the whole aspect of "The King in Yellow" and well, this Cult of the Yellow King. A lot of people are putting negative reviews here, on a three quid game that is in early access. I hope people understand what EARLY ACCESS is. It means, you are paying for early access. The game isn't finished. It could NEVER be finished. That's the gamble you take. So, if you are expecting a finished game, don't purchase EARLY ACCESS games. From my perspective, that is obvious, but gaming doesn't only attract those who have the basic grasp of critical thinking. So, ignore the negative reviews. I stopped writing reviews for a while. The fact I decided this needed one, shows how much I adore the very concept of this game existing and how much I want it to succeed. As always, I allow comments, so roast me if you want. It doesn't matter, this game is amazing. Pray fervently.
I'd rebuy it just for the soundtrack alone.
Cute little idle game. Music shreds tbh.
It's a waiting simulator. Technically you can do a build for active clicking, but why? It's literally just clicking a bunch of times. The lore is cool but the game mechanics are boring. I love idle/incremental games like Melvor Idle or Shell Diver, the former especially also includes a bunch of waiting but they have so many systems with synergies that waiting flies by fast while you plan other stuff out. Waiting is not fun in this game, and you're going to be doing a bunch of it. There are no offline gains either so you need to have the game open while you twiddle your thumbs. Nah, I'd rather do something else.
it's just like the cult i run in real life
