A bit soothing ball run experience. Set in abstract world full of different geometry objects roll the ball through checkpoints to the end. Game is relaxing with simplistic visuals. It might be ok for a single playthrough but most gamers are gonna look for something more.
Pros + Pretty cool concept with extruding meshes + It's free ^\_(o_O)_/^ Cons - Huge and very confusing map with few landmarks and inconsistent checkpoints, hella hard to navigate or understand - Worst part: the camera is rigidly tied to the ball, which itself moves by fixed timestep. To put it simple: while the game itself runs at unlimited FPS (144 on my monitor for instance), it visually looks as if you're playing at 15-20 FPS due to a technical quirk. Please for the love of god make the camera smoothly and "lazily" follow the player ball so that the game becomes butter smooth and nice to play. This is trivial to implement and it will not affect the physics, the platforming, or even the leaderboard times. Until that, it just hurts my eyes too much to play it. I'm keeping the review comments open, someone please kindly let me know if this is ever changed, would love to give this another shot.
Hello, welcome all Chuds, Gamers, and other Nerds. I aim to 100% all the games that catch my eye and join the sea of reviews on this platform. Most will never read this, but I will review the games I find simply and thoroughly. 1 What is "Cubico?" A short 3D platforming game. 2 What does this game play like? The main mechanic of this game is you simply rolling in the direction you wish to go, and jumping over obstacles. The game does have a manipulation mechanic, but that is very jank and acts as the worst part of the game. Simple rankings Story NA/10: This is all game, no story, so none to speak of. Game play 7/10: This game uses simplistic visuals with bright colors and zen music. Unfortunately, two things fail. First and foremost, the manipulation mechanic. The manipulation mechanic allows you to stretch blue material in different directions (mostly intended for you to raise the ground bellow you.) This is a struggle, as normally you only raise one corner, rather than the whole surface. Second, navigation. As you get into the game it opens up, but the map can very easily leave you lost, unsure of where to go. This game is not a bad platformer, but these two mechanics / design decisions show it just isn’t polished. Overall 7/10: A nice little 3D platformer, perfectly fun if you have an hour to kill and nothing else to play.
I'd played this long age when it was on itch.io, and jumped at the chance to add it to my library here. ball-moving games are few, and this one is a fresh addition to the genre (if you could call it one), with it's bright pastel visuals and snappy traversal mechanics. While you can finish the whole game in a single sitting, it leaves you wanting to play it again (which is what I did). A must-play game.
neat game
Ball lovers... is your lucky day Needs bouncing :) Also needs a SAVE. I know this is a speedrunners game, but there is absolute ZERO sense in having a lot of checkpoints, but not allowing me to play in different sessions Very good for free
