I was looking for a game to play with my friends. I quickly tested it solo — so far, the game looks neat, has nice graphics, and seems fun. I’m looking forward to trying it with my friends this weekend.

CTHULOOT is a cooperative arcade adventure that thrives on controlled chaos, blending fast-paced action with a playful take on Lovecraftian themes. Developed by Pixelnest Studio and Headbang Club and published by TyGAMES, the game doesn’t aim to evoke dread in the traditional sense; instead, it transforms cosmic horror into a colorful, frantic playground where teamwork and timing matter far more than fear. The result is a game that feels immediately approachable, yet gains depth through its unpredictable, multiplayer-driven moments. At its core, the experience revolves around navigating trap-filled environments while gathering loot tied to mysterious, otherworldly forces. Each level is designed as a compact challenge space where players must work together to move forward, avoid hazards, and secure as much treasure as possible before things spiral out of control. Movement is quick and responsive, encouraging a sense of urgency as players jump, dodge, and scramble through shifting layouts. The presence of environmental traps—ranging from collapsing platforms to sudden obstacles—keeps the pacing energetic, ensuring that even simple objectives feel tense when multiple players are involved. Success often depends less on individual skill and more on how well the group can coordinate under pressure. What makes CTHULOOT particularly engaging is how it balances cooperation with moments of frantic disarray. While players are technically working toward the same goal, the act of collecting and preserving loot introduces a subtle tension that can lead to chaotic decision-making. One player might rush ahead to grab items while another struggles to keep up, and small mistakes can quickly snowball into larger setbacks. This dynamic gives the game a lively, almost party-like energy, where laughter and frustration coexist in equal measure. It’s in these unscripted interactions that the game truly shines, especially when played with friends who are willing to embrace its unpredictable nature. The progression system adds a layer of motivation without overwhelming the simplicity of the gameplay. As players collect relics and complete levels, they gradually unlock abilities and improvements that make subsequent runs more manageable or open up new strategies. While these upgrades don’t drastically alter the core mechanics, they provide a sense of forward momentum that encourages replaying levels and refining performance. The structure leans heavily into arcade sensibilities, rewarding repetition and mastery rather than narrative advancement. Visually, the game adopts a bright, cartoon-inspired style that contrasts sharply with its Lovecraftian influences. Instead of leaning into darkness and dread, it presents tentacled creatures and eldritch motifs in a way that feels whimsical and accessible. This artistic choice broadens the game’s appeal, making it inviting rather than intimidating. The environments are varied enough to maintain visual interest, with each area introducing new themes and hazards that subtly shift how players approach the challenges. Sound design complements this with energetic cues and feedback that reinforce the fast pace without becoming overwhelming. Despite its strengths, the game does show some limitations over longer play sessions. The core mechanics, while solid, don’t evolve significantly, which can lead to a sense of repetition once players have experienced the majority of level variations. The reliance on cooperative play is also a double-edged sword; while it enhances the experience immensely with a full group, playing solo or with fewer players can make the game feel less dynamic and occasionally unbalanced. Additionally, minor technical hiccups or inconsistencies can interrupt the flow, though they rarely overshadow the overall experience. Ultimately, CTHULOOT succeeds by focusing on what it does best: delivering a chaotic, cooperative experience that is easy to pick up and consistently entertaining in short bursts. It doesn’t aim for deep storytelling or complex systems, instead offering a streamlined gameplay loop that emphasizes interaction, timing, and shared moments. For players looking for a lighthearted multiplayer game with a distinct personality, it provides a satisfying blend of challenge and humor that keeps sessions lively and engaging. Rating: 8/10
Un jeu très cool pour du multi en ligne ou canapé. Testé seulement à 2 pour l'instant, mais hâte de voir le bordel que ça donne à 4 !
A simple yet fun game where you're on a fetch quest for loot to please our lord Cthulhu. It took my wife and me roughly 6.5 hours to go through. It might be a bit more chaotic with four players, but that's part of the fun! In terms of difficulty, it's not too hard, easily suitable for ages 10 and up. The puzzles are straightforward and focus more on testing your speed, dexterity, and teamwork. The gameplay is smooth and responsive. As for the audio, it must be decent, though I didn’t notice it much because I was too busy retrieving loot quickly and efficiently while coordinating with my teammate ,especially on the timed levels. Overall, it’s a great game!
A genuinely very fun game. P.S. Chester my GOAT
A very fun couch-coop game to play with friends.
