VR review. Only played for 1 hour so far, but seems decent so far, but what I was looking for. What's that? (you likely aren't asking)... a old school grid based dungeon crawl to be played seated, in VR, with a gamepad. Maybe not everyone's wish list for a game. But, if it's yours.... then I have found a game for you. It took a few control tweaks (in menu) to get what I wanted, but it does allow for that and works well. After an hour of playing I was enjoying myself, but also thought "wow, I'd love to be playing Eye of the Beholder or Lands of Lore in VR like this". I think that pretty much sums up my review - is it fun to play an old school dungeon crawl in VR? Yes. Does the actual game live up to EOB or LOL? No, but what games do? Importantly, did the devs provide enough options to allow me to play the game how I wanted to? (standing, sitting, tracked controllers, gamepad, etc) YES. And, that's great. and something more developers should do. Thumbs up from me. Happy VR dungeon crawling all,
This game is well-worth your money Crystal Rift is an inspired by classic dungeon games such as Dungeon Master and also has a editor so you do you own levels etc i don`t have a vr so i don`t know what to expect
Cool old-school-style first-person grid-based dungeon crawler, with simple non-RPG gameplay. I can imagine this game wouldn't be interesting enough to many people played on a monitor, but it's really special experienced in VR, especially since this is one of very few games of this type available in VR. This is a nice title to have in your library for when you get tired of standing and moving around in other VR games, because this game is perfect for sitting back and relaxing in your chair with an Xbox controller in your hands.
Unfortunately, the 'mixed' rating is quite accurate: graphics are somewhat nice with neat little touches (like slime in the scratches of the stone) but enemies are weak as hell (they only pose a danger when they spawn endlessly and overrun you) and you attack with the press of a button. No blocking/defense, you have to step back. Some puzzles and traps are just frustrating (for lack of a better word); Youtube did help with that. So, I might recommend this game for the diehard, hardcore, dungeon-crawler fans. But generally: nope.
