Ehh... Not quite what I expected, bot not bad. My expectations were that I would get a more "classic" dungeon crawling experience with character leveling,equipment-collecting and action. These are all where this game falls short of the target. The game is quite atmospheric and it can get a bit spoopy at time so I give it that. The controls respond pretty quickly and there is no major delays. I did have problems with stepping backwards but it might have been my controller acting up. There are no RPG-elements. Absolutely none. No leveling up, no inventory. The only power increase you are getting as you progress through the game are the sword power-ups which gives you a ranged attack and makes it more effective against certain enemy types. That's it. You can collect skulls and statues, and replenish lost lives with red vials (1) or bottles(fills life counter). You also collect gems and keys to open doors. The enemies are the usual unimaginative generic skellingtons and stuff, so nothing new there. Graphically the game is okay if you can put up with the low-polycount enemies and simple, repetitive wall-textures. However it still performs well in its task of creating an atmospheric dungeon. The puzzles are typical for a grid-based dungeon crawler. Pulling levels, shooting projectiles and pushing buttons, and some timed gauntlets/tasks with risk of getting a fireball in the face and such. The biggest letdown I got across is the health-system, or lack thereof. Basically you have "hearts", which are same as your lives. If you get hit by an enemy or fall off into a trap the screen INSTANTLY fades into black and the game plays an "Aaaahh!"-sound with an animation of one of the hearts falling apart. You never even get to see what happened. Then you are teleported a few steps back to the entrance of the room. Enemies do not reset so they have same amount of health when you come back to them. Not exactly immersive. I would have preferred seeing a heart disappear from my HUD when I am hit and carry on playing instead of having my gameplay interrupted. But despite of these shortcomings it is a fairly solid little game. It really could use some extra polish but it has a lot of potential. I'd probably recommend this to an older player who is new to VR and isn't into a frantic gameplay and enjoys an atmospheric game. I'd give this game a 7.5/10. I bought this game on 75% sale for €2,.49, so it was worth my money. I suggest getting it when it is on sale. I didn't encounter many bugs, but I managed to get myself stuck into a room when I was backtracking to look for hidden areas .
The rooms with mummies before stairs down.
Was soll der Quatsch?
Could this game lead to a VR version of Dungeon master, oh i hope so, this game has so much going for it, and by what i have seen so far these devs could make a very good DM VR, so go on, get that Dungeon master VR remake off the ground and running, i certainly will be first in the queue with my cash.
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Xbox One Controller
I'm really surprised by the Mixed review status of this game. This is one of the best, if not the best, classic grid based dungeon crawler in VR. I think people are expecting Skyrim or maybe Vanishing Realms, but those are not classic dungeon crawlers. How can you expect swinging your arms or pulling a bow or roomscale movement when none of those things make for a retro experience. I kind of wish the dev just did away with motion controllers and made this either a gamepad or keyboard & mouse experience excusively (BTW, Touch controls do not work on the Steam version just the Oculus version as a gamepad ... and you get a free key on Oculus for buying on Steam so buy it on Steam!). Regardless of your control scheme, I recommend turning on smooth turning in the options menu. The one place where this game truly shines is the graphics and the attention to detail to the classic genre. It's like the old classic dungeon crawlers you remember, only with improved, gorgeous HD graphics. I strongly recommend changing settings and allowing for the extreme horror experience, especially if you are a horror fan! The game ran smoothly for me and I experienced zero bugs. So I read the negative reviews and most of them complain about the combat. Do they not know what classic dungeon crawlers were like. In fact, this game probably has a more complex system than most classic ones, especially because you can see the animations pretty well. So you have to avoid damage. That's it. Pretty simple. People complain about getting hit and having to restart a very short distance away. It doesn't matter, it's a matter of a few steps and the enemy retains the damage you gave to them. So it doesn't completely reset the fight. As any Dark Souls fan will tell you, Git Gud! Another complaint is the movement. Again, it's grid-based. Actually, this game movements/controls are better than any classic dungeon crawler I ever played. So yeah it's not as responsive as Dark Souls. Okay? So? I had no problems beating enemies or getting within melee distance and then avoiding damage by stepping back. What's the problem? You want this game to be something different than what it sets out to be. It's a classic dungeon crawler for VR. Each level has a theme. So even though you're walking down corridors, every level looks and feels different. Each progressive level brings a new challenge. There's traps, hidden doors, and your sword gains new abilities. My biggest complaint of the game is that there isn't a whole lot of loot to get. You rarely get loot. You're mostly get health potions or keys or some needed item to progress. You're stuck with your sword, even though it does gain new abilities. The game is about 10 hours long. So you're geting a lot of bang for your buck here. Rate 7.5/10. Is there a better grid based classic dungeon crawler in VR? Leave me a comment if you can think of one that's better. I think Kryptcrawler is probably the closest one and they are about even in my opinion.
Not quite what I expected - on the trailer and the pics it looks great! The graphics is amazing, don't get me wrong, but the controls are squishy (like your character, dies on one hit but you need to kill enemies with 2 or more, realism isn't everything and I still wanna know I am playing a game), the indicators onscreen are for a controller not a keyboard, the menu glitches often - doesn't allow me to resume the game. Worst of all is there is a spelling mistake in the menu. Love the graphics, love the atmosphere, love the music - but it needs a little TLC.
this game is awesome
So, as a baseline for FP dungeon crawling on the VR platform, Crystal Rift hits many of the same notes Ultima Underworld did on the PC platform decades ago! Sure I turned my head at the wrong moment & dropped into a pit or got womped by a lava golem, but I took my time, gpt my whacks in and came out on the right side of some battles of wits, ran from dual skeletal baddies but felt immersed with a great sense of place. Old-school style that let me have a great time! Great job!
(vr) оч понравилась, простенькая боевка, но затягивает на часы, почему то ассоциации с принцом персии не сеге. тем более что купил за 25 на распродаже
Despite some quirkyness it's ok for what it is. Simple grid based movement dungeon crawler that feels ok on Vive. With some simple puzzles thrown in. Seems like currently it is the only grid-movement Vive crawler so hard not to recommend.
