Having finished it I can say for certain this is one of the worst things I have ever played. I don't recommend anyone plays this except to use as a showcase of how not to do game design. It's not even soo bad that it's good, the whole thing is just a chore to get through.
Sometimes you just can't stop me. I was genuinely excited for Crying is not Enough over the last couple of years. I knew I was going to buy it. I talked to my pastor about the decision over a cup of the lord's VSOP Brandy. Though the man of Christ told me, "This is a bad idea my son," he knew damn well that I wasn't listening. Don't get me wrong, I can certainly do some "hide in the locker from the school bully who wants to give you a wedgie and steal your pizza money" horror games but when you show me screenshots of any 3rd person creepy shenanigans where I get a gun to my to defend myself, well...refer to the opening line..."sometimes you just can't stop me (I might add that this should be one of the loading screen quotes of this game, Crying is not Enough loves a good loading screen quote)." Though it's not often I'll preview a Youtuber playing a game before buying it myself, I heard so much trash talk about CINE that I decided to just get a further taste and watch CJU muster what he could of this beast for a 50 minute video. I remember my mind letting out with a resounding, "Wow, that looks like CRAP," before double-checking my wishlist to make sure I didn't forget to add it. I dallied a bit because I was having financial trouble at the time and eventually made my purchase for a $1.99. By the time I finally got around to playing it in 2021, it had long since been remastered. What I found wasn't the absolute garbage many said. Nor were amusing glitches dancing in the candlelight shadows. No sir, gals and guys, what I found was the most completely average 3rd person horror game ever made. If horror games love that "everyman" trope, CINE is that horror cliche brought to full breathing life. I haven't finished it yet but I'm getting close, so I've got enough ammunition to drop some poetic justice. I won't focus on plot much with this review. Here it is in a nutshell; you play as the horribly rendered Jake who finds out his sick wife was cured in the hospital and instead of coming home to your loving arms she mysteriously disappeared. While chatting with her doctor, some horribly rendered old bag tells you she can help you find your wife, as you willingly board a helicopter with her to a strange fog shrouded island, crash on it because your choppa was rigged with a bomb and then wisely go your separate ways. Since solidarity of numbers is a bad idea. She gives Jake a gun though, the game gives you no direction and you're off. I can almost imagine that the devs (who honestly, they put some passion into this, enough that they just didn't abandon the game and worked long after to make it as playable as it can be with the remaster) originally had an open world concept for this. Heck, the outside areas are so open that you can literally zig zag runaround an entire pack of enemies and nary have to fight but a few of them, if that's your decision. They'll give chase for a while but due to a lack of any kind of stamina system, you can get through this as a pacifist 60s flowerchild if you want. Me...I'm a fightin' man. I've died twice so far. Once early on when a pick-axer pinned me into a corner and the second time on the heavy hittin' flamerthrower boss. My first death came before I really sat down and mastered Cubica; CINE's game within a game. It's a little arcade gem with addicting music located inside the save system (which is also an arcade machine). The better you get at Cubica, you can practically earn a bunker's worth of ammunition for Jake's limited arsenal. As I have progressed in the main story, I walk into every area with confidence. I'll punch enemies just for fun just to let 'em know I can before spraying them with pistol rounds and shotgun spread. Even as I enter the last 1/4 or so of CINE, I have at least 80 shots in my pistol and 40 in my shotgun. And I'll still throw a punch just to let 'em know I own the block. Combat is basic but serviceable. It's nothing special though it is truly not the trainwreck I expected. I'm kind of having the simplest of 90s thrills you can get out of it. 2 guns, your fists and a radio that emits a blast that you can recharge with batteries that'll stun the uglies. Even if you decided to try a run of the game using little ammo to make it harder, there's a chance you can outrun them all. What adds to the hilarity is each monster does a WWF-esque pose and a growl before pursuing you, so you can leave them in the dust while they cut a promo. For such a big island to explore though, there could have been many more foes or even tightly quartered and tense indoor sections in the buildings you explore by throwing more of the tougher beasties at you more frequently. There's no harder difficulty, so this is what you get whether you want it or not. I'm forcing myself to fight though to get as many thrills out of my playthrough as possible. What you're going to be doing most of the time is running around on huge fetch quests. The biggest and most mundane knock-offs of Resident Evil and Silent Hill you'll ever come across. On paper they are not the problem. I like horror games, so I like that kind of stuff even when the execution is painfully average and even a touch tedious. In CINE, these segments involve finding an item on one end of the island only to finally discover that you need to manually walk allllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the way to the other end of the place to use it. You are given very little clues as what to do but the fact is that even on a pretty big game map, the amount of object interactions that you can perform are so scant that you'll eventually trial and error your way through it. In that respect, for long periods of time if you're a mean s.o.b. like me that wipes out enemies like the Orkin man blows away pests, you're going to be traversing an empty land where you are Lord, King and Court. Non enemy character models look and animate terribly, as if I needed to tell you. Although the Evil Within-esque monsters are totally fine for an indie job. On the better side of the graphics, I actually enjoyed the fog, rain and lighting effects. In fact the atmosphere of the overall island and its facilities do have moments where they look pretty good. I've seen far, far worse. Those environmental aspects were a big draw when I first saw screenshots of the game and after playing through most of it, I still don't think they're bad. There's some bits of screen tearing from time to time but I haven't had to deal with any graphical glitches that got me stuck. Sound is unspectacular but again environmental sounds are pretty well-done and the silly monster growls were kind of endearing. The voice-acting stinks and I hear people didn't get paid, so none of that is cool on any level. So the end verdict here from me would be a 3.5 or solid 4 out of 10. It's not a 0 or 1 total piece of trash. There is something here but absolutely not $20 worth. The simplistic combat, some of the exploration, atmospheres, etc. are worth a bit of merit. I also do have applause for anyone making a game and these 2 devs actually making sure you could complete it without glitches (as well as a ton of other things they added) shows a dedication that most fly by nights couldn't be bothered with. They went all in on a bad situation by remastering it. Edit: A 0 or a 1 to me is trash like GD Nomad makes (I bought White Mirror on accident long before I ever learned of his legend as a dev), Epsilon Corps, the unfortunately could have been good Dark Matter... CINE is unfortunately a disappointing release that is outclassed by nearly every 3rd person horror. Nothing more, nothing less. Now get outta my way, 'cause I'm gonna beat this damn game today!

Indie survival horror with a lot of flaws. I would maybe give a neutral rating if I could, but I can't, so I have to give a negative one sadly. The game is really just a 5 or 6 ouf of 10 for me. So what are the problems it has: -way too many and way too long empty corridors to walk through, especially in the woods -the game quickly opens up and has simply way too big areas -but even worse you have to do SO MUCH backtracking in this game, especially later in the game -I don't really mind the gunplay, BUT there are just 2 weapons in the game! a pistol which you start with and a shotgun -and the enemy variety is also not great: there is the regular "zombie" with low health but is quite fast; then there is very slow one but it has SO MUCH HEALTH like you need 10 shotgun shells to kill it, which is so much and not worth at all (except once where you have to kill one of those as a miniboss i guess) which means you have to outrun those every time; then is an enemy which can explode itself which is so easy to beat, you just use your radio which you find quite early in the game which stuns enemies and which will also make that guy explode after a few seconds, so just stay away and you delt with him; and lastly later in the game you find another enemy which does look different but gameplaywise it's not that different to the regular zombies -especially in the big areas I mentioned before you can (and should) just run past every single enemy! You run faster than them, you don't run out of stamina and they loose aggro pretty fast. This is just stupid. -the game is almost impossible to play without a guide: for example at one point you can choose between two major areas, one of them give you the shotgun, the other one has a boss which is basically impossible to beat without the shotgun, so good luck if you did those areas in the wrong order. The game doesn't tell you at all about the order you should do them. Or how about that you usually have no idea where to use the items you find for, it's not intuitive at all, and often you have to use them at the other end of the map, so more backtracking -later on in the game new enemies spawn at older areas plus a boss spawns constantly near you and chases you, Mr.X-like enemies are always annoying in a survival horror game -there is a really crappy minigame which you can play before saving but you have to play it as it gives ammo -you find a lot of useless healing items because you often need to combine two items to get a health item, well one of those parts is super rare and I had at the end of the game like 10 useless parts which I couldn't use because the counterpart is way too rare. But that's not all: there are healing items you find, which do heal you, but also poisons so. Nice. If you are poisoned you constantly loose health and the funny part is I didnd't find a way to get rid of it. There are pills you can use, but those only decrease the poison bar, but you are still poisoned and once it's full again you will again start loosing health till you die. This basically means you can't use those health items and there are also other ways to get poisoned in the game. Well, if that happens you are dead and have to reload a save. This isn't such a big problem as you barely need health items except at that boss I mentioned earlier -bad pacing, and way too many cutscenes, especially there is one near the start of the game which is SO LONG and the cutscenes are really bad. The voice acting is ok at best, but the character models, animations, writing and story are terrible What is good tho: -I mostly like the graphics, well except character models and animations -framerate is usually good, there are a few areas tho where it significantly drops -like I said the gunplay is all right -ammo balance is all right -overall RE-like gameplay is always fun So overall I can only recommend this to die-hard fans of survival horror and even to those you should know what to expect.
A good little game with a good duration (5-6 hours). A lot of back and forth but globally the game is plaisant with an ending ! I have got just one crash during all the game. Take it with a discount it's worth it.
Not a bad game. The controls are a bit tight (especially while running) and there are a few texture bugs. Otherwise (from my point of view), the game is definitely worthy, fans of Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Alan Wake should definitely play the game at least once!
Crying is not enough...you mus also yell, scream, cuss, yawn, fall asleep, punch you computer screen, kick the dog, chew out your momma.....and that's just the beginning. The game boasts that it is "The Best Greek Game of 2018" and an award from Athens. I cant help but wonder two things: 1) did they make up those awards to sell games, or 2) are game makers in Greece really this bad? Really, this is the best a country could produce? Really? I feel sad for Athens, Greece and anyone unfortunate enough to play this game. If your gullible enough to purchase it, I have no sympathy. The 46% approval rating really should scare you away more than anything. The first 20 minutes (not joking) was me running around with no real reason ,a d watching cut-scenes with awful dialogue, and worse animation. The graphics were bad for 2008 which leaves little excuse for it to be this bad in 2018...oh, wait...it was the best Greece and Athens could produce....or WAS it...? The only thing I can say that was good, is these meatbag monsters are kinda creepy, but not enough to make the game playable or even interesting. I'd watch (or make) a horror movie with these kinds of creatures, but .... they don't make up for the abysmal dialogue, horrible animation, and ....I'm not sure I can even call it "game play" because it's so bad. Don't waste your time or money, or you, too will find that Crying is not enough. I give this -30 stars out of 5 possible, and 3,000,000,000,000 barrels of tears... No #Mishaguyas
Looks great, and for the most part plays great too as a 3rd person shooter. It is very atmospheric... BUT it was a HORRIBLE experience, it made me cry. And crying was definitely not enough to save this game. The worst idea the developer had, was towards the end of the game was to replace all the regular enemies positioned on many traverse paths, with some immortal bosses with a chainsaw. This is unforgivable! This made me waste tons of ammo and arcade coins and will to play. Cause was so absurd. Who thinks of this stuff? In the end, I ended without coins or ammo to do the upper and final part of the mansion. Just before entering the final room, a chainsaw guy slashed me up, and I said "that's it. I'm done." Another thing is the extremely convoluted game path the developer had in mind for us. So much backtracking and getting lost over and over. Also worth mentioning is the lack of enemy variety. I was bored with the enemies most of the time. Although the game had a lot of good elements, nothing can save it. The frustration level that the developer had in mind for us is level: perverse. Only a sick mind could have come up with such a convoluted game path. And for most of the puzzle solution I can thank the internet people, because the developer gave us little to no indication on how to solve them... This was close to being a decent game if it was less frustrating and more fun. It felt like a nightmare and in a bad way. However, I didn't want to believe the reviewers without playing it by my own first. Definitely not recommended.
enjoyed this survival horror game, it has its moments, couple small bugs here and there but nothing gamebreaking, and the performance was pretty good with decent graphics except some of the animations and player models were a bit subpar compared to the rest of the graphics. id definitely recommend this game overall if you dont mind some jank mixed in with your horror. Also cubica ruled, make sure you use a controller and not the keyboard when playing, the music rocked and its still stuck in my head.
