Haven't played a title in this franchise for about 5-6 years, had to double check I installed 2021 as the game is pretty much the exact same since 2010. The CC franchise is still good (if you're yet to jump in) but you would be better off trying older titles as they offer an identical experience. Childish things are just taking the mickey out of us now. DEVELOP THE GAME FOR GOODNESS SAKE OR MAKE AN EDITOR!!
First version i've bought in a few years. The game plays very well. Excellent menus. Great to see the animations have been improved and the stats and calendar are fantastic. A wealth of scenarios to get through. Well worth a purchase!
Still the best cricket management sim by an absolute country mile. To make a footballing analogy, this isn't FIFA - it's Championship Manager (but from the good old days when it was just fun and not like a full-time job, drowning in needless complexity). So you won't get flashy graphics, but you will get the most immersive and detailed experience of any cricketing game. Full disclosure: I write the (unofficial) editor for this game, so was given free access to the beta version of the game in order to develop the editor.
The developers don't deserve to continue making money from this game. I've purchased every version since 2014 and every year I try to tell myself the game's getting better.. But it's not. The yellow shading over the buttons is some weird rehash from the early 2000's that looks cheap and tacky. The fact you can't click on the angle you want your bowler to aim for but now have to cycle through the three options? Infuriating. The amount of maidens in the last 10 overs of an ODI chase when you're at high aggression. The unrealistic AI bowling plans. Their refusal to include an editor to open the game up because it would take away the realism factor of the game.... It's a simulator! The whole point of a simulator is to give the user the ability to simulate different scenarios. Looking forward to next years edition though, 'cause the cricket addict in me knows i'll keep buying it.
If you're all about fancy, modern graphics, this cricket game is not for you. If, like Football Manager enthusiasts, the interactivity and realism of the simulation and management is your priority, you will enjoy this. Like Football Manager, it still looks like it belongs in the 2000s. But in a way, that's part of the charm. As a full time worker with a 9mo baby, I don't have time for highlights. Being able to open up my career save and punch out half an hour of matches is a fantastic way to relax. The developers do not have an enormous EA Sports-like team or budget but they have a real commitment to listen to the feedback of their players. Rarely these days do you see developers reading and replying to suggestions, bugs and criticisms on a forum, but many of the changes in this 2021 edition - such as improvements to the T20 engine - have been a direct response to consumer demand. For me, that's an initiative worth supporting annually. Once again, the changes and additions from 2020 are incremental and hardly revolutionary, but for me they are positive. Is it worth AU$36? Maybe only for the die-hards.
Upgraded from Cricket Captain 2020 to 2021 and really hate the new bowling line/length selection functionality. Old one was much better. Game seems slightly smoother from 2020 but gameplay no changes. Just slight UI changes that too the selection buttons changed from curve borders to sharp borders. Really disappointed. First thing I really wish a change is that they change back the bowling line/length selection options back and please literally please change the selection highlight color to something non-yellow.
If you've played other games in the series, it's the same old formula but with more features than before and a fresh coat of paint and polish. If you haven't played CC before, then you're in for a stat-rich sports sim with an immense player base from major domestic competitions around the world and of course a full international fixture.
A great game. I love this series, although if you played CC2020 you wont see huge changes on that. What I do like about the upgrade though is the improvements to the match engine - which is the key to these sports sim games after all. Oh, and I love the format for english county cricket this year :)
People deserves to see atleast graphics changes in the game.Change the kit, make it atleast beautiful to watch. Hope Developers will not just copy paste again(5x already). Gameplay is very less specially in the batting, the only plus is the database this game have, except that nothing worth of mentioning in 2021 game. Haven't changed anything in the last 20 years. In fact they've alos removed world rankings now.The only decent cricket sim out there though, so end up buying it every other year
