Creepy tale 4-
9/10 https://youtu.be/Y8U1UChO1-Y
Creepy Tale: Some Other Place is as good if not slightly better than the other episodes. I think each new game improves a little from its predecessor. Creepy Tale 2 had the most interesting story, but this one has the most pleasant puzzles. The first question I've asked myself before playing it: why is this episode not numbered "4"? Now, I can affirm it should have been called Creepy Tale 4. It follows the same recipe as the others. But like each episode, it's an independent story in the same creepy universe. Playing the previous episodes was never required for any of the Creepy Tale episode. So perhaps they should have never been numbered. But there are always many little references shown in a tactful way: if you have never played other episodes, you won't think you have missed something. In term of narrative content, it's very light, even more so than the previous episode. It's also less bloody or cruel toward its main character. The ambience, atmosphere is still very good. I've always enjoyed this strange nightmarish universe, and its hand drawn art-style. The gameplay is probably the most logical of all Creepy Tale games. There wasn't once where I solved a puzzle without even understanding why. There wasn't unintuitive forced logic that make me stumble for no reason. Overall, it's not a complicated game, it just requires a bit of attention to the clues. Its only real weakness was probably the story. But it's probably because I'm becoming a bit too familiar with the Creepy Tale universe. The sense of mystery and discovery was a little bit lacking in this episode. And other episodes tormented their main character in a better way which made me more invested to survive the adventure. If you have already enjoyed Machinarium, I think this game, or the whole series, is a good alternative.
*Creepy Tale: Some Other Place*, developed and published by Creepy Brothers, is a compact point-and-click adventure that leans into the eerie charm of dark fairy tales, delivering an experience that feels unsettling without ever becoming overwhelming. It builds on a familiar structure—exploration, item interaction, and puzzle-solving—but distinguishes itself through a strong visual identity and a quiet, almost storybook-like approach to storytelling. Rather than overwhelming players with exposition or complex systems, it relies on atmosphere and curiosity to carry the experience forward. The narrative begins with a simple premise: a young boy’s ordinary outing takes an unexpected turn, pulling him into a strange and often threatening world. From there, the story unfolds gradually, not through lengthy dialogue or explicit explanations, but through the environments and encounters themselves. Each area hints at something deeper beneath the surface, encouraging players to piece together meaning from what they observe. This minimalistic approach to storytelling works in the game’s favor, allowing the mystery to feel organic rather than forced, even if some elements remain intentionally ambiguous. Gameplay follows traditional point-and-click design, with players moving through a series of interconnected scenes, collecting items and solving puzzles to progress. The puzzles vary in style, ranging from straightforward interactions to more abstract challenges that require careful observation. Most of them are intuitive enough to keep the experience moving, though there are occasional moments where the logic can feel unclear, leading to brief periods of trial and error. Despite this, the overall flow remains steady, with each solved puzzle providing a sense of progression and discovery. What truly defines *Creepy Tale: Some Other Place* is its atmosphere. The game presents a world that feels both whimsical and unsettling, blending elements of fairy tales with darker undertones. The environments are richly illustrated, with each scene crafted to evoke a specific mood, whether it’s quiet unease or subtle tension. The art style plays a major role in this, using stylized visuals and expressive designs to create a sense of personality in every location. Combined with understated sound design, the game maintains a consistent tone that draws players into its strange world. The pacing reflects its relatively short runtime, with the entire experience designed to be completed in a single sitting or over a few sessions. This brevity helps maintain focus, ensuring that the game does not linger too long on any single idea. However, it also limits how much the narrative and gameplay can evolve. Some concepts and themes feel introduced but not fully explored, leaving a sense that the world could have supported a longer, more developed story. Replayability is modest, as the linear structure offers little variation once the puzzles have been solved. While players may return to revisit the atmosphere or catch details they missed, the primary appeal lies in the initial playthrough. The experience is best appreciated as a contained journey rather than something designed for repeated exploration. Despite its limitations, the game succeeds in delivering a cohesive and memorable experience. Its strength lies in how well its elements work together—visual design, sound, and gameplay all contribute to a unified tone that remains consistent from start to finish. It does not attempt to push the boundaries of the genre, but it refines its core ideas into something polished and engaging. In the end, *Creepy Tale: Some Other Place* is a thoughtfully crafted adventure that prioritizes mood and storytelling over complexity. It offers a short but effective journey into a world that feels both familiar and unsettling, leaving a lasting impression through its atmosphere and design rather than through scale or ambition. Rating: 8/10
