I'm giving this a thumbs up because the ambush-centric combat is as fun as it was in Mutant Year Zero and Miasma Chronicles, the graphics are very nice, and the gritty atmosphere is right up my alley. That being said, you should only buy this if you're a big fan of turn-based tactical games and you've already finished the XCOM games, Mutant Year Zero, Miasma Chronicles, 40k: Chaos Gate: Daemonhunters, Gears Tactics, Showgunners, etc., and you're really itching for a similar game to play. Unfortunately, CORRUPTION 2029 barely has any content in it. It feels unfinished. I'm 8 hours in, and the entire game consists of the same handful of maps that you have to replay over and over again. Enemy placements mostly stay the same, as do the placements of points of interests, turrets, distractions, and other features you can interact with during the mission. The new enemies and weapons/abilities being introduced don't do enough to offset this problem. I can accept that the budget didn't allow for more maps, but why not at least have different enemy placements and patrol routes from mission to mission? How about a mission where you have to deal with a large number of weak enemies, or one where all of the enemies have complex patrol patterns that make avoiding combat really hard? Or one where the enemies have set up explosives all over the place? I'm not a dev myself, but doing something like this doesn't seem so complicated and it certainly wouldn't cost a lot more since they've already built all the mechanics and assets. The game just gets so repetitive after a few hours. I'm currently at the end of the 2nd chapter, and I really hope things will shake up. I want to like this game but I can see myself changing the review to a thumbs down if the rest of the game stays like this. EDIT: The final act shakes things up a bit, but not much. Story becomes seriously cringe. I had fun with this game, but I would only recommend it to diehard fans of turn based combat games.
The best way I can describe this game is not finished. I would only recommend if you have no other turn based tactical games left to play.
It is fundamentally fun, because its basically "mutant year zero" But worse in every possible way except maybe graphic.
Just completed the game. For some reason I only found it in 2024, though I love turn-based tactics very much (probably my favorite type of games) and I really enjoyed their "Mutant: Year Zero" (completed both the game and the expansion). Corruption 2029 is a set in a dystopian future where two pretty dark factions fight something of a civil war in USA. With a possible third force looming in the shadows. No good guys. You are a Commander -- a remote controller of the "units" -- special operatives changed to be effectively human drones. More like bio-machines (one of your guys even has a metallic replacement of the head!) So, there, like I said -- you are NOT one of the good guys. Not in the usual meaning of this word. Your initial mission is to destroy some kind of the doomsday weapon one of the factions intends to use. Save the world. Yay. Only it's not that simple... You'll see if you play ;) You have three operatives (that's it, so better avoid losing anybody) and a number of missions. Between missions you get squad upgrades, implants and sometimes new weapons based on your performance. Missions all happen in the same area and during the mission you can move between locations to gather additional loot and complete the secondary objectives. Missions are similar to Mutant Year Zero -- you move in real time and turn-based starts when the combat is initiated. Combat is a classic "two actions" system you can see in X-Com, Mutant Year Zero, Shadowrun etc. The feature of the game is their weird stealth system. If you can kill an enemy without rising the alarm (using silent weapons and special abilities) the rest of the enemies remain calm. Sounds cool, right? The biggest criticism comes from the fact that enemies ignore the dead bodies of the their comrades. Sees the body doesn't give a ****. I know, I know. BUT. For some reason that is not that annoying and finding a spot to silently kill an enemy gives you a huge satisfaction. So the game is a mix of turn-based combat and tactical puzzle (like Commandos). And these guys do a HELL of a beautiful games. Graphics and atmosphere are simply out of this world. All in all I loved the game world, loved the characters (felt like playing mechanized ADVENT btw), love the plot, loved the combat and stealth system. A very decent game. Probably liked it more than Chimera Squad. Recommended!
bad copy of Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden i do not like this one... the game play is fine but the story is bad so many part of the game looks like model and part of the other game making the game feels not complete...
This game is not worth the money even on sale. Considering Xcom 1-2 and Wotc can be bought on sale for like 5 bucks. This game is incredibly basic, like a demo that they decided to stretch out. There is a huge focus on stealth which is pretty fun at first but as you progress through the game the enemies all get the craziest health and grenades that you won't be able to set up clever ambushes that will actually kill the guys before you break stealth. There isn't even a melee function, a reward for sneaking close enough to the bad guys to dispatch them without gunfire. Rebel Cops has these features and is a far superior game and can also be picked up on sale for like 3 bucks. I was pretty excited about this title for about 4 years because I saw it on Epic game store but it was literally never on sale. It finally came to steam and was on sale but I kind of wish I had passed on this one. If you want a fun fully fledged tactics game then Xcom, Phoenix Point, Gears Tactics, Rebel Cops, and Show Gunners are much better. I hear that Mutant Year Zero is also good but I haven't played that one.
Bearded Ladies, you guys have so much potential !! But please make the next game length as XCOM 1 and/or 2 ! I promise you, IT WILL SELL ! Corruption 2029, Considering the price, it's worth it. If you want a fun but challenging and SHORT turn based strategy: Give it a try. The game is really short. There's a grand total of 18 missions. The game world is open to explore for the player to find items they need in fights, like: Med-kits, grenades, remote-explosives and turret hacking codes. The stealth is much like Mutant Road to Eden. Ambushing enemies with a shotgun and a GTA style mini-gun is HILARIOUS ! I am DISGUSTED at the following things though: Areas throughout the game are reused each chapter. Enemies will often spawn in the EXACT same location on the previous mission. You can only carry 3 of each of the consumables in the game, just a dumb decision from the Devs. But the WORST part of the game is act 3, the final act. Now stealth is pointless, since the only 2 stealth weapons in the game won't deal enough damage to take out most enemies. Also the flame thrower I get in ACT 3 is utterly useless. flame damage against ONLY robotic enemies ? WTF ?! I'd down vote it if I didn't have so much fun in ACT 1 and 2.
the game looks good but three trained soldiers should be able to hit a motionless target with their assault rifles from a distance of ten centimeters.
