This is actually a tough one... CORBID - A Colorful Adventure with light-puzzle elements is mainly targeting children, but adults can play it too. The problem though: the game is repetitive and riddled with bugs, glitches and you can softlock yourself multiple times

[th]Pros[/th] [th]Cons[/th]

✔️ Its cosy atmosphere and somewhat linear exploration ensure it provides just enough relaxation for kids to enjoy thinking without too much stress ❌ Bugs and glitches at 144 Hz/FPS really ruin the experience. There were several boost arrows that allowed me to fly through the air, and I got softlocked in a few levels. You can see a softlock example here and the result of too much boost thanks to 144fps here

✔️You can select levels from a neat little overworld that is colourful and vibrant ❌ The puzzles repeat themselves very often. In World 1-1, you shoot colours in the same way as in World 2-5. You encounter more colours throughout your journey, but that's not enough to make the repetitive gameplay loop any better
✔️ The soundtrack is cozy and I found myself vibing to it multiple times ❌ The game isn't text-heavy, but some of the dialogue is written horribly wrong. For example here. Sometimes you also collect pages and it doesn't count after completing the level which is also discussed in the forums already. So, if you have to redo a level because of this, have fun watching all the unskippable cutscenes again. You can't skip them, and no, the level doesn't finish once you've completed it — it resets

Additional Info:

[th]Content & Value[/th] [th]I completed CORBID - A Colorful Adventure in four hours, earning 100% of the game's achievements. For those interested in achievements: This game is quite easy to complete 100%, even though some of the achievements are buggy like the page collecting one[/th]

Mode Single Player

Controller Recommended? Yes, but you can also use KB/M

Is it worth buying? Yes, but I would highly recommend waiting for a sale. It's not a bad game and it offers a unique cozy light-puzzle experience, but it's nothing groundbreaking. If you have a niece or kids, then I would say go for it once on sale

Follow our Curator page, IndieGems, to see more high-quality Indie reviews regularly.

In-Depth

Story, Gameplay, Soundtrack & Downside
Players take on the role of Corbid the elephant, who must get through levels and take down bosses by solving puzzles. A Colorful Adventure involve rolling, pushing/pulling objects and shooting paint at surfaces. You need to roll across ramps and chasms, and drag boxes onto buttons among other things. You can also use different coloured paints to open doors and move slimes that love paint. The game is full of colour and friendliness, and the game overall is very simple. Each level has a selection of items to complete, such as finding a certain number of crystals, fixing a Camknat bot, and finding journal entries. Although there is a screen for each level that details what needs to be found, these don't appear when you complete a level. There is no “Congratulations! You found all the crystals!” page at the end of the level. You actually have to interact with the level to see if you have found everything inside it. If you are a completionist who likes to know that you have found everything from every level, you will find this extremely annoying. At least the soundtrack is very soothing and I found myself enjoying it multiple times. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it's definitely fitting. Each level consists of a variety of puzzles that work together to prevent you from reaching the portal at the end. There are even puzzle-based boss battles, which feel a little strange, but fit the overall theme of the game. However, my biggest problem with this is that the levels are far too big. Some of them contain 428 shards to collect, as well as other collectibles, and take 20–30 minutes to complete. Reducing them to half the size would make this game much better and eliminate some of the repetitiveness. There are also a lot of grammatical errors, which are common in almost every game. However, it was clear that the person who translated Corbid into English was a native speaker of another language. This didn't bother me often, but it was annoying when I was trying to understand the instructions. However, I know some people find this massively distracting. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3558044932 Once you get the hang of it, your rolling ability is probably one of the smoothest and most fluid. It feels great to corner, pivot and even do a 180° turn during play. It's clear that the developers put a lot of effort into making the movement and action fluid and fun, and it really shows. I enjoyed the way Corbid slides from location to location and over jumping puzzles and water, which instantly "kills" you if you fall in (it's basically just a reset to the last surface point). There's almost no downside to dying; bear in mind that this seems to be a children's game, so mistakes are quickly forgiven and forgotten. The only thing you loose though is your color. All the 'enemies' in the game are actually friendly and impede your progress by giving you hugs. This makes it a wonderful action-puzzle game for children of any age who can read. I understand that this is a children's game, but I find the tutorials very intrusive. Not only are they unskippable, but they are also extremely condescending. Even children wouldn't need the Camknat fixing tutorial every time they try to fix one of these little bots. It's intrusive and almost insulting after a while. Thankfully, the opening cutscene for each level is skippable, but the rest is not.
Conclusion
Don't get me wrong; the game is definitely worth picking up because its performance is smooth as butter. However, the 144 Hz/FPS, bugs, glitches and softlocks are too severe to overlook, regardless of whether it's a kids game. It has to work — children should be able to make mistakes without there being any consequences, and there aren't even any checkpoints. The translation could be much better than what it is right now, and children should be encouraged to experiment and not be punished for it. Yes, it can be fun when it works, especially if you don't make any mistakes, but if it doesn't, it's just infuriating and can you guess who has to redo the part of the level because of softlocks? That's right: it's Daddy to the rescue.
Final Verdict: 5.5/10 – It's a cozy puzzle platformer experience for mainly children that's let down by too many bugs and glitches

You can find another review (positive in this case) from one of our IndieGems reviewer, here, even though the rating is kind of the same.
So far it's very cute and colorful. A lot of exploration and puzzling about how to get the doors open - by using paint in varia colours - and progress in the gardens to your portal. And even a cute mini game where you have to find the right pattern and match it up. The bright colourful world instantly puts you in a happy mood and makes it so you don't easily get so frustrated, well at least so far since I'm still early in. Don't worry I will come update here if that changes. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3182477662 But it has to be said there are still a few small issues so I hope it gets polished up just that little more. So far I noticed the very first dairy page I found can't be found anymore in the little book stand where you can overlook all your diary pages. And the boxes you have to push/pull and move to the right spot sometimes refuse to go a certain way - am I overlooking something or are they just a bit iffy? The find the pattern camera is so, sooooo slow. The rose stamp was the first one I bought and now I have to re-buy it, it's just locked again, weird - especially knowing I had that one equipped even. But other than that so far so good and they're just minor things, not game-breaking. Nevertheless, it would still be nice to see them improved just a smidge more. A quick first look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_1_z0CIm8w So yeah if you're into relaxing, cute puzzle platformers and like the idea of no stress, time or goal pressures then give the demo a try for sure - and if you like it enough you may even pick up the full game. Anyway, I have to go back in, that adorable Corbid and the new little helper I just found are waiting for my help. Do note that this review is subject to possible change since I'm still early in, but I wanted to help the developers gain more visibility by putting one out here already and so far my gut says for now a thumbs up. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3182477573
A review copy was provided by the developer.
🔶 Corbid! A Colorful Adventure is a 3d platform focused on simple puzzle, suitable for all ages. 🔶
Graphics (6.5 / 10) :
The graphics are good, colorful but lack of multiples atmospheres (only 2 worlds, botanic garden and Egypt temple) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3240837855
Gameplay (5.5 / 10) :
Simple gameplay, with multiples different design on each level (pushing boxes, shooting paint on some target …), make for all ages, you lost nothing on death, and also pretty hard to die. There also a map where you choose your levels and buy new skins on the market. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3240836954 Unfortunately, world 2 is pretty hard, and you get soft lock on a part of level because of a lack of a color (and need to retry from the beginning), which is non-sense for a puzzle game ...
Price (7 / 10) :
Game cost 10 euros, 2 main worlds, and take around 4 hours for main discovery of the game, maybe lack of a third world.
Story/Music/Optimization (6 / 10) :
Some story, nothing significant, with translation in French. The Music is ok, but pretty repetitive. No problem of optimization (played on i5 / 2 Go VRAM / 8 Go RAM), but some bugs that can go to soft lock (get stuck close to a box, a need to retry the level from the beginning). https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3240837577
Final Note (6.2 / 10) :
🔶 Corbid! 🔶 💚💚💚 : - Simple gameplay suitable for young players - Each level adds new mechanics - Nice colorful graphics ❌❌❌ : - Only 2 main worlds - Can be repetitive - Some bugs (dialogue repetition, rare soft lock) - World 2 where you can being soft lock on some puzzle (The two yellow snail on end of world 2-3)
You can found a another review for this game from another member of the group here. "Corbid! A Colorful Adventure" is indeed a colorful adventure! A casual puzzle platformer adventure game; great for adults and kids alike! Meet Corbid and Poppy (your peculiar cute little friend) and venture out for the great adventure! Use many colors to solve the puzzles and traverse the beatiful and complex garden mazes! Help Corbid to achieve his dream and become the garden champion! First of all, this is THE most cute game I have seen in a really long time. The characters are amazing! All of them! Because it's not only Corbid and Poppy, but other friends and enemies, like bees, dinosaurs, sea creatures and more! Secondly, it's very well made and filled with love and color! Interesting puzzles and various mechanics that become more complex the further you progress into the game. It will make you think hard and, at the same time, you won't stop smiling or having a good time! The puzzles include simple navigation, complex paths to unlock doors, pressure plates, targeting, navigate the slimes, click on switches, find the colors, combine them and more! It's amazing how such massive levels don't make you feel lost. There is always a sense of direction and destination; and that's due to careful designing! Sheer luck won't help you traverse the gardens, you need to put that brain of yours to work. It's perfect for everyone. The combat is non-violent in this game, it uses clever tricks to overcome that. They can vary from utilizing enemies, to the enemies having a negative effect on Corbid, to even minigames (such as find where XYZ hid in moving barrels) and more! Many colors, minigames, puzzles, patterns, collectables and diary entries! Well thought-out and interesting puzzles. Clever design, cute characters, beautiful world! And the sweetest protagonists! You can't resist when Corbid looks at you! Help him become the champion! ^^ Suitable for all audiences. Very, very, very highly recommended!!! A stellar example of an indie game done RIGHT!!! For more reviews, follow my curator https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44864435-Mewesome-Reviews/
It won’t win any awards, but this indie game is accessible to younger players, has a great mechanic, and will entertain even experienced gamers for a few hours. You are Corbid, a bizarre piglet-like creature living in a vibrant garden world. Your primary abilities are quite limited because you can only roll, push boxes, and use your snout. It's unusual for a platformer to lack a jump button, but this is simply one of the mechanics that adds to its uniqueness. Rolling is used for breaking vases in the garden and jumping over ramps. Because it is simple to navigate, it can also be utilized to travel quickly across the stage. Pushing boxes does not need much explanation. You simply grab it and position it anywhere you like. Boxes are frequently used to press pressure plates or as bridges to allow you to reach other locations. This mechanic is not particularly enjoyable because it appears in so many other games, but at least you do not have to use it all the time. The snout is a little more unique because it allows you to play with colors. By eating certain colored berries, you can replenish your "tank" and shoot color at targets. This can be either a creature or a door switch that must be hit with the appropriate color. Although you can only hold one color, you quickly make a friend who allows you to swap between two hues. This is useful later when you need to blend colors. As stated before, the game takes place in a garden. Stages are selectable from the main hub, which expands as you complete them. The game will take you through two different gardens. A stage is not a giant playground, but rather a hedge maze of »rooms« connected by pipes and holes. Holes, by the way, are quite bothersome. When you enter one, you find yourself in a little dark maze with only a small circle around you. If you forget something or need to return, you'll have to navigate the maze all over again. Because of the same environment, stages doesn’t really look that much different from each other. There will be new elements here and there, but the surrounding assets stay the same from start to finish. The graphics are fine, but nothing leaps out. I'd appreciate better textures for bright gems; they can be difficult to see in brightly lit locations. Aside from gems collected along the route and in vases, a level has a diary page and a broken camera bug. Gems allow you to purchase patterns in the main hub. It's only a minor cosmetic element that has no impact on the gameplay. New patterns are unlocked by fixing a camera bug, which is accomplished by locating the appropriate pattern in the vicinity. The bad news for those who want to grab every gem is that there's no way to see how many are still in a stage. This can only be seen when you enter a stage from the main hub. Difficulty is easy. Stages are more or less linear with a clear path, there is no real danger, and you can collect everything the first time you play a stage. The only threat is water, but it will respawn you at the nearest checkpoint without penalty. There are some nasty bugs. One annoying bug happens in the second garden; when you roll into a barrel with berries, you become stuck in it. Since there’s no checkpoint, you’ll have no other option but to restart the entire stage. Another bad one in the second garden happens in the fifth stage; when you return to the previous part of the stage, it doesn’t load and you fall off the map into a neverending fall.
This is a cherring and amazing game! Truly a colorful adventure! I wish there was more games like this actually. It is a cool and uplifting game that can be played by kids, but if you are an adult like me you can also have your share of fun and plug the hole games like banjo kazooi or spiro left!
💜 This game was gifted to Catizens Curations for review. Hop on and drive into the colorful adventure of this very cute game! You play as Corbid, a cute elephant, with the power of color on their side. You meet a cute friend, Poppy the axolotl, who helps you on your adventures. You play your way through two different gardens which contain a few different levels and a boss "fight" for each. It's a very well made and enjoyable game, with cute enemies and a colorful look. The enemies in this game are defeated non-violently, so it's a very lovely game for children. The puzzles in this game include simple navigation, complex paths to unlock doors, use pressure plates and switches, targeting, navigating through different slimes, finding the different colors, combining them and more! I absolutely enjoyed the game, the first garden was rather simple, but it was clearly meant as a "teaching the basics" kind of stage. The second garden was a little bit harder and it had me scratching my head at some times, but it was still rather simple and great for kids as well! I also read some reviews where people said there had been some bugs, but for me, I encountered none, so I believe they had fixed them rather quickly. In conclusion it's a very lovely and enjoyable game in my opinion! Definitely worth the price it sits at and it was super fun. Absolutely recommended!
Un gran joc! Ple d'aventures divertides i puzzles desafiants. On a cada nivell t'hi trobes mecàniques noves i interessants.
Enjoying the game with my nephew and niece! Very colourful and fun, recommended!
I really enjoy this game but i'm having a hard time playing it when most of the time I cant pick up the fruits without retrying several times. Repositioning Corbid makes it better most of the time, but level 5-3, right at the end I needed the Yellow fruit from the barrel and no matter what I tried, I was unable to pick it up in order to complete the level. I hope there's a fix in the future so i can finish this game.
