Command: Modern Operations is the next generation in cross-domain modern wargaming. It enables you to simulate every military engagement from post World War II to the present day and beyond. The scale is primarily tactical/operational, although strategic scale operations are also possible.

Reviews
The most detailed modern operational-level air and naval wargame commercially available. It still has a long way to go for plausibly simulating land operations, whether it's even achievable on the current engine. Clunky UI and the simulational realism of some of its systems is up to debate, but it's constantly improving and still under active development. As expected, whether it's actually a good "game" or just a toy for edgy dudes depends heavily on scenario design. At least the official ones I've tried are high quality and there's a plenty of fan-made content to dive in. Overall, well worth its steep price.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This is not a game. This is not a simulator or whatever. This is a work of art. No, not the UI, of course, but everything else is pure labour of love (and those sweet sweet government contracts). If you are the kind of person who enjoys painstakingly setting up each detail of your mission, only to realise halfway through that you miscalculated your planes’ flight range or forgot to set up the rules of engagement, so now all you can do is watch as those tiny dots disappear from your screen along with your hopes and dreams. If you are the kind of person who, after a long day at work, thinks: “Yes, I would like to micromanage dozens of units while being autistically focused on military tech.” If you are the kind of person who, instead of regular topics for regular people, only talks about geopolitics and mil-tech, to the extent that people don’t consider you even ironically fun at parties. What are you waiting for? Get this masterpiece. Its price tag is very well worth it. You can always wait for a sale to get it up to 50% cheaper.
A high learning curve but well worth it for simulating "real world" platform warfare

If you're planning to take over the world with modern military equipment but are currently working with a civilian budget, this is where you start.
One of my FAVORITE War games to play. It takes some time to get used to the UI, but once you understand the depth and scale of "simulated" battles, you'll be hooked. My best advice to new players; play the tutorials several times until you understand what your doing. It also helped me to go on Youtube and watch other players (way better than me) play through CMO and take away tips and strategies for my own play style. Have fun and best of luck!
I have been playing CMO and CMANO for the last 4 years and it is insane to me how much the developers have managed to break the game with the missile mechanics (which are appropriately realistically modeled but they havent managed to update the AI to reflect these changes a year out}. I don't know what the developers prioritize, likely their private government version of this software, but its just incredibly impressive how effectively they have killed something that was a really fun good game. They seem to not realize this is a GAME. Yes realistic modeling of weapon systems is important, but implementing that realism without any sort of feedback to the player makes the whole thing unplayable. Comparing where this community and game was at 2 years ago to today is astonishing. The forums are dead, the updates are non-existent. Why the hell do I still get the error notification that they haven't found a new map developer for the maps? This is an inane project and whatever team runs the "civilian" side of this project is a joke.
