This is a missed opportunity. The models are really well made but the experience and presentation is so dry and boring. It's basically a monotone lecture while you are being moved around the environment. No interaction and no control over what's happening, no way to skip forward or backward, no agency. Whoever made this doesn't understand the medium. Give me an option to explore the space on my own pace, learn through interaction or even just decide which parts I want to know about.
Vorausgesetzt man versteht Englisch. Die Stimme des Erzählers ist aber angenehm und klar. Eine hübsche Tour über das Kolosseum. Recht gut gemacht. Interessierte können gerne mitkommen. 👀Mehr Gladiatorenkämpfe in der Arena meiner Kuratorseite. 👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑⠀⠀⠀

 Follow Main group
 Follow Second group
English: ----------------------------------------> Colosseum VR by Tecron VR is a guided tour of the Colosseum. We experience the rise and fall of the magnificent and infamous building in the middle of ancient Rome. An English narrator tells us about the lives of the gladiators and the many different citizens of Rome. We learn about the infrastructure and logistics that were necessary to keep the huge theater running over the centuries, against all odds. After standing in front of a stone wall and looking at paintings, the tour finally begins. In the course of the tour we walk through the magnificent corridors of the Caesars and can see the whole stadium and the ancient city from a bird's eye view and end up standing in the middle of the gladiators. At some points of the tour we can even choose other ways. For example, the narrator asks if we want to fly along or prefer to stay on the ground. There are no other interactions in Colosseum VR, we move on rails through the program and very slowly at that. Only the unexpected changes of direction might make sensitive people feel sick. Colosseum VR is one of the better educational tours in VR. The information content is very high and we learn quite a bit about the building and the inhabitants of the ancient city in about 30 minutes.... Provided you understand English. But the voice of the narrator is pleasant and clear. A nice tour of the Colosseum. Quite well done. Those interested are welcome to come along. 👀More gladiator fights in the arena my curator page. 👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑⠀⠀⠀

 Follow Main group
 Follow Second group
While I admit it took a little longer than it should of to realize this wasnt a game, but a History lesson... It had good info and was interesting. I didnt stay in and listen though.

This is more of a guided lecture than an interactive experience, but it's still done well enough that it's more interesting to sit through this than a boring lecture from a teacher in school. It would have been much better if they could have added some more interactivity to it though. I would definitely keep the lecture part of this, but I'd include a free roaming mode where you could walk through the whole area and investigate things on your own. Maybe include a second lecture where you're going through the life of a gladiator showing how he might be trained, where he would await the signal to emerge on stage, and maybe even a simple minigame style combat to keep it interesting. As it is now, it's only a little better than a youtube video on the subject, and that's only because without VR it's hard to get a real sense of scale for everything. I mean, I've seen the colosseum in video hundreds of times, but I've never been there, so the whole scale and scope of the place is just completely different when they plop you down in front of it. I've only put just over half an hour into it so far and I don't know if I really want to spend more time on it, but at least you CAN skip ahead on the parts you've already seen by pressing the A button. Unfortunately it only skips the audio so any portions where they slowly move you around will still have to play out fully. They don't provide you with any way to go back to earlier parts, so if you missed something and need to revisit it, you're probably gonna have to exit and come back. Still it's worth a look, it's free and the only cost to you would be your time taken to download it and view it. Probably about a 30 minute experience in total, not counting the parts that you miss by making a choice about where to go next.
Its very good and its amazing to take in the scale of the Colosseum. It was a bit startling to at one point be surrounded by 4 armed Gladiators in the Arena. If I have one criticism it is that i would have liked to be able to walk around in free mode (maybe that could be done in the future?). Also I could not find a way to skip the current scene and move onto the next one so you have to wait. To summarise, there is a lot of work gone into this and say it is given to us for free we should be very grateful because I have paid good money for much worse so a big thanks goes to the developers.
If you go in understanding what this is, it's a great educational experience! This is a free guided tour of the historical Colosseum, and is not a game in any way. Your movement is 'on rails' and you move at the tour guide's pace, but there is a LOT of detail here; you get a pretty good look at the outside, a brief overview of the buildings that provided logistical support to the Colosseum, and then a very up-close look at several parts of the interior; the varied kinds of seating, the arena itself, and even a quick look at what was UNDER the arena! One neat thing: Colosseum VR is VERY mindful of things that might frighten or upset the user, and gives you a chance to opt out of them. Are you afraid of heights? You don't have to go on the 'flying overhead' part of the tour. Afraid of crowds? You're given the option to skip an example of what a Colosseum crowd might look and sound like. I opted in to every experience the tour offered because I wanted to see everything, but it's nice to see the devs were considerate of others. Give it a few minutes to get good, by the way. The very beginning of the tour is kind of boring, but everything after it is great!
Colosseum VR is not a game, despite being erroneously published on Steam in the games section instead of the software section. This is a common mistake made by confused software developers who don't know the difference between a game and software. For developers who are new to software and don't know the difference, games have gameplay, software does not. Colosseum VR does not have gameplay, it's a VR tour of the Colosseum in Rome, all you do is look at 3D models. There are no gameplay loops or any substantial interactivity. Because this is not a game, I cannot recommend it as a game to gamers.
I cannot recommend this in the current state. I really wanted to like it (moreso as it's made by a Czech studio), but there are several wrong things about this: - All the people look the same (generic bald guys). - Graphics are very subpar. Models in the background are low-poly, textures have low resolution, shadows and lighting are simply bad (for instance, the scenes inside of the colosseum are too bright). I have an Oculus Quest 2 and even native games look vastly better. - The narrator doesn't make pauses inbetween sentences which prevents you from actually absorbing what you hear. - The narrative is bland and boring (at least the Czech one). - There is no interactivity whatsoever, you can't even use your thumbsticks to turn around. The only thing you can do is select some options from time to time such as "I'm a citizen" or "I'm royalty". - There is no sitting mode. If you sit down with your real body, it's as if you were sitting down in the product, too. - There is no comfort mode and the game moves you unexpectedly. This is not a problem for me as I have very solid VR legs after 5 years of owning VR headsets, but I can imagine this could be a serious problem for new VR users. In summary, this unfortunately looks, sounds and feels like a Wikipedia article with a 360° video and not even a good looking one. Until most of these are fixed or improved in the future patches, I cannot recommend this.
