Summary
Very short point and click narrative about depression with multiple choices and different endings. Pros + Interesting imagery Cons - Bad translation - Difficult to understand
Overview
Colorless Life is a very short point & click narrative that gives you multiples choices to determine the ending of the story, it focuses on depression and working through it. It is an interesting game with fascinating imagery, unfortunately the translation is quite atrocious and makes it difficult to understand the message it's trying to convey and will require some thinking to parse the wording. Very poor English setting. Got a very rough gist of what the game was trying to relay. May or may not be a better experience if you know Russian. There's not a lot going on anyways. Reuses a lot of the same sound effects and is a very linear experience, keep holding D and click spacebar when prompted with dialog. Quick play time, and due to the broken English it wasn't that great. Had to reload the final decision because the game would bug out and not let me click anything. On top of that the fullscreen mode lets your display scale and doesn't have resolution options. Money better spent elsewhere.

Colorless Life is a short narrative-focused adventure developed and published by HIPIX that centers on themes of depression, emotional isolation, and the struggle to overcome personal darkness. Rather than delivering an action-oriented experience, the game presents a deeply introspective journey that follows Vince, a man whose life has been consumed by negativity after unleashing a sinister force from within himself. The story uses this supernatural concept as a metaphor for mental and emotional suffering, creating a bleak yet thought-provoking experience that seeks to explore the consequences of despair and the possibility of recovery. What immediately stands out is the game's atmosphere. Nearly every aspect of the presentation is designed to reinforce a sense of emptiness and emotional exhaustion. The environments feel detached from reality, often resembling fragments of a troubled mind rather than traditional locations. This artistic direction helps establish a consistent mood that remains present from beginning to end. The title itself reflects the game's central idea, portraying a world stripped of vibrancy and hope as the protagonist struggles to find meaning amid overwhelming darkness. The narrative serves as the primary attraction. Players are encouraged to guide Vince through a series of decisions that shape the direction of the story and determine how his personal conflict unfolds. The choices are intended to make players reflect on the consequences of their actions and their influence over the protagonist's emotional journey. While the branching paths are relatively straightforward compared to larger visual novels, they still provide enough variation to make multiple playthroughs worthwhile. Different endings offer alternative interpretations of Vince's fate and reinforce the importance of the player's decisions throughout the experience. Gameplay elements remain intentionally simple. Exploration and puzzle-solving are present but function mainly as tools for advancing the story rather than as complex systems in their own right. The puzzles generally focus on maintaining engagement and pacing rather than presenting significant challenges. As a result, players looking for demanding gameplay mechanics may find the experience somewhat limited. However, those approaching the game primarily for its narrative themes will likely appreciate the way these mechanics stay out of the story's way. One of the game's strengths is its willingness to tackle serious emotional topics without relying on excessive exposition. Much of the storytelling is delivered through symbolism, environmental details, and the emotional tone of individual scenes. This approach allows players to interpret certain events for themselves and gives the experience a more personal quality. The game often feels less concerned with providing concrete answers and more interested in presenting an emotional state that players can understand from their own perspectives. Despite its admirable ambitions, Colorless Life occasionally struggles to fully realize its ideas. The narrative introduces compelling concepts but sometimes lacks the depth necessary to explore them in detail. Certain story developments arrive quickly, and some emotional moments would have benefited from additional character development. The relatively brief length also limits how much time the game can dedicate to building its themes, resulting in an experience that occasionally feels rushed despite its meaningful subject matter. The visual presentation is modest, reflecting the project's independent origins. Character designs and environments are simple, but they effectively support the atmosphere the game is trying to create. Rather than aiming for technical excellence, the visuals focus on communicating emotion and maintaining immersion within Vince's troubled world. Combined with a fitting soundtrack and subdued aesthetic choices, the game succeeds in creating an environment that complements its psychological themes. Colorless Life ultimately stands as an earnest attempt to tell a story about internal struggles, personal responsibility, and the difficult path toward healing. Its strengths lie in its atmosphere, thematic focus, and willingness to approach sensitive subjects through interactive storytelling. While its limited scope and simplistic gameplay prevent it from becoming a standout masterpiece, it remains an interesting experience for players who enjoy narrative-driven indie titles that prioritize mood and emotional storytelling over action and spectacle.
