There isn't much to do in game in it's current state, which is perfectly fine since it is still in development. I'm excited to see how the game develops, I think it'll be great when it's completed.
Watch my video here https://youtu.be/8ONWHHzp4Yg A very early version of the game, but priced about right. Not much to do at the moment. You can build some buildings, chop wood and refine it to planks. You can ship it to another island. For a city building or Settlers/Anno clone type game it's has alot of potential to become a great game. Graphics are good enough for what it is trying to do. Audio is OK. So the questions is do you splash out and help fund this early access game or wait or say no thanks. I'm buying now because I believe. :)
Experienced on Windows Mixed Reality
You can view my gameplay & initial impressions review here: https://youtu.be/4yJP91MYJDY Tough call on whether to vote positive or negative on this. There really doesn't seem to be much there currently. The game is very rough all around. I guess it's supposed to be an Anno series type game for VR. However, it's very limited in what's available to do in the game currently. I also experienced several issues during my gameplay. I had trouble even setting up a trading dock so I could begin the process of trading. I couldn't figure out how to build another dock so we could begin trading through the various islands. The islands are procedurally generated. In one playthrough, only one island had any trees and they spawned on the water too. The other islands were completely barren. Finally, when the game starts there's this flickering on and off that I have never seen from a Unity game when the game is loading up. The tutorial consists of 3 small pages of text. There's a lot that isn't explained. The interactions are clunky at best or just don't work as you'd expect at times. However, this game is pretty cheap at the current sale price of $3 USD. It is in Early Access so there's time for the dev to fix the game and make it a more pleasant experience. For right now, I would only recommend this game to people who want to support the dev and want to see this game updated. Beware though, that may never happen as we've seen many VR games in EA totally abandoned within a few weeks. We shall see I suppose. Rate 5/10. Caveat Emptor.
Coloniam is one of my first VR experiences. I have to say that it is a great game so far. The game made me realize how much potential RTS games have in this new medium. The stylistic graphics, lighting, and shading make for an awesome and immersive experience. I have a fun time playing out different strategies on my play-throughs using different islands to generate different resources, housing for settlers, and trading between colonies. My favorite building has to be the slaughterhouse. The interactions with the farmers and the pigs make me laugh every time. The game is fun, unique, charming, and has a bright future. I'm excited to continue playing as more features are added.
Abandoned in a very early state....
This game is a new type of VR game with great potential. I love it. But I can't find save game menu. Please make save game menu asap. And when I click some building, I want to see the building's information like production ratio, number of workers, etc. Thank you developers.
Looks very promising! Looking forward to seeing more content as it develops.
I'll be honest, I wanted to like this. I love city and civ builders, and the premise here is good, but unfortunately there's just nothing here. Even calling this a tech demo is a pretty big stretch as there's no novel tech on display here. Resources just trickle in at a pre-set rate, with no impact on the environment. (Build a logger in a barren patch of grass with no trees around? No problem! They still tick in at a regular 15 seconds.) The "game" in a nutshell consists of this: 1. Plop down a building. 2. Watch numbers go up. 3. Repeat. Even what is here seems to be a bit glitchy. I had issues with my population dramatically changing up and down, despite me just sitting there watching. Oh, and aside from the numbers, there's nothing TO watch. No animations. No people. No building animations even. Nothing moves except the water. From my understanding this is a lone developer, and hats off to him for starting something like this, but in it's current state it shouldn't be for sale, IMHO, even for the low price being asked. There is potential here in the long term, but it has a very, VERY long way to go.
PC SPECS: HMD - Samsung Odyssey+ CPU - i5 4460 GPU - RX 580 8gb RAM - 16gb DDR3 Overall Thoughts: Wasted potential. Could've been something special, but the game was abandoned early on.
At the moment I cannot play it as it crashes every time. I'm playing on Oculus Rift S, it's the only game I have with such an issue. Cannot recommend it yet but I'll keep it as it seems interesting from what is in the description. Tried on HTC Vive Cosmos Elite, the game boots but the instructions are not clear enough for me to understand. I will wait and not refund as it seems interesting. I can say the the graphics are good though as I did get to see that.
