About
Engage enemies from afar in this 2D action platformer set in a steampunk/retro futuristic world. Clockwork Ambrosia takes inspiration from the metroidvania genre but adds a new twist: players can customize their weapon behavior with a plethora of modifications.

Iris can equip four different weapons: the versatile Pulse Breaker, the armor-shattering Missile Launcher, the rapid-fire Revolver, and the trick-shot Grenade Launcher. Unique characteristics and different firing modes add basic utility to your kit.

Players don’t hunt for ammo count upgrades in Clockwork Ambrosia. Instead, unearthing secrets reveals weapon mods - powerful items that reprogram your weapon’s behavior. Each mod is different, updating how your weapon behaves in more complex ways than “damage +1”.

Should you add a mod that powers up your bullets? Great, but it disables a round! Wait a minute, let’s add a mod that fires extra bullets whenever you disable a round… Oh! And now you’re firing multiple bullets too, so you can use the mod that fires an extra bullet whenever you fire multiple! Oh, and that means…!
ahem
So this is just one small example (of the thousands) of unique builds players can craft through discovery and ingenuity.

Upgrade weapons to unlock even more mod slots, further unleashing your weapon’s potential.
Players also unlock a variety of movement abilities, from the classic wall jump to special gloves that let you stride along ceilings - and much more. Then customize your equipment even further, adding armor, healing powers, and other game-changing effects!

Scour the island for secrets. Make new friends. Defeat gorgeously animated foes. All while crafting a loadout for Iris that is built to your taste!
Other features include:
15-20 hour (average) playtime
Find over 100 unique mods for endless possibilities
Save and swap between your favorite weapon & mod loadouts
Pin icons to the map, marking areas for later exploration
Purchase new mods and items with scrap from the hub village of Borersville
Upgrade weapons to add mod slots; upgrade equipment to enhance their stats
Buy enemy drops from the Borersville shop if you miss them during the heat of battle
Fast travel across the island with unlockable warp points
Death returns you to your last save point, but (limited) extra lives let you resurrect where you left off

Love it! Congratulations! You made a great game. It's the perfect blend of Metroidvania and Mega Man X. The possibilities the weapon modules offer are very interesting, and when you get a new module and change your build, it's very exciting, allowing you to one-shot enemies you couldn't before without increasing the weapon's damage. The movement progression is also very well handled. You created a gem. I'll promote your game to my friends. I hope it gradually gains the popularity it deserves.
Well worth the money, especially on sale. The eventual teleportation is a bit too few and far between, but wasn't too terribly bad. I never finished the game, but I enjoyed the crap outta my 14 hours. Lots and lots of exploration! Grade: B+
Brilliant metroidvania with great, detailed level design and varied combat options. It feels like open world MegaMan X with so many mods to customize guns, I already know I go for another playthrough. Much care was put into making each area unique and fun to explore, every path, room, tresure and puzzle are easy to remember due to being unique in some way. Loot is made smart, always rewarding as most of the gun mods we find can be used through the whole game. Very refreshing, polished experience!
There is a lot to like here. But after losing an entire hour of progress due to being glitched into a wall thanks to a current and a bunch of fish, I'm done. The combat is fun. Boss fights can be intense. Lots of enemy variety to deal with, and it even looks good. The game's world looks cool, even if the story seems to be a sidenote more than anything. But navigating this large world falls a bit on the tedious side of things. I unlocked some fast travel via the mushroom folk, but that's mostly useless as that doesn't really take me anywhere I need to be anymore. The amount of dead ends you run into that just have a weapon mod that you might not even use is astronomical. I know the weapon mods can be useful. It makes sense to have them. They make combat have some pretty cool variety. But you don't need to use the full assortment of weapons most of the time. So the mods don't always make that exploration worth it. Especially considering you'll need to backtrack through so much to get back to where you're going. I liked that you unlock equipment that opens up more exploration options. It's just so tiresome to constantly run through the same areas all the time. Being able to fast travel to previous save locations would have been amazing. Great pixel art and music. But maaaan. I just don't have it in me to slog my way through the tunnels to get back to where I was. I suppose navigating through the map has been slowly eating away at me the entire time.. But losing progress knowing I've got a long trek to get back to where I was... And knowing that might just be leading me into a dead end.. Yeah, I just don't have that kind of patience.
Simply one of the best games of its type (metroidvania, search action, whatever you prefer) I've played. The core gun modding system is fun to tinker with; it feels like being an inventor, and when you hit upon the right solution to a "problem" (a boss, an enemy gauntlet) via some combo of modifications there is a real "eureka" feeling to it. Spectacular music, lively pixel art that brims with character down to each individual enemy, and a huge map to explore at a nicely calibrated pace that matches one's increasing ability to move across it. Basically, if you are a metroidvania fan, don't sleep on this.
I did enjoy the game. I grew up playing megaman and this might be the closest megaman in a metroidvania. I like the progression but the boss fights around mid game became easier when you got tons of weapon mods which make the game too easy. I did like the story even though it only progress on introduction and near the ending since majority of the game is exploration. It just in the end I think there more explanation needed to develop. Anyway any metroidvania fan just go buy it for its cheap price its worth it.
This game is sick. Interesting upgrades come quickly, movement feels smooth, and most importantly, I turned my missile launcher into a portable carpet bomber EDIT: Just beat the game. My only complaints are that I could never get the Grenade Launcher to be worth using, and the Sun/Moon/Earth Temple was really confusing. Other than that, it was an excellent adventure. Love the weapon system especially.
I was first introduced to Clockwork Ambrosia at a convention in Seattle where I played a demo and chatted with the dev. I was immediately impressed, and apparently I was the first one to beat the demo at that con. Since then, I kept a loose eye on it, and now I finally got around to playing it. I could not be happier with what I found, as this is a true gem. There's a few rough edges for the moment, but the fundamental design is rock solid. It's a game that shows the team has a lot of love of metroidvanias and games in general, as there's a deep understanding of encounter, enemy, level, and puzzle design on full display. I play on Linux with a less=than-stellar keyboard, and I ran into some bugs around movement. I can't say if it was entirely the game or my computer being a bit funny. However, there were also a couple visual glitches, and some intermittent audio issues. Nothing game breaking, nothing that caused more than, at most, redoing a room, or restarting the game. If you love metroidvanias, they are not bugs that are going to stop you. My only other major issue is that i feel the story is a bit weak. It's perfectly serviceable, and gets the job done, but I'm more in it for the gameplay. Beyond those two points, I would struggle to find more to really take issue with. Polish up a few of those rough edges, and there's something here that any fan of the genre would enjoy. I'd say it's well worth your time.
This game got its hooks in me immediately. Exploration is extremely fun, with a great mix of easy and tough environmental puzzles. There's a small amount of design choices I at first thought were a little out of place, such as not being able to aim your gun in any direction other than forward, but it didn't take long for me to see the charm in it and appreciate it from a design perspective - all game, that limitation provided just the right amount of challenge. Boss fights were tough but fair, exploration was rewarded, and I only was stuck a few times and for short amounts. Right before I bought the game, the developers improved the map system and added more pin types to it. The map and pins aided me greatly, so the times I was stuck, it was pretty easy to process what areas to try going next. The map is HUGE which is rad, but not overwhelming to navigate until close to the end, but by then you have fast travel so it's okay. Fast travel is unlocked later than is typical for a Metroidvania of this size, but there are many shortcuts and interconnections between areas you unlock as you go - just explore an area until you find a shortcut to backtracking and you'll be just fine. The weapon customization is the big hook of the game and it's rad as heck! I love how different the four core weapons are, before you even get to the many mods you can use to adjust a given weapon to different playstyles. I enjoyed the mod variety for all four weapons, although I particularly vibed with two of the four and used them basically all game. They cater to different playstyles, rather than feeling overe/underpowered from each other. Very cool stuff! All in all, I loved this game, and will definitely come back to it to 100% it and/or replay it!
