SOLID ASS GAME, 10/10
IT'S PEAK
i mean its better than flipside at least. the puzzles can be long asf tho
While I like the class of 09 franchise this game is not that fun. It is not puzzle but purely luck/rng based. Sometimes I happen to randomly get combos that let me win a hard level in 30 seconds and sometimes I wills spend 3 minutes trying to find combos and no matter how many combos I make I still lose. I wanted to like this game and but the difficulty range is way too wonky and luck based. I'm playing on pc so I'm unsure if its easier on another platform but this game was not enjoyable. The game play is so irritating I found myself irritated skipping through the dialogues because I wanted to get the game over with as fast as possible. Which defeats the whole point of buying this game. I will say there I DO THINK this was worth 20 dollars. They animated scenes which means took time and resources. I just think most of the people who play class of 09 a visual novel are more casual players than serious hence why there is a lack of enjoyment for losing 100 times in a row etc. I know there is a market for games where you suffer and are miserable all the time like rogue likes and what not I just feel like its not the game for me. Someone who is a casual player.
The voice acting is top notch as always. That's the end of the positives. While on its face the dialogue sounds like you'd expect, the premise and minimalistic plot give the script almost nothing to work with. The actual puzzle gameplay is rough at best and it has zero tricks to show you. You've seen everything it has to offer by the very first puzzle other than the gameplay getting faster. By the last few levels of Emily's "story" (the second hardest difficulty), it truly feels like you either get lucky with the starting board or you get pounded into dust by the opponent AI. Do not recommend. Because of the limited script, I can't even recommend taking the time to watch clips of the dialogue on YouTube. Never thought I'd say that about a Class of '09 game, but here we are.
TL;DR: The story is that the girlies clicked on an internet ad (scam) to get a free iphone and they are forced into playing a puzzle game and must beat everyone else. Writing is as funny as you would expect it to be and the characters are accurately portrayed. If you suck ass at puzzle games, this is not for you. It's based on Panel de Pon/Puzzle League which can get difficult and more jarring the higher in the modes you get. I love this genre though so its great getting a modern port of this game since Nintendo forgot about the IP.
It's fun as a puzzle game, but there's little to no story, more like a collection of fun interactions between the Co09 characters
just please use my $20 to fund more Class Of 09
I've played all of the Class of 09' games and this one is genuinely the only one putting me through some sort of stress, so from the main campaign and going against the NPCs, there was a time I was sitting there for 31 minutes until the NPC finally lost what is crazy?? There needs to be a system in place to prevent a game from going on for THAT long, or at least give the NPC a higher chance at losing if there already is.. There was more times I had to do the puzzle for 9+ minutes until someone finally lost what was just.. VERY very irritating since nobody actually wants to sit there battling NPCs for 10+ minutes until one looses, what at that point you might as well just purposefully lose since it gets very boring after a bit I'm also doing the weekend at kelly's and I really dislike how fast the speed gets too, originally I found it easy but now I'm on the 37 speed level and I haven't gotten past this stage despite being at it for more then 30 minutes, you can assume this is some 'skill issue' but I do not think it's fair especially considering there's more stages after this and the speed is just gonna keep getting quicker the more I progress, in which I don't even think my mind will be able to process with how fast it's going and my fingers can't even go fast enough to match with the speed it's going at. I understand this is the point of the game(?) but when It's going so fast to the point most players can't even match with it, it's not going to be fair at all and make the game feel like a waste of money. but don't let this review make u want the game any less unless you're like me and don't enjoy playing puzzles at god speed that genuinely give u a chance at snapping ur finger from how fast you're clicking the arrows, i do think it's great and i have enjoyed some parts of it, just some things are starting to get on my nerves now but overall.. if you want to be stressed as far as you can be and want to break your fingers from kellys campaign puzzles, then absolutely DO get it!!
This game is peak if you are really autistic!
