Clarent Saga: Tactics is a fun game in the spirit of Fire Emblem. Its mechanics are fairly simple, and it has a story full of interesting plot twists that I found unique. Some of the characters are rather memorable, and the story definitely follows the 'nations at war' theme like most of the Fire Emblem games. Pros- The story is enjoyable and enough to keep you invested. It reminded me a lot of Phantasy Star III with its generations, which was a welcome change, and this was a fairly unique aspect compared to many other games. All of the main characters were likeable and felt different. There's the 'experienced veteran', 'silent type,' 'carefree girl,' and so on, and they work. The optional conversations between characters were fun to read, and I really got a sense of everyone's personalities. The music has a lot of SRPG Studio stock, but there are a few really incredible new tracks, like the one used in the trailer, which is my favourite. It's heard in the game a few times, which I loved. The music is appropriately used, and does its best to enhance the moments of the game. There are wide variety of units, from the lords and knights, to mages, priests, and bishops. It is possible to promote your units, too, and you are often given a choice to pick between two different classes for most of your units. One aspect of this game I like most of all is that your weapons are never in danger of breaking. That always bothered me about the FE games, but I think it's a nice change here, where you can use a favourite team, choose to solo, or come up with another strategy. Each character got his or her own legendary weapon, which I liked, although I wish the story painted a more convincing argument for this that felt believable. Cons - I would've liked to see a wider variety to the maps, since many are reused throughout the game. You visit the cave where you find the legendary weapons a grand total of three times, and I was left wondering why someone would refill the chests with a fresh supply of weapons each time. Enemy variety could've been a bit better. Many maps have batches of five magi knights, five wyvern riders, etc., bunched all together as a group, which was a bit odd, but I didn't mind this too much since it was still challenging at times. Flying units are the toughest in the game since they love to target your priests and mages. Abel and Ami's relationship felt really rushed. I think it would've been better if they had known each other for a while before the story starts, since you get no real progression to their relationship. They were two of my favourite characters, and I would've really liked to see them bond more over the course of the game. Needless to say, I was still affected by the story's events. _____ Definitely check this game out if you like Fire Emblem and want something comparable, yet a bit simpler. It's a great way to spend a few days off, and you'll be thinking about it a while after you finish it, which is always a good thing in my book.

I regret not giving this game a proper review back when I originally played it, having bought it all the way back on February 17, 2018 for...according to old account statements, about half a dollar, probably during a sale. Back then, the game was fairly rough around the edges, with a lot of default character/user interface graphics and a simple plot reminiscent of the first Fire Emblem or Langrisser game...and I still enjoyed it, to the point of playing for hours and getting three different endings. Nothing too remarkable, but at the same time, no major flaw that would tick off fans of Tactics games. Since that time, the game has gone through some MASSIVE improvements. Any memories I have of past runs are completely obsolete, with the game now having a larger cast, a more refined story, and...well, just more content in general. What was once "passable" has turned into a solid thumb-up, and it's not even complete yet, with the release of a "1.0" version just around the corner. The development team behind Clarent Saga has always been small, but dedicated, and I do hope this passion project gets the attention it deserves once all is said and done.
a better Fire Emblem clone compare to Dark Deity, especially when it's free while Dark Deity is 20$+
It may not be as amazing as Vestaria Saga, but this game is well worth your time if you enjoyed older Fire Emblem games, especially for those of us who don't have a 3DS or a Switch and can't get our Fire Emblem fix. This game shouldn't be free.
Working with the UI and menus is awful even after playing other SRPG Studio games. The story elements were there, but not worth seeing to the end. It has conflicting information when it comes to the need for leveling throughout the game. The gameplay deteriorates and lacks interesting designs for the majority of the levels.
Clarent Saga: Tactics is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel SRPG Studio asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the SRPG Studio video game construction kit. SRPG Studio, if you can imagine, is even worse than the garbage RPG Maker Final Fantasy construction kit. Like all SRPG Studio "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from SRPG Studio coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. Once more we're back to the bread and butter of JRPG construction kit asset flips, the high school anime club dropout fan-fiction written by someone who watched way too much fantasy anime and thought they'd have a go themselves by using a kids construction kit and a bunch of character generator art to wrap around their fan-fiction, and as usual the subject is the developers imaginary girlfriend/boyfriend whatever. The cringe here goes up to 11, and the cringiest part of all is the developer with their hand out, begging for donations for his effort with a construction kit and other people's game assets. Cringe. As with all SRPG Studio games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of SRPG Studio is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most SRPG Studio shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. SRPG Studio is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. This game is fairly dated at 8 years old... it's showing a bit of age and won't give you a very up-to-date gaming experience. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $3 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. Even after that, this is only free in a rudimentary sense... the developer has their hand out for an eye watering $15 USD "donation" for this as you're expected to buy some extra DLC from Steam... digital panhandling. Like the homeless guys who splash dirty water on your windscreen at the traffic lights. No thanks. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 6 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War gibi 16 bitlik klasiklerden ilham alan ve SRPG Studio ile hazırlanmış basit bir SRPG. Hikaye, Meyr Prensi Abel'in ordularını, onları istila eden Pherrelios'la savaşırken izliyor. Yeni gelenler için harika bir giriş noktası!
Game wont work with a mouse, an then eventually stopped working with my controller. So yeah, there are problems with this one.
