I was talking with a friend about Disgaea. I mentioned to him that I had a slight addiction to another franchise by nis soft called Cladun. I remember it having a lot of the same over the top mechanics from Disgaea. He looked it up. (Friend) "Cladun? Do you mean Cladun X3? "(Me) "Wait don't you mean X 2.? ... WAIT WHAT!!!???" So an instant purchase and a week later it says a number over 30 hours play time on my steam page. I can also hear a voice in my room chanting "Gamble gate, Gamble gate, Gamba, Gamba, Gamba". It might be my voice? Cladun X3 is in my opinion a wildly undermarketed game that I can recommend to anyone who loves weirdly quirky and complex Japanese games. It doesn't do anything that previous Cladun games have not done. But it does the things they did do a lot better. I absolutely adore this game, and I wish it all the attention it deserves. Now that this review is done I got some Rangeons to get back to. GAMBA GAMBA!!!!
Cladun X2 but with 120 fps, functional controller support and a better options menu. Just seems like a better game and 500x better PC port.
Dear developers, this game is a gem. I can't stop playing it. I have a huge request: please make it possible to localize the game into other languages. For example, make the localization files accessible or provide localization of the game into Russian, please. Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful game.
Simple but Addictive. Simply Addictive. A dungeon crawler where every aspect of the experience can be customized. From your skills, to characters, to even who surprise attacks you in your own dungeon crawl. This is an impressively chaotic game that's made for people who love a power fantasy action RPG. My review focuses on the cores of the game, customization, random dungeon crawling and character progression. CUSTOMIZATION: has a LOT of options! Make your own Character. Give them bouncy pixel physics such as hair and other accessories. You can individually make your own weapon, armor, or wings when you use certain abilities, Some magic circles let you transform your character INTO another character! Imagine making Goku and have him go SSJ or even a Sentai hero transformation. Its a flexible system, you can make it as simple or as complex as you want. Want to ONLY make a head/face and wear the ingame armor and weapons? You can. Want to make a full body appearance, custom wings, arms, legs and floaty parts with a signature weapon? You can. You just need to know how to pixel art. Make multiple characters, you can even place them in town , give them backstories and dialogs. You can use MML to make your own dungeon crawling music. You are given 256 edit data slots to add music to the game. If you're familiar with MML in games like Mabinogi, you can enjoy tons of music from MML Composers and add them to the game. There are accommodations and adjustments needed to any MML you find on other sites, but if you take the time to set it up, it will ensure you don't burn out listening to the same ost forever. NISA is also supporting the game with collaborations that allow you to download characters and music. Such as the Touhou series and Disgaea. The network feature also lets you travel to maps players have made and grab their creations too. You will have plenty of creative content to pick up if you're not into making pixel art and music yourself! CHARACTER PROGRESSION: Cladun uses the Magic Circle System: Though you control only one character per run, you use fdifferent Magic Circles that you place your other created characters onto. Main characters rely on their ATK, DEF, SP. Sub Characters protect the Main Character by using their HP stat to take damage for them , and spend Mana to activate "Artifacts", stat boosting relics that further strengthen the Main Character. The Sub Characters defend the Main from all 4 directions based on placement. When a Sub character runs out of HP, they fall and any stat buffs their mana activated is lost until you can revive them. This system is deep. as you assign Sub characters and use their mana to boost the Main Character you find doing so efficiently becomes a puzzle in itself. Once you acquire rarer, titled versions of artifacts which different buffs, and aim stack effects with adjacent artifacts while managing mana constraints. Consistent fine tuning or completely new build ideas will help you progress further into deeper dungeons. Equipment Has Ranks from 1 to 23. They also have Effectiveness Multipliers and Titles that you can assign to push your stats further. A singular weapon type can vary from elemental affiliation, to damage range multipliers and base stat increases too. Each weapon type has a noticably different playstyle. From Dagger's attack speed and stealth, to hammer's efficient mob clearing and sword's versatility. The title system lets you push this variety further. Assign Titles to weapons and armor to increase base damage, drop rate, movement speed or add multipliers and modifiers. By selling unneeded equipment the titles they hold can be assigned to new gear. Eventually unlocking titles that let you break the damage cap itself. Each class learns skills that can be freely assigned to 6 slots. Artifacts let you further be modify them. SP costs can be lowered to suit a casting barrage, or increase their skill level massively to make nukes. Once you level cap, you can rebirth into a different job to learn more skills while retaining what you've gained. Every class offers a variety of playstyle altering magic circles: Saint class has access to Circles that are made for Sustain with gate revives, yet also has powerful, high risk circles where if one sub character dies, ALL of them do Some Circles Or even bestow flight and wings to fly over traps. All of these options are just for ONE class alone. Combine all of this and you have an AMAZING upgrade system that can keep you busy for a LONG time. All of this leads into what you'll spend most of your time doing and that's - COMBAT AND DUNGEONS: Your builds will be tested in rangeons and the main story's hand crafted stages. Rangeons put you through a series of themed biomes which have randomized layouts of crafted rooms with a specific setup and challenge in each one. So you'll get weird layout combinations of these rooms; but nothing gamebreaking, What brings it life is the variety of monsters. Almost all of them follow a simple pattern: Aquans will chase you down and shoot icicles from the ground once near, Turtle Faces will fire missles in the air that will land on you from a distance. Alone they're no problem since they're so predictable, but combine them all and you'll often need to assess the most efficient order to take out mobs. In all of this chaos, traps both positive and negative litter the maps and can both work for and against you. Enemies can be healed by heal traps just as much as they can be hurt by traps you trigger. As you gain experience you'll learn to think fast and use these traps to your advantage. Each floor has random gates that can appear, from positive ones that give full heals, to cursed gates that have a chance to give level spikes so massive they almost guarantee you'll wipe on the next floor. We also have odd ones out like Gambling gates that could give you amazing drop rate buffs or deal dealing massive damage the next. The random dungeons also have a wider than expected variety of events too. Such as being attacked by random edited characters in your data as minibosses, to floors full of Phantom Cat Thieves that's totally not a Persona 5 Reference with rare loot aplenty. The random event variety is pretty good and is much more than just "rare number go up". It can get very chaotic in a way that keeps every run exciting beyond the loot you can get. It stands out in the current roguelite trends that tend to focus on only GOOD events and not bad ones to balance it out! IN SUMMARY: I've been a huge fan of Cladun 1 and X2 and they were my favorite dungeon crawlers. The endless list of challenges as your stats climb ever higher kept me coming back for more. It's a pure power fantasy to see your damage go so high with each run and narrowly surving a random level spike. Cladun X3 exceeded all of my expectations, from the new abilities, the new monsters and surprising amount of new dungeon events . NIS truly expanded on Cladun X2 in every way and is a MUCH MUCH BETTER PC RELEASE THAN X2. I originally Played Cladun X2 on PSP. The port for PC does well it when it works but is technically underwhelming. This game however, works smoothly. It's clear in the decade plus NIS finally takes the PC platform seriously. If you like collecting endless loot and the feeling of growing stronger while embracing a deep upgrade system that inspires creativity as you imagine your created OCs in the game. I highly recommend this game as being worth the price tag. Thank you for reading!
Hidden gem of a game. It's a classic dungeon crawler that's a mix of roguelike strategy & mystery dungeon with a lot of interesting depth added with the fact that it is a realtime fusion of the two game genres. There's a lot of fast action like sliding under tripwires, jumping over traps/fire/hazards and mixing in all the different things that monsters in the game can do make for an interesting learning experience with each run. The difficulty scaling is pretty good, it starts off with tutorial level easy then ramps up explaining mechanics over time before throwing you in, by the time you get to the third set of dungeons it's already pretty difficult and the puzzles/fights that come later are no slouch either. It doesn't just drop off in difficulty, but instead gives you even more variety in how to build out your characters, tackle encounters and so on, none of which feels wasted or meaningless even later into the game's main story dungeon paths or even the randomized mapgeons. Gave it a shot because NIS + trailer showed making Etna and I was going to copy that but... holy hell the customization you can do on characters & music is far beyond what I expected. It's almost like the old BYOND sprite sharing maps, you can explore other people's worlds and download characters from any anime/popular JP franchise you can think of practically. So not only is the game good with huge layers of depth but you can play as any character you want with any song you want all built with the in-game systems, no modding required. I used to think Steam had a lack of mystery dungeon style games, clearly I wasn't looking hard enough, especially considering this is the fourth entry to this franchise apparently. Do not skip if you are a fan of mystery dungeon/roguelikes or even just NIS style menu management where you spend a bunch of time after grinding reworking your entire inventory and bonus effects for your characters.
This is a $3 game, not a $30 game. I refunded it.
