Chronicles of Mystery - The Tree of Life

The story is a clichefest - something Causabon and Belbo from Eco's Foucault Pendulum would laugh about, and then send the author to Manuzio to be gently deprived of his savings. The Templars are having a rest this time (remember - we had the Hospitalers last time), so we chase the Elixir of Life with the immortal Count Saint Germain - here a grumpy, out of shape middle aged man who complains about everything and never gets anything done. The already shoddy writing is further muddied by the bad translation to English and then butchered by the uncaring tone of the voice actors (I don't blame them - I would find it hard to care too). Whether they talk about lasagna, end of the world or eternal life, you get the same monotony with a hint of faked excitement. But if you like inventory puzzles - juggling pieces of glass, pliers, screwdrivers, watering cans and such to find over-complicated solutions to mostly ridiculous problems, you will be in haven. I had certainly a few good laughs. At least I hope you got the series on a hefty sale as I did - that way, you won't have any regrets.

O jogo é uma ficção interativa. Só existe uma possibilidade de fim e os puzzles são razoavelmente fáceis de descobrir (o próprio jogo ajuda). Gráficos ok, sons ok (a dublagem podia ter mais emoção). O jogo não é ruim, mas a história é meio boba e meio óbvia. Eu daria uma nota 6 de 10 no geral.

Finished! Overall I liked it, though some of the puzzle solutions were really obscure, plus there were a couple of annoying timed sections.

Great old fashioned style adventure game . Nice story, artwork and voice acting. Game play works smoothly. Would definitely recommend for fans of the genre.

I think I might hate this game. The graphics are horrible, you can’t change the resolution (which is terrible), the game is annoying and when I started playing I walked around and tried to click on stuff but it mostly just repeated “you can’t do this yet”. Such objects shouldn’t be clickable then. There are way better point and click adventures on Steam. Due to its technical problems and its boringness, I can’t recommend this game.

The games runs fine on modern computers(windows 10). No tiny resolution issues. Plays exactly like Art of Murder series and Syberia. The game does not have over complicated puzzles except the Slider puzzle. I have added some Puzzle tips on steam discussion because walk through failed to mention them. The Chronicles series were very good because (and only because) we played The Scorpio Ritual and The Tree of Life. Whatever you do, don't soil these first two excellent games with the two jokes that are the latter two.... you have been warned..!

Steuerung manchmal etwas komisch sonst recht gutes spiel

as with every other 3d point and click game from city interactive, the dialogue is atrocious, the puzzles are moon logic incarnate, and the plot is awful with a terrible ending. and for that reason, i give it my highest recommendation, as there is nothing more fun than sitting down for an afternoon to play one of these things with a walkthrough on standby
