A pure and addictive fun game. Simple to learn, hard to master!

This is a barebones puzzle game that has been compared to Tetris in other reviews, but I think it also resembles Lumines. You place pieces similar to tetris pieces (though not tetrominoes) and the pieces are cleared whenever a sweeping line comes across rectangles of a certain size. However, the aim of the game is largely to cover the area of the playing field in rectangles until every block of the playing field has been scored on. You can place pieces wherever you want on the board, which makes the mouse the best fit for the game, although controllers can be used. The game is rather simple and has a limited number of levels, but it's a reasonable experience for the price.
The problem with Chime is that it's play modes just don't scratch the itch that puzzle games usually give me. I can either choose Free Mode for a challengeless sandbox, or Timed Mode where (despite earning a few small time bonuses) I'm basically noodling about for exactly the amount of time I tell the game that I want to play at the start. What I want is to feel like my skills are earning me progression deeper into the game with each play, and Chime just isn't giving me that. Maybe there's something fundamental I've missed that will give me that experience? Or maybe I'll just play something else.
