Reviews
I'm not usually into these kinds of turn-based tactical/chess-inspired games, but I played the demo a while back and found it surprisingly relaxing. It's the sort of game that's easy to unwind with after a long day rather than something that constantly demands your attention. The art direction is one of the biggest highlights for me. The character models, environments, and overall theme are really well done, and the audio complements the atmosphere nicely. It's a pleasant game to look at and listen to. My main criticism is the Wizard. Compared to the other heroes, the abilities just didn't feel as satisfying or impactful to use. It wasn't enough to ruin the experience, but it definitely stood out. There are also a few bugs here and there, but considering it's in Early Access, nothing I encountered was game-breaking. The biggest annoyance was the options menu—it can be a bit messy when trying to switch between fullscreen and windowed mode. Overall, if you're looking for a laid-back strategy game with charming visuals, a relaxing atmosphere, and an interesting take on a chess-inspired adventure, I'd say it's worth checking out. Even as someone who isn't normally a fan of this genre, I had a good time with it. Can't wait to see future updates.
I like the Idea of a mix between chess and turn based rogue like. Will there be a harder mode later where you do not see on what tiles you are not safe? Maybe some more classes that represents other chess figures could make it interesting in the long run, like a horse that has a very unique movement pattern. But overall it is a fun game that you can just jump in and play a few rounds. I found one Bug: When setting Music Volume to 0 in the Menu, it stays silent whatever Setting you chose afterwards.
Chessman adventures throws heroic characters into chess and adds in a lot of interesting depth without being unrecognisable as a chess game. the undead hordes of zombies and skeletons are different tiers of pawns, special units like wraiths and stone angels are bishops, as are the players own archer and bard. The party selection means you can approach different puzzles differently and swap starting positions to what suits you, but it never expands into something more chess like with two armies in early access.
It's cheaper than a pint of cider and the developer has an excellent beard. What's not to like!
This is a really good turn-based strategy/puzzle type game. It has that "easy to learn but hard to master" vibe which keeps you saying "just one more game"! The AI seems to be pitched about right to - not so good that you can't win but also challenging enough to keep you interested. Also the artwork is really nice and the music is very catchy
Honestly had a good time with this. Chessman Adventures is a pretty cool game. It was easy to get into, but there's enough going on that you keep figuring out better ways to play. If you're looking for something a bit different from the usual action games, I'd recommend giving it a try. It's a fun idea, and I'm looking forward to seeing what gets added in future updates.
I've enjoyed playing this on my Steam Deck , its quite casual and the challenges are rewarding once you figure them out. I'd definitely recommend this, if you're a fan of a unique twists of Chess and strategy, This is a must! I'm excited to see more updates and challenges, have fun playing Chessman Adventures.
