About
A new way to play the world's oldest game
Love chess but tired of memorising openings? Our competitive online play is focused on thinking fast not learning patterns. Challenge yourself to overcome opponents in a randomly selected Chess Remix. The games all use the standard chess pieces with alternate rules. Can you think quickly and find new ways to win?
The whole world's Chess in one place
Chess Remix contains Chess games from around the world. You can try Shogi (Japanese Chess), Xiangqui (Chinese Chess), Janggi (Korean Chess), Makruk (Thai Chess) and more. These games have all been styled to look like the Chess you are used to, making it easier to learn for beginners.
A journey through the history of Chess
Travel back to where it all began, 6th century India, and try Chaturanga, the original Chess. See the games it developed into as it spread across the globe. Play Courier Chess like a 12th century European or test your skills at Tamerlane Chess.
Delve into ancient Shogi and experience the progression through different eras of Japanese history. Enjoy a marathon game of the massive Dai Shogi or a quick game of Mini-Shogi.
You can even play Hnefatafl, the Chess of the Vikings.
Chess 2.0
Chess Remix lets you change the rules and make your own game. Will you invent the next Chess?
It's your game play by your rules. You could win by losing the game,
start in random places or just have En Passant be a forced move. Don't like casting? You can turn it off. Want a Rook that also moves like a Knight? You got it. There are limitless possibilities (okay technically there is a limit, but there are so many options you could never play all of them).
Not just Chess
We have so many options to customise your Chess game you can even play Checkers. The app comes pre loaded with a variety of Checkers games from around the world and some ancient versions of the game. You can even play some other abstract board games like Three Men's Morris or even Tic-Tac-Toe.
Become more than a Chess Master
A standard Chess game has 6 pieces. Chess Remix starts with more than 100. To help you learn them we have hand designed levels to help you understand and use every piece in Chess history and the new rules you might encounter.

Its a decent game, Though i would recommend for a sale before buying this game, this game offers a lot of chess variants. And you can make your own as well and pieces. So if you're really into that. This game could be worth the price. if not then wait for a sale
Worth a Buy. Fun to play the included Chess Variants. Many old and unusual versions. Also can visit https://chessremix.app/discover to add more new games using a code in game. Plus you can create new Pieces ,with game art or your own art with new moves. AND you do the same with Boards and Rules.
Chastity's Chess Review: Chess Remix Strengths It offers standard Chess but also the largest list of variants of any game on Steam, including Chess960, Crazyhouse, Atomic, Absorption, Elimination, Capture the Leader, Losing Chess, Three Check Chess, Pocket Knights, Shatar, No Check Chess, En Passant is forced, and the ability to create customized rules of each of these. Also included are the 3 main Asian variants: Shogi, Xiangqi, and Janggi. Historical Chess games and other non-chess games like Tic-Tac-Toe and Checkers It offers a customizable theme appearance for backgrounds and pieces. Weaknesses Not all features are fully implemented, such as the "levels section". This will probably be fixed in future updates. The artificial intelligence is rather weak and may be okay for people who don't play very well but disappointing to skilled chess players. This AI can be improved using fairy stockfish if the developer wishes. Conclusion This game is worth the price if you are a hard core chess player or play other board games involving strategy. It's also for the creative types who want to make their own rules and create board games and test them with AI. I will update this review as needed when future updates are made.
Shogi rules are not fully implemented. A piece has the option to promote if any part of its move is in the promotion zone. https://www.shogi.cz/en/rules In order to recommend this program the rules of the games need to be fully implemented. Seeing that the issue with Shogi rules has been fixed I can recommend this program. I am a big fan of Chess variants. I also like that the developer is actively still working on the program. One feature that would be helpful for me would be the option to show the pieces in the Asian Chess variants as they actually appear in sets in their home countries. I find it easier to visualize Shogi if kanji is used this is especially true in the larger Shogi variants. A feature that would make Shogi appeal to even more players would be to implement the handicap system. Weaker players could then play at the higher levels. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handicap_(shogi)#Official_handicaps
These variants are so unique, and I can create so much! Wish there was an option to make pieces be able to multi step, where you can set how many times that piece steps in that direction, like the lion from Chu Shogi! Also, could you please fix the lag and crashing? My game keeps closing the moment I open it.
This software is a joke. We are in the 21st century, and this "Universal Chess" engine doesn't even allow you to scale the board properly or change its appearance to something that doesn't look like neon vomit. I spent over an hour setting up my custom pieces, only to realize the "customization" of the board is a total insult. Sure, you can pick from a few basic flat colors like grey, green, blue, or that hideous purple, but that’s IT. That is pathetic. Where are the textures? Where is the mahogany, the marble, or a simple wood finish? And the biggest question of all: Why the hell can't I at least upload my own board textures if the developer was too lazy to include them? > The developer seems to think that basic RGB sliders are enough for a modern app. This could have been a 10/10 masterpiece for chess variants, but because of the absolute lack of GUI customization, zero board textures, and no option to use my own custom board background, it’s a total 0/10. It's a visual horror from 1992. Fix the board textures and add the option to upload custom backgrounds, or stop pretending this is a "modern" chess app. Refunded. Fix the board textures or stop pretending this is a "modern" chess app. Refunded.
There is no sound.
No sound. Unimpressive interface with few keyboard shortcuts. If you can deal with those things, maybe it's worth it but I expect more polish for even $14 dollars.
This game sucks, it has not been updated in 2 YEARS and it is a buggy mess, adventure mode does not work and you can not see your creations. THIS IS A WASTE OF 15 DOLLARS!!!!
