Warning: Dead PVP Game This game has no meaningful single player content, and no playable PvP servers. There is no functioning PvP population, it's a dead game, and cannot be played as intended.
Charrua Soccer - Pro Edition is a free mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as a paid product, as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. This mobile app is, like it says on the box, a soccer game made for iPhones and Nintendo Switches. It's ported to PC lazily where nobody wanted it because PC gamers who like soccer games can (and do) play the console ported FIFA games. So it's a weird business plan to take a crappy mobile app and try to compete head to head with FIFA with crappy mobile graphics and no licensing or proper real world teams and players. But they tried anyway, and failed at comical proportions. From a technical perspective, as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features simple, cartoony 2D graphics, of the type you normally expect to see in low effort mobile apps. 3D graphics programming does require a degree of skill and competence and unfortunately not all developers have the budget or talent to deliver this, despite 3D graphics cards hitting the mainstream in the 1990's. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing. PC gamers will be insulted by the presence of console peasant children's toy controller prompts, despite this being on PC. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're developing for. Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone. These flaws make this mobile app fall far short of the professional standards we expect from a modern PC game. The poor quality of this mobile app is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 12 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 130 million gamers on Steam and well over 140,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality mobile app is to be expected. Unethically, the developers have left this on the Steam store in an unplayable and broken state. It's the responsibility of the developer to maintain their product, ensure it runs on all modern PCs, or if they determine there's defects and the game doesn't work, they should remove it from sale instead of misleadingly trying to scam gamers into buying knowingly defective products. This is harmful to Steam and to gamers, not just because it's a direct and intentional attempt to scam people, but because it takes a share of the marketing space and visibility away from other games. It's polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuine games and for genuine indie developers who put months or years into making proper games find an audience. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. So, should you buy this mobile app? Is this one of the best of the 140,000+ games on Steam? Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $12 USD, on app stores, it's free. For comparison, the $12 asking price for this mobile app could get you games like "Resident Evil Village", "Hunt: Showdown" or "Dead Cells". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay a premium for a free mobile app just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. This can be played for nothing on any phone, and the quality problems only add insult to injury. There is no world in which paying for this makes sense. $12 USD for a FREE mobile app!!! Just who do they think we are?
I usually wait longer to make a review, but I don't need it here. This is fun, detailed, easy to pick-up and probably hard to master. I can tell it is a labor of love from the devs. Thank you guys, thank you! <3 I just started playing and had a blast. I played a "test game" just to get used to the controls, then started a "career" game, enjoyed designing my team's flag, my players and their outfit. Super fun so far (3 hours in). I like to struggle with my team of newbies, see how clumsy they are at first, then win a few games, get XP and assign this XP to players. You can assign it automatically if you don't want to bother, or choose more precisely, for example improve your defense players. I chose to assign "per player" since it is much more interesting to get to know which player does what. For example I have a dude who got an initial (randomly assigned) hairstyle and beard looking a lot like George Michael, so I did not change his look and named him George M, unsurprisingly. He is my number 10, so I spent a good part of my XP on him at first, so he got faster, better at taking/keeping the ball, and especially better at kicking. Now when I manage to pass the ball to George M and he is not surrounded by opponents, I have good chances to score a goal. Then I chant a little song in honor of George M.
Charrua Soccer – Pro Edition is a cheerful, fast-paced take on football that leans fully into arcade-style excitement rather than simulation-heavy realism. Developed and published by BATOVI Games, it is designed with accessibility and pure fun in mind, offering the kind of light, energetic matches reminiscent of classic retro sports titles rather than the meticulous systems found in modern football sims. From the first kickoff, it is clear that the game prioritizes speed, exaggerated momentum, and simplified controls, making it an inviting experience for newcomers while still maintaining enough variety to keep more seasoned arcade fans entertained. At its core, the game delivers a straightforward but satisfying loop: quick matches, snappy passes, big shots, and a lively back-and-forth rhythm. The controls are easy to learn, allowing players to dribble, tackle, shoot, and deliver through-balls without wrestling with complex button combinations. This simplicity is the foundation of the game’s appeal—anyone can pick up a controller and begin having fun within minutes. That immediacy is complemented by responsive animation and a colorful, slightly stylized visual style that highlights movement and action rather than minute details. Charrua Soccer is at its best when it embraces its arcade roots, encouraging players to focus on momentum and improvisation rather than strict football tactics. The game shines through its variety of modes. Friendly matches allow for quick drop-in sessions, while tournaments offer a longer challenge where you guide a chosen team toward the championship. Career mode adds a layer of personalization, giving you the chance to build, customize, and advance a club over time. Special events and quirky rulesets—such as matches with unusual scoring conditions or themed challenges—inject additional playfulness into the experience. There’s also a robust set of customization tools: you can create or modify teams, customize uniforms, tweak balls and stadium aesthetics, and adjust gameplay assists. These features help reinforce a sense of ownership and variation, especially appealing for players who enjoy crafting their own club identity. One of the game’s strengths is its local multiplayer support. Up to four players can join matches, making the game a strong choice for parties or friendly gatherings. With lightweight mechanics and short match times, it naturally lends itself to a social atmosphere where competition feels spirited without becoming too intense. The inclusion of Remote Play Together extends this social experience beyond a single room, although the game’s online matchmaking community appears to be limited. As such, Charrua Soccer is best enjoyed with friends rather than as a competitive online title. Despite its strengths, the game does have clear limitations, some tied to its arcade design and others to its technical options. The simplified mechanics, while accessible, lack the nuance and precision that simulate a realistic football experience. Player movement can occasionally feel loose, tackling is sometimes inconsistent, and certain actions—like scoring from close range—don’t always respond intuitively. The camera system offers limited customization, restricting angles mostly to zoom adjustments rather than full positional control, which may frustrate players accustomed to deeper camera settings. Additionally, the minimap is often too small or unclear to be genuinely useful, especially during fast breaks when quick player identification matters. Charrua Soccer also lacks licensed teams or real-world players, instead relying on fictional clubs and generic rosters. While this aligns with the game’s playful identity, fans hoping for authentic leagues or known players may feel the absence. The lack of depth in tactical systems—formations, advanced strategies, player-specific abilities—means long-term engagement may taper for players who want more layered gameplay. Ultimately, the game focuses on quick enjoyment rather than detailed progression, and whether that is a strength or a drawback depends on what you’re looking for in a football title. Overall, Charrua Soccer – Pro Edition succeeds as a vibrant, easygoing arcade football game with a friendly learning curve and a generous selection of modes and customization options. It embraces charm over realism, fun over technical depth, and accessibility over competitive precision. While it may not satisfy fans seeking elaborate football simulations or online leagues, it thrives as a casual, joyful experience—especially when shared with others. For players who want a light and entertaining football game that captures the spirit of retro arcades while offering modern convenience and polish, Charrua Soccer stands as a warmly enjoyable choice. Rating: 8/10

On the game's store page here on Steam, I saw a headline from some reviewer that stated, “Soccer for people who think they don’t like soccer.” After playing Charrua Soccer - Pro Edition, I'm not sure it convinced me that soccer is a fun sport to play on a PC yet alone watch on a TV or in person. Charrua Soccer - Pro Edition looks like a mix of Roblox and as though the figures on the foosball table escaped the metal rod they are suspended from and have unleashed themselves to play without those constraints that only allows them to move laterally, but because kicking a ball is the only thing they truly know, they didn't think of enjoying their newfound freedom by doing anything else, as anything could be more fun than soccer as demonstrated by this video game, even birding or watching paint dry. I get that it's an arcade version of the sports genre, which generally means that you can expect faster paced gameplay, far shorter round(?) timers, and sometimes flashy, explosive animations that are unrealistic to what you would see in reality or in another sports video gaming franchise like FIFA or Madden, but it's just not good. The "arcade" classification seems to be used as a justification to create low-effort characters that look like something from Nintendo's Miiverse or a LEGO set as well as selling silly cosmetic additions in a store, like the option to add a hat to the soccer ball or make the players look like a mascot gone wild in a fursuit. These items are purchased using in-game currency that you collect by playing through the career mode, and I didn't notice any option to spending real money to skip the grind, so that's good at least. The players themselves are reminiscent of a LEGO figure because of the perpetual toothy grin and a complete lack of facial animations or dynamic expressions and because I think they only really have four joints that move, all located in their arms and legs. The arcade nature of the title largely comes from the sheer violence that exists where you can pelt someone with a soccer ball and knock them down, and in a way, it's almost like a brawler but on a soccer field and a ball as the main weapon. I found myself just trying to injure my opponents by kicking the ball in their face, but it doesn't appear there is an injury system to the game. I'm unfamiliar with the development studio that designed this video game, but it looks more like a junior developer's first game or even an entry for a game done quick more than something that can be considered a fully fledged soccer game with all of the necessary components that come packed into the genre. In fact, in my independent research of this studio and this video game, it appears to have been a mobile game originally that was ported to the PC market and being sold for $12 USD full price as of this review. This is rather scummy from the developers and gives red flags, as this title is definitely not worth $12 USD. What did surprise me, however; is that the video game does support numerous resolution modes, including windowed fullscreen. Although, the settings menu is delivered as this odd horizontal slider, giving credence to it being a mobile port as this is far more typical of mobile game design. There's a variety of teams to represent different countries, all having fictional but generic names for the players rather than being named after the professionals, which is perhaps understandable. There's also the female leagues, but the female characters are just as blocky and squared as the others and so there's hardly a difference between male and female soccer players beyond the women having longer hair and a pointed chest that you can notice more closely in the replay camera. You can create your own team in the game's 'career mode' and even play as the world's first unisex soccer team by adding male and female players together, as it doesn't really matter. The game doesn't take into consideration biological differences between men and women and how men are naturally better competitors of any sport, so the ladies won't deter you from achieving the gold trophy or whatever gets awarded to the best team of the season. This career mode has a variety of different options, truly allowing you to customize your entire team from its name, the flag that represents it, uniform, the coach, etc. Career mode itself is what you can expect: you basically just play through a circuit of other teams until you declare yourself the best Roblox soccer team ever. There's also a few other changes you can make of a more tactical nature where you can arrange your team and change their 'attitude' to something more aggressive, but as I've seldom played sports games before, I can't really make too many comparisons in what it is otherwise lacking. There is indeed something lacking here to create a game that has any replay value, though, maybe something like a sniper rifle for the dude who sits in the net to give them extra purpose and you can shoot a pesky player who keeps tackling you and stealing your ball. Now that sounds like a good arcade soccer game to me. The video game itself just tries to strip away what makes a sports game boring by thrusting you into the action to play sooner rather than later, but the core gameplay is still there: it's still a soccer game and I wonder if the arcade nature truly helps it shine as a better alternative to a soccer video game that is more realistic and slower-paced in its design, or even any other arcade-y alternatives. I can recognize the strategy required to playing the field properly, you have to know the rules of soccer, know the positions of your players so that you can safely pass the ball to another character off-screen without worry of its interception, etc., but I didn't find it fun to play any longer than what was required and I'm pretty sure it does lack certain rules like implementing offside penalties that I know are a thing. I once scored a goal by running the dude who helps alleviate the pressure from the guy who sits in the net all game, and surely that isn't allowed in an actual soccer game? Perhaps anybody reading this review can tell that I am not a sports fan, but I'd say it is up to the developers to convince me what I am missing out on. This video game didn't convince me. It's very basic and generic in its character design and graphics, probably due to its original release as a mobile game, the control scheme on the keyboard is a bit confusing at first with the five different types of kicks you need to learn and remember, and there's not much else to look at to distract from the tedium of just watching foosball figures running around and slide tackling each other. It might be more enjoyable to play it with/against friends, but even then, that's a stretch to just playing any other sports game if you are into that genre, and online play against strangers is going to be dead in this game as well. Basically, if you're interested in trying this game but don't know if you want to spend the money on it, you might as well just try it first, for free, on your mobile device or tablet or just install something like BlueStacks for your PC to access the game's mobile version.
