increible secuela!
Chaos on Deponia - Same as Deponia 1 but less annoying protagonist
I struggled to write a positive review for this game, not because its bad, but because its just more of the same you saw in the first game, so if you liked Deponia 1, you'll get a kick out of this one, but if you didnt like Deponia 1, you likely won't change your mind too much Gameplay vise , Chaos on Deponia is a sidegrade, as in there are positives, and negatives. On the positive side, you have slightly more intuitive item puzzles, and even traditional puzzles are more intuitive as well(you still can skip em), althought Deponia 1 was already good in that department. I also liked how in order to progress story, you had to complete a checklist of tasks for Goal, since it meant if you got stuck in some portion, you can just try to focus on other tasks. I got to give developers credit for making an interesting achievement as well, where you had to fill out your entire inventory with items + get one more item, and you'll unlock the achievement. Its a small thing, but I like how daedalic added a new type of achievement, that feels very uniquely point & click adventure, and I wish more p&c adventures had it over speedrun achievements. Gameplay downsides aren't major, and didnt ruin my enjoyment of Chaos on Deponia, but there are a lot of them. Like how there are bugs in this game, and while Deponia 1 had them(and one of them was literal softlock if you got it), in this game bugs are more common. One bug is in earth platipus puzzle, where if you pressed left on a rock or trap, it can disappear, and if you accidentally pressed left again, it can glitch out the whole puzzle, you have to press right click if you dont see rock/trap near your mouse cursor. Then there was a bug with a Goal poster achievement, where you find super hidden poster puzzle pieces, which eventually lead to Goal artwork in menu. I did everything guide said(aka stop saving game at certain point), but it still bugged out. The solutions in guide say if this happens, then reset your whole save file. But I found an ingame trick to do it, after you reach 2nd act of the game. you'll find someones hideout. Save before talking to a dolphin trainer, turn off the music, then you can make em mad, they kill you(which is, shocking, since game over screens are super rare in modern p&c adventure games), and then you press start over. This will reset your entire save file, but will let you collect Goal poster pieces all over, just do NOT save and quickly speedrun the game while collecting all the pieces. Lastly, the music is kinda grading in this game, idk the first town music in Deponia 1 is just so, iconic. It OOZES that nostalgic, rustic charm, while first town music in CoD is... very meh. Story and writing on the other hand is a mixed bag. One VERY huge upside is that, Rufus is now more likeable character. I do mean likeable, not just tolerable. He genuinely has way less moments, where he screws over someone big time, and usually when he does, its because of his stupidity and sometimes miscommunication. He also constantly gets punished for said screw ups, but when he does something good, he gets rewarded. Comedy is also a bit more funny in this game then in Deponia 1, its hard to explain why, but its just more consistent, less mean spirited, and Rufus doesnt ruin it. Infact, it almost feels like they overcorrected with Rufus, sometimes, especially in the beginning parts of the game, he almost feels too stupid, and too childish. One reason why I said story is a mixed bag is because, not to spoil it, but it has some story beats that feel like a rehash of Deponia 1. It has a sequel syndrome you can say, aka when a sequels feels like it repeats parts from the first game, while not adding too much new itself. Also the story itself feels a bit smaller, and way slower pace, and less stuff happens so it just feels smaller, despite raising the stakes. So if you liked either story or gameplay of Deponia 1, then you might enjoy this game too(if you got it at a good discount), but if you really didn't vibe with the first game(especially with both gameplay and story), you arent missing much. so just skip it and next deponia games.
Fantastic game
