Fun brawler platofrmer hybird (more brawler than platformer) Poor content for the price. An easy 1 hour playthrough for a character, and while the stages are remixed for each character their all really easy since you have 7 lives per continue and infinite continue (though continuing sends you to the start of a level) and no penalty for using them. Though platformers arent even my main thing and i can clear in 2 tops, maybe 3 for Chuck. the lives system is generous to a fault you don't need 7 lives for any stage and could tank you way through the game if you were so inclined. Which is odd, other Seep games have generous continue systems but are set up in a way that you can't use it to herp derp the game (Roar of Revenge has long enough gaps between checkpoints that if you're not manuvering through intelligently you'll just die again, while Biomech Hell all but locks the true ending for continuing before stage 5) One on one Mode is slightly harder, you pick your character and fight the other 5 with 5 lives and no regeneration between fights, but i still did it in two attempts. The combat is simple in a charming way but gets repetitive . Also 1 playthrough is just short of unlocking one character and one on one drops apitiful amount cash which isn't cool not to mention needing another to unlock survival. Not worth 7 quid at all, even on sale or part of the Seep Bundle (and in fairness most Seep games are good so buying the bundle wasn't awful) its over priced for what it was (and i mean compared to other Seep games) but it is a fun game. Even with this being a thumbs down, this game is a lot more fun than most other games I'd downvote i just feel its amenic compared to others in this range including other Seep games
At first I wondered what was the matter with the graphics looking so unpolished, until I realized this is supposed to be sort of a call-back to Dragon Climax, if the presence of Mr. Devil and his Disco Caldo is any indication (I expected Shinya and Kasuga to show up, but they didn't). After a while, I've started to like those designs, especially the oversized hands everyone is ready to throw. Once a character is selected, the others act as bosses through five levels, with one's own level obviously skipped. Miss Devil is the best: her premise for fighting is much more original and funny than the generic "I must be the strongest for more or less selfish reasons" of the others; in-game she looks more spunky than sexy, and her close-range special move hits several times. Sadly, the praise ends here because this game's lack of polish is not just in the graphics. The gameplay is bland and messy, the difficulty is uneven, levels are remixed depending on which character is selected, but it's hard to realize as they are so simple and scrolling only horizontally. Questionable collisions and cheap hits from enemies abound, making things frustrating rather than difficult. The throwing ability, besides being useless, is even bugged: during those short sections where the scrolling stops and goons come from both sides, if you throw one he may end up walking on air just above you, hitting you while you can't hit back. Bosses simply rush the player up close, leaving no space for strategy other than spamming punches and close-range specials, limiting their counterattacks to jumping up and kicking in a very easily dodgeable way before getting open for more attacks. There's a level in Italy, but it's just a generic "hell" level (even demon guys?) set inside Vesuvius. Each credit gives a whole 7 lives, a sign they weren't confident in the balance of the game, as they are more than enough to cheese through everything. A run lasts no more than 25 minutes, and yet it wears thin even halfway into that. After finishing it with Miss Devil and Hiroshi, and then Tonya after unlocking her, I regretted not stopping with the first. As I go through my marathon of SEEP's library, for the first time I find myself saying a game by them costs too much for what it offers. The previous two releases were Biomech Hell and Cosmos: Stella Returns, both much more polished and enjoyable; in comparison, Champion Road feels slapdash, a game hastily put together to have another title out of the door, something you'd have expected early on and not after years of experience at that point.
Champion road is a fun brawler that plays a little bit like kung fu, but enhanced with some special moves, weapons, and more dynamic level design that includes some platforming. You get a nice selection of characters with different attacks and storylines to add replay value. The game has a nice 16 bit look and a good soundtrack to accompany all the action and definitely a fun one for fans of platforming brawlers.
ENGLISH: It is an excellent arcade game that follows the classic Beat 'em up style, or as we often call it in Spanish, "yo contra el barrio" (me against the neighborhood). This title offers a street-fighting experience with a very distinctive graphic style that grabs your attention right away. The characters have a striking design, featuring oversized heads that give them a caricature-like and unique appearance. This visual style gives the game a special identity and sets it apart from other titles in the genre. The soundtrack is another of its strong points, with notable quality that perfectly matches the fast-paced action. The sound effects, such as the punches and cries of pain, are very well done and add an extra level of immersion. A curious detail is the sound made by the girl with the whip, which is peculiar to say the least and might get a laugh or at least catch the players' attention. This game is part of SEEP's collection of titles and is undoubtedly one of the ones with the best graphics in their catalog. The animations and details in the environments and characters show great attention to detail. Additionally, the combat collisions are well implemented, making the battles smooth and satisfying. The progression of the levels also deserves mention, as it is well-structured, offering a good balance between difficulty and entertainment. It’s a game that keeps players engaged from start to finish, with a progression that encourages you to keep advancing and face new challenges. Overall, this title manages to capture the essence of classic Beat 'em ups while adding its own unique style and personality.
nice old games
I really do like SEEP games. This one, has some definite pros and cons: PROS: good characters, multiple playable characters, great pixel art, decent enemy variety, good movement of characters, I liked the story behind each character. CONS: very repetitive (same 5 or 6 levels), some enemy placement is frusterating, stupid objects falling from the sky that have no warning and are hard to dodge, boss battles are all the same - they just relentlessly rush at you. I played thru the game with 3 of the 6 characters, and it took my about 30 minutes for each run. Overall, it is a good game, but it does have some shortcomings. But for the fair price, I still recommend it.
