It is boring and too talkative animation.
Keeps crashing at the same scene. Haven't had crashing issues with any other vr game other than this one.
Took a couple tries to get it to work (using Quest 3) but eventually got it going. Content-wise, it's like watching an animated 20-minute theatrical play consisting of a couple of monologues. Not sure they achieved what they were going for with the atmosphere and drama, but it was fine. It puts you in the seat of being visited by the 3 ghosts and it leaves you with a little to think about in the end.
Этакий атракцион сидения на стуле. Ничего делать не надо, только смотреть и слушать, если понимаешь английский язык. В целом интересно, но ничего не понятно. На разок сойдёт.
Creepier Ghosts But No Christmas in THIS Christmas Carol?
Based on Charles Dickens’ ‘Christmas Carol’, Chained a Victorian Nightmare puts us in the fuzzy slippers of ol’ Scrooge himself for this medium length VR movie-experience. Like many of the other VR movie-experiences that have been popping up over the years, it’s easiest to describe the format as being present in the experience from a fixed point of view, like that of a main character. I found this VR Experience particularly enjoyable because it toed the line over what was too creepy rather well. That said, interested players shouldn’t expect a traditional telling of the classic story. What you get here is a Horror remix of the story, which I suppose makes sense given the title of the game. I really appreciated the visuals of the game, the ghosts all looked so dang cool! But the sound design was really cringey, especially for the Future Ghost. One last thing – I don’t remember if the word ‘Christmas’ was mentioned at all in this game. Still, I enjoyed it. Recommended from me.
Não compre antes de ler esta análise!
O "jogo" é basicamente aquelas experiencias 360° assistidas.
Chained: A Victorian Nightmare developed by MWM Interactive and published by Vertigo Games is a virtual reality narrative experience that reinterprets Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol through a darker, more atmospheric lens. Rather than presenting itself as a conventional game filled with objectives and mechanical complexity, it leans into immersive storytelling, placing the player directly inside a stylized Victorian world haunted by memory, regret, and supernatural visitation. The result is less an action-driven title and more an interactive theatrical journey designed to be experienced rather than mastered. Set in a fog-drenched Victorian London, the experience casts the player in the role traditionally occupied by Ebenezer Scrooge, guiding them through a sequence of spectral encounters that mirror the structure of Dickens’ classic tale. However, the tone shifts away from festive morality play and instead emphasizes psychological tension and gothic unease. The ghosts of past, present, and future appear as imposing and sometimes unsettling presences, guiding the participant through re-creations of pivotal life moments. Instead of passive observation through a screen, VR places these scenes at eye level, surrounding the player with creaking floorboards, flickering candlelight, and looming shadows. Interaction is intentionally restrained. There are no combat mechanics, inventory systems, or branching dialogue trees. Movement through scenes is guided and measured, allowing attention to remain focused on environmental detail and emotional impact. This design choice reinforces the sense of immersive theater, where the participant moves from one staged moment to another without overt manipulation of events. While this limited agency may disappoint players seeking traditional gameplay loops, it aligns with the experience’s goal of delivering narrative immersion rather than interactive challenge. The visual presentation is one of its strongest aspects. Victorian streets shimmer under dim gaslight, and interior environments are layered with atmospheric detail. The art direction favors moody lighting and textured environments that heighten immersion. Character models and ghostly apparitions are designed to feel imposing in close proximity, leveraging VR’s spatial presence to create discomfort and introspection. The environments are not photorealistic, but they succeed in conveying a stylized authenticity that supports the gothic reinterpretation. Sound design further enhances immersion. Subtle environmental audio—distant footsteps, wind brushing through alleyways, echoing whispers—creates a pervasive sense of unease. The soundtrack underscores key narrative moments with restrained orchestration, guiding emotional pacing without overwhelming the atmosphere. In VR, spatial audio becomes particularly effective, as unseen sounds behind or beside the player contribute to tension and anticipation. The experience’s pacing is deliberate, allowing scenes to breathe and encouraging contemplation rather than urgency. This slower rhythm supports its thematic focus on reflection and consequence. However, it also means the runtime is relatively short, functioning more as a contained narrative vignette than a lengthy campaign. Replay value is limited, as the linear structure offers few alternate paths or hidden mechanics to uncover. Reception among players reflects its niche appeal. Those who appreciate immersive VR storytelling and literary adaptations often praise its atmosphere and reinterpretation of a familiar narrative. Others critique the limited interactivity and short duration, viewing it as closer to a VR film than a traditional game. These contrasting expectations highlight the importance of approaching it as an experiential narrative rather than a gameplay-centric title. Ultimately, the experience stands as a distinctive example of VR’s potential for immersive storytelling. By transforming a well-known literary work into an intimate, atmospheric journey, it demonstrates how virtual reality can deepen emotional engagement through presence and environmental design. For players interested in mood-driven narrative experiences and gothic reinterpretations of classic literature, it offers a haunting and introspective excursion into Victorian nightmare territory. Rating: 5/10
YO
I tried to start the game a few times, but after the initial introduction with the voice in what I suspect is snow in the woods at night or something, it just gets stuck looping forest sounds. I would have loved to watch the story, but it just does not work for me. So personally I sadly can not recommend 'Chained: A Victorian Nightmare' for it being not playable. (win 11, Valve index)
