Thank you to my wonderful friend for such a thoughtful gift! A cute otome with lots of cats…oh and a princess and a curse and all that too!
The Story & Gameplay
You're Leah, daughter of Earl Morford (the king’s trusty servant), who the people also call the Cat’s Princess. A very kind-hearted girl, who one night hears a cute cat crying and you go to investigate only to be cursed by an evil witch with a grudge against your father. Now you need to go on an adventure to find the powerful sorcerer Rhjau to break the curse. Along the way you meet a colourful cast of characters and even find love. There are multiple endings (5 good ones and 3 not so good). The romances you may pursue include Ray, the mischievous apprentice, Yuumei, who is friendly and kind, or Sion, the quiet one who always has his nose in a book. There are also two friendship routes, Rion and Purika. Tip- Look for the pumpkins hidden in some backgrounds. There is an achievement for finding them. 🌶️ Spice Level - zero. This is a very wholesome novel, no nudity, kissing or anything graphic.
Settings & Features
Settings & features include; display options, transition choices, text speed, skip options and audio controls. The game does have a cg gallery you can unlock during gameplay and there are lots of save slots.
The Visuals & Audio
This novel has some beautiful cg’s that remind me more of a well illustrated children's book or cartoon. Some 80’s peeps might get this reference, the characters and feel of the novel kind of reminds me of the 80’s cartoon of Lady Lovelylocks (which rocked). There is no voice acting but there are some ambient sounds such as birds chirping, crickets and magical effects. The music is instrumental and very relaxing for most of the novel with some more dynamic tunes for the action scenes. Even some playful music when you're hanging out with Rion (another cat). * You can hide the hud for taking screen captures…which is good. I took many! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3514648311 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3514648708
Overall Experience
This game is so charming and wholesome, so wholesome that even younger gamers might enjoy it. There is a fairy-tale cartoon vibe to the story and even the bad endings are not scary or dark. You do lose all 9 lives in one ending but it does not show any gore or death and actually makes a lighthearted jest about it along with getting an achievement. A sweet but short cozy game that is jammed full of beautiful art and lots of cats. 🐾

Please follow our curator page, Otome Lovers, if you'd like to see more reviews like this one! Атмосфера в игре очень теплая и располагающая. Лия мне понравилась, было приятно за неё играть. Рион просто топ! Зачем парни, если есть кот :З Но и парни зачётные))
Note: I proofread the English version, so I won't comment on that aspect. However, all other aspects are fair game. XD
Becoming a cat in the land of cats. XD

Introduction
Cat's Princess is a fantasy, otome visual novel developed and published by Feather. You take on the role of Leah Morford, the daughter of a count, who lives a carefree life until one night, she hears a cat meowing for help. Curious, Leah investigates, only to end up confronting an evil witch known as Hex. Hex kidnaps Leah as revenge for Leah's father banishing her from the kingdom. As Leah tries to escape, though, Hex places a curse on Leah, transforming her into a cat, or more precisely, a cute white kitten. Another cat encounters Leah, and as Leah can now communicate with cats, the other cat tells her that only Rhjau, a lynx-sorcerer, has the power to break the curse. However, Rhjau is being kept prisoner in a magician's tower, so Leah sets off a journey to the tower. I'll end my story synopsis here to avoid spoilers and all that. As for the gameplay, Cat's Princess has mainly multiple choices that determine which one of eight endings the reader will obtain. While three of these endings are bad ones (one earns you a Steam achievement while the other two unlock CGs), five of them are good endings. Leah can choose to pursue one of five routes: Ray, Yuumei, Sion, Rion, or Purika. Ray, Yuumei, and Sion are the magician's apprentices, and Leah can choose to pursue romance with them. Purika is the helper who takes care of tasks like cooking and cleaning (although she's secretly
one of the strongest magic wielders
), and Leah can choose a friendship route with her. As for Rion, he's Purika's cat, and Leah can have friendship with him. In addition to choices, there are hidden pumpkins in a few backgrounds, and finding all of them will earn you Steam achievements. As I mentioned earlier, Cat's Princess has many CGs as well as a varied soundtrack. In addition, there are Steam achievements although at the time of this review, they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "profile features limited".
Review
Now that I've gone over the story and gameplay, I'll move onto my critique. Starting off with the story, I found it to have a cute, sweet theme. Here, we have Leah, an innocent daughter of a count, caught in a feud between an evil witch and her dad. Leah must find a way to break the curse on her, but fortunately, she has help. As Leah is known as the cat's princess (thus, the title of this visual novel XD), she is widely known and respected among both people and cats. Once, the land where Leah resides was populated with metamorphs. Metamorphs had the ability to transform from people into cats and vice versa. However, one day, that ability was suddenly gone. Thus, whatever form metamorphs were in, they were stuck like that forever. I enjoyed this fantasy full of magic and adventure. Now, whether Leah finds a way to break her curse depends on the choices that the reader makes, of course. As for the cast of characters, I liked all of the love interests. There's Ray, the aloof apprentice who likes to cause mischief but is holding a secret. Then, there's Yuumei, the cheerful guy who is friendly towards Leah (as a cat) but actually, doesn't want to be an apprentice under the magician. Finally, there's Sion, the quiet young man who's dedicated to his studies and research. Among the love interests, personality variety is present although if I have to pick a favorite, I'd go with Sion because
there's an event in his route where he confronts the witch who curses Leah
. Now, as to the romances themselves, they're more on the cute, sweet side. The closest there is to a kiss is
a kiss on Sion's cheek from Leah (although it's simply described in text)
. For those who are looking for more hot, passionate romance, this visual novel may end up being a bit of a letdown. Also, I liked the friendship routes if you choose to go on Rion's or Purika's paths. Rion is a mischievous cat who initially doubts that Leah is a human or the daughter of a count. However, he's willing to help her out, even if his methods are somewhat unconventional. As for Purika, I found her to have a sweet, kind personality. She clearly cares for Rion (and later, Leah) but is yelled at a bit by an older woman (called auntie), who is presumably her boss. She works hard, though, and I liked finding out that
Purika secretly has magic although the magician forbids her from practicing her skills with the other apprentices
. As for the gameplay, I didn't encounter any technical issues. I was able to obtain all of the Steam achievements (albeit with assistance from an online guide), and it was fun searching for all of those pumpkins. (I believe the pumpkins were a later addition to the game.) In regards to the art, I liked the style that the artist used. The sprites are in an anime style that's typical of visual novels, but they're drawn clearly and colored well. The backgrounds are lovely to gaze at, and the CGs especially are beautiful. Colors have a slightly soft, pastel look, never feeling overly bright. Regarding the music, there are quite a few tracks. They're instrumental in nature, and they have that slow, soothing tone. I found it enjoyable to listen to the tracks, and there's a bit of variety, each track fitting well with the scene it's placed in. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2922751952 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2922776858
Conclusion
Overall, would I recommend Cat's Princess? If you like visual novels, enjoy reading stories that are more on the cutesy, light-hearted side, and don't mind the pure type of romance, then I'd say that this is worth taking a look. I found the story to be enjoyable, and it's appropriate for younger audiences. (Spoiler:
There is a bit of death mentioned if Leah makes a wrong choice, but it's confined to text
.) For the asking price, I'd say it's worth it if you intend to go for all the routes and 100% complete the game. However, if you only want to pursue one or two routes, then I'd suggest holding off for a sale. Regardless, I enjoyed both working on and playing Cat's Princess, and I hope that the developer will develop more visual novels and release them on Steam in the future. ^^
The Introverted Gamer and Otome Rakuen team up to give readers highly detailed, thorough reviews of hot romance games.
Cat's Princess is a very short but cute visual novel. It took me a bit more than 2h to complete every ending (5 different Routes (3M, 1F, 1Cat)). For someone who is not a fast reader, it might take around 3-4hours. Even though Cat's Princess it has some comedic moments, I can not recommend the game - as it feels more like a fan fiction or student project. Even the cat's cannot save it for me. Please keep in mind, I only talk about the English version. Hence, the writing might be different in another language. Pro: - Background Art is lovely - Cats - Some comedic moments - Short epilogues Neutral: - Choices do matter - Rough Guide is in the game files (It's really rough since not all answers are listed but its precise enough to get the endings) Con: - Not everything is translated into English, for example the whole Epilogue for Rion is in a different language. - Rushed. But that is to be expected, 5 Routes + Bad Endings = 2-3h - Writing feels more suited for a normal story (book) instead of the visual novel kind. I cannot recommend the game, since the overall plot seems promising and funny but implementation of the idea is rushed. Once the characters are introduced, the game is already over. The idea itself had more potential.
Cat's Princess is a shorter otome/visual novel game where you play as Leah, the count's daughter, turned into a cat by an evil witch! You go on an adventure to find wise Rhjau to help her turn back to human and on the way you find amazing friends and even love. The game is actually pretty fun and cute, the story isn't something grand, but it's nice and well written enough to be enjoyable for sure! I enjoyed it so much in fact that I made a guide for it as well, which I sometimes do for games that I feel like could benefit from them! The artstyle is pretty great, I think the game's style shines through from the background art especially, but with the sprite arts there could have been some improvements, at least in my opinion. The CGs are also very lovely, but again, I feel like the character designs and the big eyed anime design of them could have been better. The cats were absolutely fantastically drawn though, and I think that is one of the best parts of this game. So as my final thoughts, if you enjoy otome games and stories about cats, I can definitely recommend this game, even at full price. Great game.
I enjoyed the game! + If you like romantic fluff stories without any deep meaning then you might like this game. + If you're looking for a cute and simple read just for fun, then I recommend it! I liked it and thought it was a pleasant experience.
