About
Cats & Dice is a dice-building roguelike all about getting the right synergies to pull off crazy combos and attain as high a score as you possibly can.
The Cats (maneki-neko) are the mainstay of the game. Every Cat has its own passive ability that can affect how you approach a run. All Cats generate a dice unique to them at the start of each round (for instance there's a Cat that will create a dice with only four on all sides). There is no additional drawing of dice from your deck or the like. These dice are then played to get a score. Reach the target score and you'll win the round.
There are various Items that can be equipped onto the Cats you own. These Items can add onto or even alter your Cat's passive abilities. Some grant additional effects onto the Cat's dice and allow you to customize it to your liking. These Items are not permanently attached to your Cats, so feel free to experiment and change your strategy.

The dice play as important a role as your Cats. You can get bonus points out of specific combination of dice. There's a number of rerolls per round you can use to reroll specific dice until you attain the desired outcome. Some dice can also have special effects that help in various ways, from adding scoring multiplier to gaining more rerolls.

Over 90 Cats and 150 items, each with their own distinct ability that could potentially change how you approach a run.
A Boon/Bane system (akin to Boss fights) where you'll have to weigh the pros and cons of your selection.
More than 15 bonuses (unique dice combinations) that can further boost your score.
Tickets that will permanently aid your run, provided you can afford them.
More to come during early access!
Each stage of the game will ask for an increasingly higher score in order to win. Make it pass the final hurdle and you'll unlock endless mode where you can truly see how far your build can go.
The combination of Cats' passive abilities, dice effects, Items' effects and other game-changing choices you'd have to make during the course of a run makes for a deep roguelike experience with endless possibilities.

cat make money go meow
A Balatro inspired dicebuilding roguelike that ramps up the decision-making of Balatro to 100. This is a complex game but is filled with interesting ideas and mechanics! https://youtu.be/HjlCPNKst08
Meow (Amazing)
太难啦,我最多打到普通难度十几关就过不去了,得分要求上涨的太快了,不管怎么拿猫都跟不上
this is my favorite game i told all my friends to buy it and they're buying it
想法不错,不过这东西借鉴的小丑牌平衡就很差,这个更是一坨
All you need to know is that it's like Baltoro but with Cats and Dice and it has very good and quite a few combinations for how small the game is so far. It also has different types of dice that combine with the cats, mutlipliers, things that add to your score, things that add to your multiplier, and it's pretty hard compared to Baltoro which is a good thing. I don't see why people are complaining. It's like if I complained about Bingle, that games extremely hard to understand but that's literally the whole point of the game. This is easier to understand, but some of the people make it sound like rocket science, im not sure why. I give it a 10 out of 10 and their will only be more cats from here!
Cats & Dice, developed and published by Yongjustyong, is a charming and strategic roguelike that manages to blend whimsical aesthetics with surprisingly deep dice-based mechanics. It takes the familiar thrill of roguelite deck-builders and fuses it with dice rolling, transforming luck into a tactical playground. At first glance, its premise seems simple—you collect cats, customize dice, and chase high scores—but within minutes it reveals a layered system of risk and reward that constantly tempts players to push for just one more roll. It’s a game that looks cute enough to disarm you, but beneath its soft exterior lies an addictive cycle of planning, probability management, and the pursuit of perfect synergy. Each run in Cats & Dice begins with the selection of several cat statues, each representing a unique ability or modifier. These cats determine your starting dice and the way your rolls will interact with various systems. As the game progresses, you acquire items that alter your dice faces, manipulate rerolls, or trigger chain effects when certain numbers or symbols align. What sets the game apart from other dice roguelikes is the flexibility of its buildcrafting. You’re not simply at the mercy of random rolls; instead, you actively shape your odds by tinkering with dice combinations, cat pairings, and special bonuses. Every cat you choose influences the kind of strategy you’ll employ—some reward consistency and safe play, while others thrive on chaos and high-stakes risk. The interplay between these systems creates a satisfying balance of control and uncertainty that defines the entire experience. The core gameplay revolves around chasing increasingly challenging target scores across multiple rounds. You roll your dice, plan your moves, and attempt to hit the required thresholds while juggling limited rerolls and resources. Each round becomes a puzzle in itself—how to extract maximum value from your current setup while preparing for the next stage. The scoring system encourages experimentation; sometimes it’s better to take a small, consistent gain, while other times gambling on a risky combination can yield massive payoffs. This constant weighing of options creates a satisfying tension that mirrors the best aspects of roguelike design. Even in failure, the game rewards curiosity, prompting you to try new cat combinations and item synergies on your next attempt. What begins as a lighthearted exercise in rolling dice quickly transforms into an engrossing tactical challenge. Visually, Cats & Dice is as endearing as it is efficient. The pixel-art presentation bursts with color and personality, from the animated cat statues to the clean, readable dice designs. Every aspect of the interface feels purpose-built for clarity, ensuring that players can easily track bonuses, face values, and modifiers without getting overwhelmed. The minimalist backgrounds help focus attention on the dice and cats, which are the real stars of the show. The charm of the presentation complements the game’s strategic depth perfectly—its visual softness makes its mathematical underpinnings feel approachable, even to those who aren’t normally drawn to number-driven games. The soundtrack matches the atmosphere, delivering upbeat, catchy tunes that keep the pace energetic without becoming intrusive. Together, the visuals and audio create a cozy but engaging environment that makes each run feel rewarding, even during moments of defeat. As with most roguelike systems, variety and progression play a crucial role in maintaining interest. Over time, you unlock more cats, dice patterns, and items, expanding your tactical options with every playthrough. Early Access players have already praised the range of possibilities available, with over ninety cats and a hundred and fifty items to experiment with. The sheer number of combinations encourages creative play and ensures that no two runs feel exactly the same. One session might focus on maximizing rerolls and critical bonuses, while another might build a snowballing combo engine that multiplies points exponentially. This flexibility keeps the experience fresh and gives a strong sense of discovery, as players are constantly uncovering new synergies that change how they approach the game’s challenges. That said, Cats & Dice is still in Early Access, and its current form reflects both promise and limitation. The foundation is solid—the mechanics are satisfying, the systems are smartly designed, and the overall pacing hits the sweet spot between casual and cerebral—but some aspects remain underdeveloped. The progression structure can occasionally feel repetitive once you’ve explored a large portion of the available cats and items, and the score-based runs, while addicting, may lack narrative or long-term goals for players who crave deeper motivation. Some minor balancing issues are also apparent, as certain cats and items offer significantly higher utility than others. Yet these shortcomings feel more like growing pains than fundamental flaws, and the developer’s roadmap suggests an active commitment to expanding content and refining balance over time. Despite these imperfections, Cats & Dice already succeeds in what it sets out to do: create a system where luck becomes strategy and strategy becomes art. Every roll of the dice feels meaningful because of how much control the player has over shaping their outcomes. The combination of charming presentation, tight mechanics, and emergent depth makes it a rare find among indie roguelikes. It’s the kind of game that invites both casual players, who will be drawn to its aesthetic and simplicity, and hardcore strategists, who will stay for the intricate optimization possibilities hidden beneath the surface. Few games manage to make rolling dice this satisfying or intellectually engaging, and even fewer do it while maintaining such a whimsical tone. Cats & Dice is, at its heart, a love letter to the thrill of chance and the satisfaction of mastery. It’s a reminder that even simple mechanics can yield rich, complex experiences when executed with thought and passion. Yongjustyong has created a game that feels cozy yet challenging, playful yet precise, and it’s easy to lose track of time chasing just one more roll. While it still has room to grow, its foundation is strong enough to suggest a bright future ahead. Whether you’re a fan of roguelikes, deck-builders, or just cats in general, Cats & Dice is an unexpectedly delightful gem that proves strategy and charm can coexist—and that luck, when guided by the right hands, can be just as powerful as skill. This is a really fun take on the Balatro formula! What is there right now is fun and there is room for improvement but for the current asking price of $8 you get your moneys worth I feel. Works great on Steamdeck just missing button prompts
I Adore this game!!!! Played the demo and was itching for more playtime, bought the early access on day one. I waited to give my opinion so I could fully digest my feelings on the state of the game as it is right now. Off the bat, here are the good things: ITS FUN! Like, SO fun. This game was inspired by Balatro, and while the influence is clear- in its capturing of that casual yet edge-of-your-seat vibe- Cats & Dice easily stands on its own in this sphere. I am such a huge fan of the added elements of cat & dice augmentation. It makes runs wholly unique and synergies very interesting to calculate. (Its also got me brushing up way more on my math skills which I appreciate as an added element) Its also adorable! The art is clever and (while it may be temporary) the updated soundtrack in the early access release is such a pleasing and upbeat experience that complements exactly how this game should make you feel. I absolutely cannot wait for the full release! Now, as it is early access, there are a few things that I think could be improved. There are some optimization things, even on my higher end setup the game can freeze sometimes. The Win/earnings screen for each round feels a bit long; it might benefit from a "click to skip" or game speed options. However, my biggest gripe with the game is that in its current state it doesn't advertise the game's best features in a clear way. From my perspective I think Instructions on how the cat's items actually effect play is a bit unclear at first- each description reads "Y-item: on equip dice face [X] gains [Z]" and I took this to mean All X dice on the table get such an upgrade, which led to a lot of confusion and many game losses when it didn't actually work this way; the items affect only the Cats special die (and its faces) in the pool, so I feel that if the rule were written as " cat's dice face gains Z" it would be easier to understand up front. Regardless, these are small quality of life improvements and not necessary to still enjoy the game. It just took a moment for the game to finally click, and when it did, it was incredible. HIGHLY recommend everyone jump on it while its in early access to support for the full release.
