A game with promise that's really imbalanced. This game has such potential to be a classic couch co-op, but the punitively short playtime on each island makes it a frustrating slog instead of diverting fun. The gameplay, for the most part, is as follows: on each island, the players must find and collect black sacks containing pieces of the boat to build to escape when the water level permanently floods the level, all while collecting treasure from the land. This creates an interesting combination of needing to cooperate to assemble the boat while simultaneously working to have the most treasure as an individual player. There are also mechanics where you can steal coins from other players and collect the loot they drop when they die from the many inevitable drownings. Where the problem arises is how brief the window is between the start of the level and the final rising of the tide. I'd say fully 50-60% of the time, even when all four of us were trying to find sacks to assemble the boat straight from the start, we still managed to not make it in time, causing us all to drown and ending the progression of islands. Challenge is good, but not at the expense of fun. The playtime between the start of the level and the ending water line rising up needs to be increased by at least 20-30%, or the number of sacks needed to assemble the boats needs to be reduced. As of now, my team of four got tired of this after a handful of rounds because of how unfair the time limit felt in comparison to the accomplishments needed to successfully finish the level. If the game were better balanced, I could highly recommend it as a diverting and somewhat unique co-op party game.
I was pleasantly surprised by how fun this game can be. It's not the kind of thing I usually play, but its core gameplay is enjoyable. The artstyle is also very nice! I invited friends over on two occasions and we had a lot of fun each time. The game is easy to fire-up - simply plug in your controllers, go through a short tutorial, and start exploring the islands. It's definitely something I will play again the next time I have someone over, which is not something that I can say about another local CO-OP indie I checked out last week. This game balances team-play and competitiveness beautifully. One moment you're working together to complete your boat, the other you're trying to sabotage your team to steal their treasure (walking around with a diamond can be very dangerous). Reactions on the couch are also quite hilarious. We used beanboozled candies to "punish" the lowest scoring player.... great incentive! Another rule was that we all had to eat a candy if we lost the level! Despite the fact that the game is still unpolished, I think it has a lot of potential... and I really hope the dev will continue to update it. Pros: - Great party game for kids and adults alike, - Solid core gameplay, which can be improved, but is still great for an early access game - The isometric perspective is perfect for this kind of game. I also like the overall aesthetic of the game. - Very interesting levels, each with its unique obstacle or mechanic (e.g. elevators, boulders, bridges, gliding rope, etc.) - Semi CO-OP is well balanced - Scores are hidden until the end of the level. - Funny achievements Cons: - local CO-OP -> this is both a good and bad thing. It's a great game to play together with friends, but getting together can be difficult, and playing the game alone really isn't fun. I would recommend introducing some AI / bots. Online mode may not be that helpful, since the servers would not be that populated. - If you're friends are douchebags, they can loot the entire level and not help with building a ship. That's all fine and dandy, but I think team-players, or people who contribute most to the building of the ship, should be rewarded in some way. - BE CAREFUL: If you fail one island in an adventure, you fail the entire adventure and have to start over. Solid game overall, with a decent price tag. I recommend checking it out.
I liked the premise of the game - but it was simply too dull. You need to carry bags to a boat to fix it - which gives you no benefits except you can only win if everyone makes the boat. The water keeps going up and down, so you need to wait around while the water is high until you can get to the lower levels with things on. While trying to get the bags you need to pick up coins and bash other players so they lose everything they collected. I liked the selection screen where it's easy to make up team combinations. I also like how mini buttons appear near the character when you are near something you can interact with to remind you the right button to push. I played a 4-player game, and we also played Hidden in Plain Sight and Ultimate Chicken Horse. Unfortunately this game seemed disliked by most. It was slow and frustrating, even though we were playing the small map. I suppose comparable would be to take Overcooked - slow it down / keep stuck on those maps where you have to wait half the time to be able to cross the kitchen - and ask players to randomly sabotage each other while cooking. My suggestions for improvement are: - Give people separate build points for making the boat, but some other task to do such as dragging logs and chopping them etc. a bit like Overcooked cooking tasks. Not just carry a bag to the boat. - People's coins can't be stolen or dropped - Grab bits of people's hair and clothes for harasser points. Victims looks can deteriorate as their get beaten up. But a limit to how often they can be 'farmed' (when they are clearly beaten and limping at slower speed they don't give points, and need to recover a bit first before being hit again) At the end of the game people see their point totals in the three different areas and an overall winner declared. Finally - less time spent waiting for water levels to recede.
Full disclosure, I contributed Design work and work on some maps to the game. That being said...Getting to 100% was fun, relaxing. Approximate amount of time to 100%: 20 Hours ~ Estimated achievement difficulty: 2/10 in co-op 5/10 solo Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 250 raids. Is there a good guide available: Two on Steam for the secret achievements, Rest don't need a guide Multiplayer achievements: Yes (but you can spawn players on the same PC by using controllers and keyboard) Missable achievements: No. Grinding Achievements: Yes (250 raids, 1517 Deaths.. ) DLC-Only achievements: No. Time-gated achievements: No. RNG-achievements: Minimal (Score a full collection of 5 different idols) Does difficulty affect achievements: No. Unobtainable/glitched achievements: No. I found the game interesting for a lot of different reasons than most people will. I played it solo only spawning other players for the achievements and it became a challenge of how much can I collect while still building the boat since there's nobody there to bail me out. About half the achievements can be obtained in the first hour, the others (like the ones above, Number of Raids and Raids) require a bit of a grind on solo. If you however choose to play this with friends they will likely come naturally.
Very fun party game! Suitable for smaller children as well, which is something rare on steam.
I'm always, like: "Ok, just a few rides, let's get some coins, build the boat and all be saved - it's more important to live than to win, right?", but a few moments later, chaos ensues: push frienemies, try to steal their diamonds, try building the boat, otherwise all your bounty will be lost, try to block them to not enter the boat themselves a.s.o. Really fun, it brings out your spirit of competitiveness and kindness: which one will prevail?
Solid good party game. The level design and gameplay mechanics are sure to get you and your group laughing, shouting and calling for a rematch to see who'll come on top next time. It's great for kids of all ages ;)
Great party game. Played with friends and had some backstabbing moments. In the end, no one felt left behind.
At last I had time to try it out with my girlfriend. It was really fun, we enjoyed ourselves building the boat while pushing each other in the water like the a**holes that we are. I've played it solo as well and it was quite challenging. It was a different kind of "fun". More of a "let's see how much I can" do type of thing. Keep up the good work !
