Bold Catechumen, This action to play the hit(?) 2000 Christian FPS 'Catechumen' and defy The Evil One is not without risk. His demons have stolen frames from the Genesis3D Engine. If your heart be set upon action -- or morbid curiosity -- then take this sick ass Sword of the Spirit that shoots energy bolts for only $9.99. Remember, confrontation is often best avoided, even though there are no actual stealth mechanics in this game. Father, Son, and Spirit. This game defined my adolescence. Growing up in one of those households where Pokemon was considered satanic, it's ironic that this game all about shooting literal demons with literal swords was allowed. What we have here is a debut game from a fledgling studio, born as their passion project, and conceived in the wedlock of late 90s video game violence paranoia and the desire to still give the Christian kiddies a good scare. While making a moderate splash in the Christian community, it never had a real shot at mainstream success. It did get a small cult following (of which I am ardently a part of), but I feared this would always be abandonware. Make no mistake, this game is jank. Movement borders on ludicrous speeds even though the frame rate chugs, enemies stutter around like they're auditioning for Porky Pig, the level design is at best as cogent as this review. But guess what? It feels like I'm back playing on my old Gateway laptop running Windows XP and a half dozen viruses. To me, it's always felt like this. When trying to run Catechumen off of the disc on modern hardware, you learn that unfortunately so much of the game and engine were tied to the frame rate, which caused everything to run at warp speed. So part of me wonders if the low FPS on the Steam release was to mitigate that. But the game itself is quite special, although in the amateurish sort of way. In some ways, I would call this my first horror game. The visual and sound design for the demons, coupled with their unnaturally jerky movements, always got under my skin. I only know one other person who played this game back in the day. He has an excellent story describing how his initial encounter with a hell hound one of his first jump scares in gaming. We're still not friends to this day! 10/10
"The lousy food in the garrison is giving me gas."
Even Though The Game is not that Good and received bad reviews by Critics back in the early years of gaming, its not as bad as the Evangelical Protestant RTS Game Left Behind Eternal Forces Released in 2006 and never got released on Digital Purchase Download Except you can Play it for free on sites like Abandonware and OldGamesDownload. That Game is Way Worse Than Catechumen and Ominus Horizons a Paladin's Calling. If You're a Catholic I Recemmend this game compared to this Ominus Horizons a Paladin's Calling. Deus Vult! Matthew 16:18-19 18 And I tell you, you are Peter,[a] and on this rock[b] I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” See that you all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as you would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church. It is not lawful without the bishop either to baptize or to celebrate a love-feast; but whatsoever he shall approve of, that is also pleasing to God, so that everything that is done may be secure and valid. -The Epistle of Ignatius to the Smyrnaeans Chapter 8
I'm sorry, but this is one of the worst FPS games I have ever played. There are so many flaws that honestly I can't recommend it to anyone. Besides the bugs, that sometimes are almost game-breaking, here I have found one of the most evident examples of artificial difficulty, of a game that is cruel just for the sake of being cruel. Bullet-sponge enemies in extremely tight rooms, etremely scarce ammo and health pickups, enemies that can hit you through walls, strong monsters that wait for you at the top of ladders and maul you to death before you even get the possibility to defend yourself... and these are just a few examples. What many devs do not understand is that if you expect much from the player, than the player has all the rights to expect much from you. Here we have huge design issues that can't absolutely compensate the cheap cruelty. A pity, because the atmosphere, the level design and the aesthetics are really cool. There's huge potential here, but many aspects need to be revisited. Cheers guys!
Made Romans prey to me before they were shot up to heaven. Beat that Doom.
Audjutorium + nostrum in nomine Domini. Qui fecit caelum et terrram. This is one of the finest pieces of work to come out of the early 2000's PC gaming era. It plays as janky and wonky as it looks but I would be a liar and fraud if I didn't say it was beyond entertaining. From the obscure commentary from Roman soldiers and infinite wisdom from the Archangels, there is not a single dull moment throughout the adventure. This game is absolutely jam packed with pagan converting, demon slaying, puzzle solving fun. I remember getting this as a kid and spending countless hours on trying to 100% it. Do not pass this one by. GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO!!!!
this port does a weird thing where it kinda just locks me into the game, like I cant tab out. I have to like fully shut down the game to leave it. otherwise, yeah it's a pretty alright christian shooter. it's basically doom 3 if it was good.
Had a boxed copy of this we got from a Christian book store a decade ago. Ran it on a Toshiba Satellite, game ran great on it. Completed it long ago and this game was janky and hard but man was it cool for me at least. Was thinking about it again and googled it and saw a Steam link and thought that what the heck. Instant buy for me, this game kicked ass. Tried downloads before and unlocked framerate caused issues. The Steam release here locks the framerate to 30 so that bandages that problem, not fixing it. Hopefully some fixes come out of this making some money again, though I doubt it.
gra zawiera wiele charakterystycznych elementów dla gier chrześcijańskich takie jak walka z pomiotami szatana lub klękanie do miecza, moja ulubiona postać to prawdziwie męski wielki Archanioł Burneika-Pudzianowski z wyjеbаnymi barami, polecam hell yeah
