About
Catamyst is an action roguelike that requires players to craft potions and defeat waves of molecular amalgamations. You'll be combining real-world chemistry with magical potions to destroy the monstrosities that have emerged.
Willow is a Cat Witch who lives comfortably in the woods as its guardian.
Recently, Amalgamations made of Chemical Elements and magical Vis have been spawning in nature and disrupting the ecosystem. The problem has been tracked back to a single source: A highly magical Obelisk that has emerged in the forest clearing.
Willow must use their prowess as a forest guardian to brew potions, collect molecules and imbue Vis into powerful enchantments to fight back these monstrosities.
Willow has access to a vast amount of potions at their disposal. Potions are thrown at groups of enemies and each potion has a unique characteristic.
Potions are crafted using Molecules collected from defeated amalgamations. These potion recipes are based on real-world chemical processes/compounds, with affects to match!
Potions level up as you defeat enemies, allowing you to harness unique builds and strategise the optimal ways to overcome the trials.
Master 25+ unique potions with recipes made from 7 different Molecule types.

Destroying the Obelisk means siphoning all of its magical Vis. The Obelisk can fight back and will create increasingly stronger amalgamations to stop Willow in their tracks. However, Willow can use this siphoned Vis to their advantage - by creating powerful Enchantments.
Enchantments are upgrades to Willow that can make them significantly more powerful. Enchantments can be attuned reguarly, whilst also spending Vis collected throughout the waves. Powerful Enchantments can drastically change how the game is played.
Catamyst offers 75+ unique enchantments, across 4 rarities, to add a vast amount of variety across runs.

Catalysts are powerful augments that you can attach to your potion, granting it new abilities and power.
Both Catalysts and Potions can each have unique effects that work in synergy with one another. It's important to strategise which Potion/Catalyst combinations are best!
There are 25+ different Catalysts that you can encounter. This means over 500+ unique combinations.

The use of potions really makes this game unique! The game forces you to use your currency carefully but that makes it even more enjoyable! Mine only qualm is that I encountered a bug which stopped me from making any further potions, and so I had to rely on the standard potion until I inevitably died. Other than that, this is a great indie game!
Great game, would highly recommend giving this a try if you enjoy shoot 'em up games!

Catalyst is an indie rogue-like twin-stick shooter with an intriguing focus on chemistry and alchemy. Much like similar twin-stick shooters, from Smash TV to 20 Minutes Till Dawn, the objective of this game is to survive wave after wave of enemies by shooting them down whilst, at the same time, avoiding their attacks. At the start of each run, you begin with a basic "Vis" potion with infinite ammo to throw at enemies. As you defeat various enemies and gather ingredients (e.g. carbon, hydrogen, gold, etc.), you can use said resources to craft new potions and ammo. You can also spend gathered gold and "Vis" to purchase magic scrolls, charms and talismans to improve your odds of survival. This game features a remarkably flexible crafting system which allows you to easily use and balance your resources between waves on a single run. For example, you can spend gathered ingredients to heal yourself or accumulate "Vis" to spend on new scrolls, potions and charms. So far, my favourite aspects of this game are its alchemy-based themes and its soundtrack composed by Cochu, a video game music remixer whom is best known for her Splatoon music mashups. This game's electronic drum-and-bass soundtrack is delightfully atmospheric and intensifies as you progress through your run. Alas, this game is far from perfect. In my experience, its biggest weakness is a game-breaking bug which prevents me from reloading potions. There was one time when I was reloading before the end of a wave. But, as soon as said wave ended, the reload timer had frozen and I became unable to reload special potions until the run was over. If anything, this encouraged me to attempt a Vis-only run in which I was ultimately overrun by ravenous enemies halfway through. All in all, if you're looking for a simple and quirky rogue-like twin-stick shooter with intuitive crafting and alchemic fantasy vibes, Catamyst may be the game for you.
I'm usually not much of a roguelike nerd but I found Catamyst to be quite addictive ! Runs are pretty short and the whole potion mechanic is very interesting, its fun to explore and see what kinda builds you can get Also the entirety of the soundtrack goes incredibly hard !!!
havent played a LOT of the game but its a really fun and i enjoyed the run i did a lot even when im not a fan of this genre of games. 100% a game to buy especially full price

Catamyst is a fun roguelike with lovely art and music. The real heart of it are the potions, their effects and how you upgrade them. It's quite addictive to test out different combinations and level up the potions. Plays nice on steamdeck as well.
